Is there any reason the restless dead warband cannot hide a Cathayan merchant or an imperial assassin (from the 2002 annual).  I thought they could not but I cannot find any reason to prohibit it.

Thank you!

The restless Dead are from Border-town Burning does not include any restriction for hiring sell-swords So they can hire them like any warband.

The imperial Assassin can be hired:Any warband except Witch Hunters, Sisters  of  Sigmar,  Orcs  &  Goblins  or  Skaven  may hire the Assassin.

Any  warband which  includes  Humans or  Dwarfs  may  hire  a  Cathayan  Merchant,  including
Battle Monks of Cathay. For first look you could think that as the necromancer is a human it is a valid option. But as the majority of the warband are undead it looks a bit cheesy (imho). I say if the warband contains mainly human is better worded in this case.

Okay great! Thank you for the response. The player might be hiring the assassin to get the merchant, and even if the restless dead are not themselves human, the assassin is, so I d not see a prohibition.

Thank you!!

LOL that's a pretty convenient interpretation. If you read arab merchant description it says only good aligned warbands may hire him, and I think it may be used as reference for the cathayan merchant.

I personally would apply to restless dead the same restrictions regular undead warband has with hired swords, so I would allow assassin but no merchant. But it's up to your gaming pals.

Wo Wo Wo! Stop for one moment.
The merchant is hired by the warband and not by the assassin. As merchants tends to do their business with ordinary humans a bunch of undead, zombie and skeleton not seems to be promising even if you add to the mix an shadowy looking assassin who could -in another situation- cut his guts out "just for business".

Also to help is suggesting hiring a grive digger and/or an old prospector they really do not mind undeads and can come in handy in combat situations.

Also the player could start hoarding money to buy/build a Bone Goliath.
