Hey Everyone,

First post here as promised in my introduction.

Here are a few pictures of my first complete Mordheim ruin.

It's supposed to be a modestly sized house that would have been inhabited by a fairly wealthy merchant. It was designed with play in mind but I also wanted to make it pretty detailed. In terms of technique I basically imagined how I would actually build a real house and did that but on a somewhat smaller scale! Smile

Materials wise it's pretty much all scratch built from balsa and foam board, apart from the lowest floor which is a sawn-off OOP Warhammer Fortress tower.

So here it is!

Isometric view I think gives the best feel of the whole piece:

Here are side on shots from back, front and sides to give you a full view of the playing space:

I hope you like it, any feedback and/or questions would be gratefully received! Let me know if you'd like any more photos.

Also here's a pic of some barricades just for a bonus:

That's real nice. I'm curious how you made the shingles, did you cut them out individually or are they overlapping strips with a row of tiles cut into each? Oh, and what did you cover the underside of the shingles with?

Thanks so much for the flood of positive comments guys, really encouraging. I'll get a couple more pictures up when I have time (this week's been a bit full).

Theomar: thanks so much, your work is a constant inspiration!

Vagabond: thanks, I love your use of blue foam, i'm going to have to pick some up for my next build!

Minion: I opted for the laborious task of cutting each individual tile. To be honest for this building it didn't take TOooOoo long as most of the roof has been destroyed (the decision to do this was in no small part due to how long I realised it would have taken to do more).

The tiles are made of plasticard, this is really nice to use as you can chip off the edges to get a bevelled look. Underneath is just parcel paper, I layered it over the rafters first then glued the tiles to it one by one from the bottom up. For me this is the best way to get the really rickety, uneven Mordheim feel. Also makes it easer to do holes and missing tiles and things.

Hope that's helpful!

Dougie

I see. Using parcel paper as backing for the roof was very clever, the texture looks great. I've never heard about that trick before.

Thanks for the kind words guys. Here are a couple more photos with some minis for scale and to show playability etc!

Here's some unaware Ostlanders and Zombies:

And here's a big Ostlander/Zombie Rumble!

apologies for the rubbish bases on the Ostlanders, I'm still working out what to do with them. Any suggestions definitely welcome!

I'm also going to post a WIP of a little chapel yard now too so please head over to the WIP section and let me know what you think.

Thanks

Dougie.

Nothing makes a piece of scenery look FANTASTIC like some BEAUTIFUL miniatures occupying the piece...the reverse is also true. GREAT WORK all around.   thumbsup

I have a lot of examples of my bases in my Gangs of Mordheim thread here in Painting & Modeling. If you see any you like, I'd be delighted to tell you how I did them.   What a Face

Thanks so much for the kind words guys, yeah I'll keep posting as I go on.

I've been pretty busy with work recently so I've only really made a little progress on my Ostlanders but I'll be posting them soon!

a very nice ruin. I like the details that you added to the piece by placing lots of nice bits around the ground floor.

Go on, make more ruins!

OK, as told - very nice job!

But, imho, the ruin have a big disadvantage - the durability...
Terrains I made are designed for a local gaming shop/club, and there are many others skirmish gamers (f.ex. Malifaux..) using the terrain... And I try to prevent "unwished" damages...
