WELCOME BACK! The Squigs are SPLENDID looking Little Whatevers & the Orcs are coming along WONDERFULLY. OUTSTANDING WORK! thumbsup
Don't look at the clock if you are having fun. The longer it takes the more entertainment value you get for the cost of the miniature. Folks admire nice paint jobs, not time records. clown

Welcome back! The squigs are up to your usual standard. Interested to see where the Shaman ends up.

Grand work on the squigs, & those heroes are coming on nicely -- judging by the finished products, they're going to look good!

I'm with DN on time -- take the time you need, no more & no less. If you watch the clock it's only likely to make you bungle those delicate final stages. If you want to get your speed up for painting a warband, painting henchmen as groups is often faster than doing each individually, &, if you can, avoid using more time-consuming techniques on henchmen. Washes & drybrushes get a group painted much quicker than careful highlighting. But heroes -- including the shaman -- deserve your proper time.

Good advice all round... I've dropped somewhat my obsession on counting the clock. Switched my focus to finishing up a particular area during a paint session e.g. getting the staff done during a sitting.

Here are some more updates on the Sharman:

Some observations - extreme highlighting / edging seems to work well. If it ends up being too much a few thinned layers helps masks the problem and smooth out the issue. I found that it does speed up the blending process i.e. go hard then taper back. Works well especially in smaller areas like the wrappings around the hand do don't be afraid to go all the way to white in terms of highlighting.

So far pretty happy with the result. Will start working up the skin tones next and then detailing.

Hopefully will have in all wrapped up in the next few weeks.

Grand work! The edge highlights look great, especially on the worn fabric you'd expect to find on an orc. That's work you can be proud of.

Another grunt ready to base!

Took a few shortcuts in really only focusing on certain areas to detail - mostly the face and skin.

Also tried to zenithal lighting approach which i found does help you mask out the areas you don't want to / can't be bothered painting.

That makes 12 orcs in total... still 8 more to go to max out the warband... I am never playing another horde warband again!

I like the way the green blends. Cool red coloring on the clothes, too.

Those shortcuts don't seem to have done too much harm -- the green guy looks good to me.

Focussing on the face & skin is a good move. The face is likely to be a focal point on any model, as well as the most expressive part, so it's worth your efforts. & skin generally is likely to be paler & stand out, so it's worth doing well -- plus, hands are usually quite easy to do, because they're heavily sculpted. So I fairly often find that a drybrush or wash & drybrush will be good enough for fabric, as long as the skin's well done.

& that greenskin's definitely well enough done for a grunt! Honestly, I think he's had more attention than some of my goblin heroes...

Love your painting, especially the shaman. He looks freaking awesome.

Your latest grunt looks great too.
