hi, I'm fairly new here, but I'm not that new to Mordheim. I have played Mordheim (obviously), Coreheim, and now my group is playing Wyrdwars.

I noticed that A bordercity burning was what was stickied here, is that what people on this forum mostly plays? I was hoping I could get some discussion going on what versions people like best and why.

I'll start by saying I like Wyrdwars because it is balanced, but with a lot of flavor, and the combat system seems better tailored to a game with fewer figures.

Well this is a Mordheim forum so that's kind of what we discuss. Questions about rules for Coreheim or Heroheim or whatever are rare and don't tend to draw replies.

Lately the 'Huge rulebook' or 'deds' version of Mordheim has caused a bit of debate because it comes up during google searches for Mordheim rules. I tend to think of it as a different game than Mordheim, but some folks don't.

Bordertown Burning is a Mordheim campaign setting as opposed to a separate version of the rules. (The authors belong to this forum and this forum is also the forum for that campaign setting). Other campaign settings include Lustria: Cities of Gold, Khemri: Land of the Dead, The Empire in Flames, The Nemesis Crown and a bunch of others.

My group plays mostly campaign settings as opposed adventuring in Mordheim the City of the Damned, but if you ask what rules we play, we would answer Mordheim rules (the 2005 version that GW used to host online) with a bunch of campaign rules for flavor.

We play mordheim, and to be honest rarely leave the ruins. The reason for that is we usually use my terrain, and I really like to build ruins.

We tried coreheim for one campaign. And hated it. It was mordehim for people who are to busy taking their games seriously to have any fun. In the end we found simply changing up the dual wield and armor a bit fixed all the problems we had with mordheim so why make any bigger changes than that.

We play Mordheim and don't have time or a desire to play other game systems like Coreheim and Wyrdwars that were inspired by Mordheim.

Border Town Burning contains additional rules for playing Mordheim in Cathay and surrounding areas. It is fan-made and just like other expansions like Lustria and Khemri which were published in Town Cryer.

There may not be any issues with the other game systems like Coreheim or Wyrdwars but the advantage of Mordheim is that there is a LOT of fan-made material that is compatible with the original, unchanged rules. Groups can play in Mordheim, Lustria, Khemri, Sartosa, Marienburg, Araby, Karak Azgul, Sylvania, Albion and other areas like the countryside in the Empire. Each of these expansions are based on the original, official rules but add extra rules to make the game play differently in each setting. Also, each expansion is compatible with each other so warbands, equipment, hired swords and other rules can be used outside of their original publication if desired.

Ordinary GW Mordheim. I'm trying out a varying amount of house rules in the different campaigns I'm playing in at the moment.

Mordheim, with a few extra bits and pieces (2002 Annual, Empire in Flames and warbands from Nemesis Crown, and Border Town Burning). Most recently we ran a Border Town Burning Campaign, but everything previous was set in the City of the Damned.

Seems like most people here play original Mordheim. With a few balancing tweaks like -1 to hit on dual wielding for instance makes it much more suitable, but I think that in the original skaven is just too good. (having lots of units is really great, and slings are OP and cheap)

I also thought Coreheim became too boring, and we planned on going back to Mordheim but with some tweaks when we found Wyrdwars, and we tried it out for one game. It turned out that it was (in our opinion) just better. The warbands were more balanced with each other, and more importantly every warband had a lot of different strategies that were viable, much because you can choose between more different units for each warband.

I play regular Mordheim with a vast amount of add ons little bits from here and there, we dont play with armour or off tweaks it works fine.
I hadn't heard of Wyrdwars till a few days ago I gave it a read and its not my cup of tea really.
They have changed a lot when it comes to the warbands it uses, but the original mordheim has way more content.
Balance in gameplay has heaps more to do with luck and strategy then warbands unless its the possessed they are just broken.

Personally I would go with Dwarfs or Shadow Warriors as my most broken warband vote. Everyone has a least favorite.

It's true. A lot of it has to do with length of the campaign and what other warbands are present.

I've found that to be an interesting thing of dynamics in a running campaign. Among the core warbands some of them have varying kinds of advantages against others but are at the same time disadvantaged against one or more of the others. Having a varied group of warbands active at the same time will make for the best experience.
