Hi all,

Our group of seven players are in the midst of an ongoing Mordheim campaign with warband ratings anywhere between around 100 to 220 (some are able to get in many games, and some are less frequent).

We regard this as a 'practice campaign', as it is the first half of us have played the game. My intention was for us to get into a map campaign, but I really like the casual nature of being able to pick up games against whomever is available, and there is not a 'gaming bottleneck' when someone is unable to get their scheduled game in that I have come across in other campaigns.

So my question is for more seasoned campaigners - how do you determine when to finish a campaign? Do you let it peter out? A set number of games? How do you determine a winner (if any), and how do you finish it?

My thoughts were to run each campaign over a certain time frame (perhaps quarterly), and then finish each with a multiplayer game including all of us. Your gains made during the campaign will give you the best advantage for the final game (unless you get ganged up on - so perhaps roll for scenario?). Whomever wins the final scenario can be said to have 'won'. If that even matters.

Very interested to hear your thoughts Smile

We run several types of campaigns.  The most popular is the just play games campaign where we just play games for a few months and then have a big game if possible as sort of an exclamation point to the campaign.  We tend to define the campaign by setting and duration.  So the Lustrian campaign might run for awhile and then the Empire in Flames campaign will start.

These campaigns last anywhere from 14 to 17 weeks or so.  The length of the campaign usually reflects how much fun the various players are having with their chosen warbands and if someone has become really powerful or not.

Another type I like to run is the journey or quest campaign.  Generally these campaigns happen in Lustria or Sartosa or Araby.  The Warbands all start in one place searching for clues to a lost something (tomb, city, treasure hoard). In Lustria the warbands will explore the jungles, search for paths to one of the temple cities.  Then they explore the temple city.  Anyway the idea is that the campaign travels from one location to another, with the final goal deciding a winner.

And then we try an BTB style Objective campaign once a year.  Generally everyone starts out trying to follow their objective, but usually by week 12 or so  only a couple of players can remember what their objective was (my lads are easily distracted).  As long as the rest of the group are having fun just playing games, those two will pursue their objective path to the end or if that proves impossible the person with the most Campaign Points wins.

I do not understand the appeal of map campaigns that actually USE the map.  I loathe showing up for game night and finding that I can't get a game because my opponent did not show up or needs to play Fred first because of turn sequence.  We tried that for a week or two several years ago with a Warhammer campaign.  Once was enough.

Our last campaign did not have objectives only locations, i was hoping one dominant warband would hold all locations but its not the case so we were discussing about after a certain game number (either 750 or 800) we stop allowing players to buy hired swords or warband members and if there are still warbands around at the next multiple of 50 or 100 all OOA's are counted as Dead, until there is only one. most of our players are now playing the new campaign but that is how im planning on ending my campaigns
