I was just wondering how it is that one would earn achievements on this forum. By this I mean that there is a field waiting to be filled with any number of fun achievement milestones, but I never see ANYONE that has anything there...

Just curious!

Just wait until places 1 (gold), 2 (silver) and 3 (bronze) of the first Boring Painting competition are announced. You will then see tiny medals on the winners.
