I have been a member of the site for quite a while. I have lurked more than anything else though.

A friend and I plan on starting a Mordheim campaign soon and would like to brainstorm some ideas about generating interest for the campaign. In the past, we get lots of people that say they are interested, but no one usually shows up to play. What works in your experience with this?

Thanks
Arli

That's a pretty common problem with a regular gaming group: it's kind of hard for everyone's schedules to match up! One thing that we have done in the past is if there is no one night where everyone can meet up, then have a schedule of sorts from the head of the campaign to let each player know who they're supposed to be up against for that week. As long as the games are played at some point during the week, they'll count, but the players need to let the campaign head know the outcome of the battle, and any losses of warband members, etc.

To avoid any player getting in more games than others, there should be a limit to how many games per week each player is allowed to participate in. This keeps some warbands from getting too powerful, but it also rewards regular players, and encourages everyone to get in their games for the week.

Just remember, enthusiasm for the game is contagious: if you are excited about the campaign, your players will be too.

We are going to use the btb supplement and I have to admit, after reading some of it today, it is very indepth. I am looking forward to using Ogres (Maneaters) and Monks (a favorite class of mine).

How about offering Prizes or Awards? Not just for Winning Warband, but for other things too. Have the players vote for “Best Player’s Attitude”, “Best Kill.”, “Most Heroic combat”, and my favorite “The Darwin Award”. That’s where a Warrior get’s taken out by an odd or humorous circumstance. Example: “A Vampire falling 4 stories after failing a diving charge to the third story landing, and going OOA or Dead.” If that was your opponent, you’d jump around the room pointing and laughing.

In the Obituaries section of this forum, I posted a story of an Elf Ranger I had that died on me because of a precarious fall of over 10 inches. I posthumously names him Wilhelm after the infamous movie scream. Reading about the "Darwin Award" reminded me of that battle vividly!

I started the LA Bunker Specialist Club with just 2 people playing Mordheim ... then it turned to 4, then 6, and now we have about 15 people playing in a campaign alternatively between Necromunda and Mordheim (in week 7 of Necromunda atm)

I find that your enthusiasm and your social skills in hyping the game up helps! I also had 6 warbands to introduce, but fortunately all of the players already had their models

Let them know this game is simpler, and the fun part is where you level up. Also remind them that they would only need 12 - 20 models (depending on warband) and they can use whatever models they already have for Fantasy.
If they run Chaos Marauders for fantasy, tell them there are the Norse warband and the Chaos Marauders warband, etc

I heard rumors that Bloodbowl is coming out again end of the year because of their 25th anniversary. Maybe if there's enough interest in Mordheim again, GW might re release it!

Good luck!

One thing I do to keep the campaign going, is I collect everyone's battle reports, pictures, and deaths, and I write a sort of "newspaper" called the Mordheim Post, in which I write silly little summaries of the battles, there is an obituary section, and I use the pics to spice it up.

My players really like it, and so do I.
