Decided to build a board with only 2 interested players (yes, yes, forever alone), figuring well if you build it they will come.... regardless, I'm having a blast with this table and the terrain.

Basically Hirst molds, realistic water/water effects for the river with modelling clay on the banks to prevent seepage, and styrofoam/modelling clay/dental plaster for the big crater.

Here is the album of pics so far....

LOOKIN' GOOD! The river/canal is INCREDIBLE with a level of pollution only Mordheim or Jersey City could produce. GREAT WORK!   thumbsup

Hi Noisy, I was thinking bout this, how would you recommend I weather? Browns? Greens? How? I'd appreciate any tips. This is my first terrain ever, and the painting is the hard part IMO.

How this sounds familiar to me... (sigh)

Anyway, I would go with more brown or black wash. Oh, and I like your building complexes a lot.

You could do a light dusting of green, and a wash of brown or black.

Splendid! Pics of the result?

Another thing that I'd recommend if (and only if) you want to get crazy (seriously, on an 8' board it'd be so much work) is to add grass and dirt/light rubble in patches around the streets. For the grass, the little Army Painter tufts are fantastic, and a few packs of varying colors spread over the board would be enough. For the dirt, sand spread about (some sparse gap-filling and a few more solid mounds) and secured with watered down white glue looks surprisingly good when simply hit with a blend of washes (I like to dot on brown, black, and green, then leave some unwashed as well). I haven't tried it on anything bigger than a 40mm base yet, but the principle should be the same. Here's an example of what it looks like on a base:

I'm with Noisy on this one; grass growing through the cracks is a splendid way of adding a colorful & a realistically ruined looked to an urban board. Army Painter makes some excellent scenery packs. Lately I've been using Silflor Mini Natur & Heki grasses. If you live in the US, you can get them & an abundance of other scenery thingies at Scenic Express:

I have linked to the grasses & ground cover page.   What a Face

Looking great, will be interesting to see where this goes!

Yes, grass tufts and perhaps some various washes in earthy colours and also green, would make it come to life.

Wonderful start! I definitely agree with the above sentiments, but even if you decide not to, you have one heck of a table, and I am sure they will come, now that you've built it.
