Thank you floedebolle!

And elde, while I agree with you that non-modular tables can look nicer, and have more freedom, the thing here is, I am leaving the buildings unglued, so I can use them on something else as well. Also, this is in every respect a process of learning. There is a very real chance that I may switch over at some point in time to 60cm by 60cm pieces which is still modular but with more room for placing buildings differently. At one point in time this will mean we can really mix and match.

But that is something which is far off. This really is just the start. Since I am working on a tabletop RPG game that is zone-based (think grid-based but with bigger grids), I have found this solution to work for my own project as well, so this style of board building will also be used to build environments such as farmlands and forests... and caves... and snowy landscapes...

Also, there is always that moment, that magical moment, when four people decide it is time to enter the dungeons of Warhammer Quest once more, and this stuff is absolutely perfect for building some cool looking grid-based dungeon tiles.

And once more I am getting way ahead of myself. Anyways, good luck with your own project, I hope it works out just as well as I feel mine is working out!

That really looks great! Flagstone/cobblestone adds so much character to an urban setting! Keep it up!

Actually, you can't see any of them, as the bandwidth has been exceeded... Seems this was one forum too much for my account... I may have to reconsider my posting habits... Not sure what that will mean... This is definitely THE place for my scenery log, but I do enjoy posting my miniatures on another forum, and the battle shots on my club forum...

Hmmm... Well... I don't have to decide NOW.

...or you could upgrade your Photo Bucket account & post your photos all over the forums. I plunked down the 29.99 a year last year. For moi, it's worth it even though I have a few issues with the "new & improved" format.   Suspect

From now on I am going to be a little more careful with uploading pics, so cropping images together seems like a good idea.

I haven't been sitting still. In fact, I have done lots. I will show you two pics of what I have been working on.

Top Tip: Aluminium foil is perfect for creating realistic looking rubble piles. Throw in some of your cut material and wooden sticks and whatnot as rubble, and throw sand over everything, and you have realistic looking rubble.

Here are parts of the street in action. The trees I personally really like. It adds character. I also made the streets narrower.

Wow man, you did a SUPERB job here, well done! I like the sinister gloomy look of you terrain board so far, makes me want to see more..... Twisted Evil
And what a great idea with the aliminum foil, great. So far i used aluminum as bulkwork for large supersculpey or other clay work, otherwise the parts would get to heavy, but this here rules!

Terrific looking Streets. And thanks for the rubble tip. I'm breaking my head on how to create convincing looking rubble. I'll give your tip a try.

PostSubject: Re: The Streets of Mordheim   Wed 6 Aug 2014 - 6:07

In this part, I created some very small streets to break it up a little. There is enough room for small houses, which makes sense, and the middle part will be reserved for our (once more repaired) Inn. Since it will be placed in corners of four different pieces, it will make the table a little less linear, straightforward.

I am not looking forward to creating more buildings. Creating the tiles is tedious work, but at least I know how to do it... Buildings is not my strong suit.

The street plan looks TERRIFIC...with a arise section or two to break up the level look it will be a SPLENDID gaming board.
Actually making the buildings is much easier than thinking about making the buildings. Once you start you be surprised how quickly & easily things move along. Keep up the FINE WORK!   thumbsup

Thank you guys. I guess you're right, I just need to start. I do want to build some higher sections, but I need to figure out how I am going to implement that in this modular system...

That photo with the knight statue, TTW house and the trees is one of the most evocative I've seen in miniatures. It looks like a real place. Is it possible for you to post more of these atmospheric pictures in your town?

PostSubject: Re: The Streets of Mordheim   Sun 10 Aug 2014 - 3:36

Thank you so much Joao.

The entire reason I build scenery and play games like Mordheim is for the pictures I can take, so for you to say it is one of the most evocative is a huge compliment for me, because it means I did my job better than I could expect.

I currently do not have the houses here, so I can't take pics, but I am very hard at working on my town pieces, so I am hoping that in a couple months' time, I can deliver some more of these atmospheric pictures, but fully painted.

In the meantime, DeafNala also inspired me to just get cracking with building some buildings, and I wanted to do something different, so here.

The idea is to have a house built on top of this, with a bridge-piece to another house on another tablepiece. How does that sound?

Thank you all so much for the motivational comments.

Yeah, I really like the idea and the look of that. Have you seen Theomar Pius' current project? This might give you further inspiration:
