PostSubject: BTBBTB; Border Town Burning By The Bay   BTBBTB; Border Town Burning By The Bay Icon_minitimeFri 3 Jan 2014 - 9:04

Hey guys, The group I play with and I have just started out new campaign fresh of the heels of our first BtB (which I narrowly won as Lure of Fortune Merchant Caravan). We loved the setting and the campaign system so much (and cannot wait for MiM), we found ourselves at a loss; we wanted to explore new locations but couldn't part with the Objective System. At first we tried adapting it to Lustroa but found that to complicated. In the end we went for a second round of BtB but with a twist! First we incorporated all the Marienburg Scenarios that had been released making them available for choosing in addition to the regular scenarios. After that we had decided sea faring would be a big part of or campaign with a lot of it to be set in a port town of Cathay (after the merchants took the win, we said Cathay had opened it ports to the world.) with that knowledge we then included a heap of Sartosa scenarios as well bringing our total normal scenario count to 30.

This is just the beginning of our changes, a lot of people complained last campaign about being left the the bottom of the Choose order after falling behind in CP so we incorporated a rotating choose order so from turn to turn to changes from; Highest CP picks first - descending order, to; Lowest CP picks first Ascending order. So far it seems to be working.

We let people choose whatever warbands as well as helped develop some new ones based of existing warbands.
Here's our warband list along with objectives;

Hobgoblin Wolf Boyz - Scourge if the Silk Road (a modded scourge of the realm that now hates Lure players)
Necrach Vampires - Humans Shall Learn ( modded damned shall burn that targets human warbands!)
Angels of Sigmar - Damned Shall Burn ( the angels are sisters that start with the "Wings" mutation, for extra gc of course)
Dark Elf Slavers - Silent Threat ( Same as normal Dark Elves but can get a Special Slaver Skill)
Arabian Slavers - Lure of Fortune
Norse Raiders - lure of Fortune
Maneaters - Celestial Protectorate
Sea Ghosts (Elves) - Celestial Protectorate
Ghost Pirates - Humans Shall Learn
Orc Boyz - Scourge of the Realm
Marauders - Scion of Chaos

There's a bunch of other stuff we've developed like custom Ships for the more Sea themed warbands and a few different random for the port town and a few other things.
Any way any questions and feed back is more than welcome!
And thanks to everyone who created all the original work we made this Frankenstein's monster from!

Sounds great. I'm jealous that I'm about an hour too far away to join in!  Sad

Anyway, I look forward to hearing more about how your campaign goes especially the additions and tweaks that you have made to the rules and objectives.  thumbsup

Just one question, you mention custom ships so will you have ship battles like VK using Warhammer AHOY! or some other rules?

Ha, that sounds totally awesome! It's great to see what people make with the rules and what direction they take it.

I hope adding all those scenarios works well for you. The original BTB scenarios were very carefully chosen so to offer variety on one hand as well as some tactical options on the other (like forcing an unprepared opponent to play the Avalanche scenario). Really curious so hear how this alll plays out and what synergies you might discover during the campaign.

Also, this made me laugh: "Ghost Pirates - Humans Shall Learn"  Very Happy

Thanks for the feedback guys! RL; toowoomba! So close but so far way man haha.
We use the boat rules laid out in Empire in Flames with some of the additions that VK put Sartosa (so Rafts, Rowboat, sloops and Sailboats) truth be told, I couldn't actually figure out the Warhammer Ahoy rules haha the custom boats were taken from the Idea for the Dread Ship in Sartosa, we designed a few more race exclusive ships you can get for a hefty price - Arabian slave ship (the more slaves in the hull can add to distance moved, if you apply the lash that is, but watch out they might expire/revolt!) Norse Longboat (to taken advantage of their +1S whilst rowing) Dark Elf Black Ark (kinda a mix between a Arabian slave ship and the Dwarf Chaos Engine to take advantage of their new found Slave abilities) We're also testing if the Ghost ship should be able to go on land haha, but when the driver loses a wound he may sever his connection with the ship and it disappears for the battle.

Cianty; all the original Scenarios are still there, especially the special scenarios, but I understand what you mean about tactical options, so far (4 rounds in) most players have used the new scenarios in some pretty exciting ways (I've been taken to both the Avalanche and the Pit of Blood to take away my Wolf Riding advantage) last campaign we suffered from too man wyrdatone hunts. But it's still early days, and I'm sure some cracks will show, as I said it's like a Frankenstien but made out of Duct Tape!

The Necrarch player made up Humans Shall Learn, as he didn't feel Scourge or Silent Threat Applied to their playstyle. I love the name haha some of their CP requirements are; Bait - +1 CP for each Chaos Artefact gained and Making Zombies - when a human player that your warband took out of action dies permanently you get +1 CP so yeah it's basically just an evil Damned Shall Burn.

Sounds crazy fun. I'm interested in hearing ALL the details you would care to share.

@Warhammer Ahoy--If you have any interest I would be glad to help you through them. I must admit there are large sections of the rules that we don't use or at least don't use often.

Special ships--I often toy with the idea, but so far we stick with our Small Warhammer Ahoy ships and boats and rafts. (We only use the old Empire In Flames rules for our boats and rafts). Also I'm not a fan of the wagon or boat 'belonging' to a hero or a ship needing to be purchased at all for that matter, but if your group has fun with it by all means, enjoy!

I really like the idea of the Slave galley.

There's a Dread Ship in Sartosa? I should read those files again...

I've run three Pyrates of the Karribean campaigns now with modified Objectives, etc. I have files to share if you are interested.

I would love to share any and all the details I can, where do we post battle reports and campaign up dates and what not?

And any info with warhammer Ahoy would be heaps of help! Same with Sartosa objectives!

The Dread Ship was in that Sartosa Add On document I got from Rational Lemmings Files I think?

I just found merged rules someone has written for Mordheim and Warhammer Ahoy during the week. You might find some aspects interesting.

This is excellent, thanks man. Our first 2 players have just bought their special boats, the Necrach with a Dread Ship and the Dark Elves with their Black Ark( though he'll be jealous of this dark elf corsair warband in the link haha). So it may not be too late to incorporate this stuff, our player in the lead is at 21 CP so were halfway through, but ill raise it with the group, thanks again for the link man.

VK has some rules in his Battle Report thread for when he originally started using Warhammer AHOY! rules (found over pages 1 & 2 of the thread). He has his own rules for how to incorporate ships into Mordheim.

https://boringmordheimforum.forumieren.com/t2058-to-be-a-pirate-king-endgame-and-fade-into-sunset-9-3-09

One of the things that I wasn't fussed on in the Warhammer AHOY! / Mordheim rules that I posted earlier was allowing the ships to attack the crew. It is realistic but I don't know how well it fits into Mordheim when crew sizes are small (e.g. warbands) because the crew can be killed two quickly. I don't know if VK's thread linked above mentions it but I liked the idea in his group that ships can only attack ships and warriors can only attack warbands. I have tried his idea in some of my own Mordheim battles and it works really well.

Edited to add... you've been silent. Where are your updates?  tongue

yeah alot of the Weapons in that Warhammer Ahoy Mordheim seem to OP, but i do like how alot of the warbands have hero options to make them more into what you're after like the Orc/Goblin/Black Orc one.

yeah sorry about the absence! the campaigns been going thick and fast (without too many problems haha). We're up to round 11 and our scion player is in the lead with 26 CP followed closely by the Celestial Maneaters on 23 so i feel a big battle coming soon haha. He's unlocked the siege! but is holding off for a while we prepare for our master plan. (although i have to stem my treacherous Hobgoblin blood not to betray the evil side haha). I'll try to start posting more, I especially want to get up some photos of my Hobgobbo's, they're all painted up but I gotta base them.

the highlight of our campaign so far has been our varient of the Dragon Hunt, which was the water themed Cthulhu Hunt! I used alot of rules from Von Kursts Sartosa Add On for his here be monsters scenario, gave Cthulhu free reign once awoken to get around the make, lash people with tentacles, submerge, and a new rule I put in there; the Massive Throw, at the end of a round of combat on a 4+ he grabs a random model in base contact and throws them 4D6, sometimes off the map, when we fought him he threw quite a few dudes, mostly into the water sometimes in passing ships it was epic.
While challenging we still beat him in the end, thanks to my resident archer (with a bit of help from my witch casting Scrye on him haha)

So yeah, more posts to come, thanks for the interest guys haha.

(also i can't seem to post pictures?)

The Sartosa add-on... of course! I spent some time searching this forum for VK's thread containing the rules without remembering that the rules had been compiled by StyrofoamKing into Sartosa.  lol!

Not sure what Warhammer Ahoy Mordheim you are referring to. Linc?

Wow your campaign points seem really low for round 11. We usually have someone in the upper 30s to 40 range by then (it just takes forever to fulfill victory conditions...)

Glad to hear you are still playing and enjoying yourselves.  thumbsup

What browser are you using? Also do you host them on a photosharing site or are you trying to host them thru Tom's? I'm finding the current version of the forum's photo posting really easy to use. I host with Shutterfly and use Chrome for a browser. So I use the Insert an Image icon when posting on Tom's. I must admit I have never got the Host an Image icon to work.

This massive campaign is enough to make everyone here well jealous!

Have many alliances been formed between the different sides?

I agree with Rational's points about the ships weapons being used to damage/sink other boats rather than blow up warriors. There's always going to be some situations where a model gets caught in the blast... When failing an Initiative roll to dive out of the way etc.

Nice to see you're using a Cthulhu type monster deity in a Cathayan pirate port setting! It sounds like an incarnation of Stromfels, God of Sea Predators and Storms.

DicLombardi was referring to a rulebook compilation that someone has created which combines the rules for Warhammer AHOY! and Mordheim (well adjusts the rules for Warhammer AHOY! for Mordheim).

Some of the ideas in the rulebook were interesting just to see what others have done. However I didn't like some of the stuff that was in there such as ships being able to target crew. I linked to it in this post:

Doh! I was confused by the idea first since the original author included Mordheim as one of the game systems to use when playing with Ahoy rules and then you lost my interest at 'Yahoo groups'. I really hate Yahoo groups.

Oh well, thanks for clearing that up.

Some of the content in the main document seems like it would be useful. Has anyone enjoyed playing games where boats are being sailed around the table in a wind tunnel?

I still can seem to load up the pics, but the Cthulhu we used was one from a game called heroclix that i got for cheap a few years back;
http://www.miscon.org/files/23/Gaming/cthulhu.jpg

he's pretty huge, standing about 10" tall to the head and 15" to the top of his wings.
it was an epic battle.

in regards to alliances; there's the obvious ones such as the Celestial Maneaters and the Damned Shall burn Sisters and the two Humans Shall Learn Players. the two Lure teams have remained pretty neutral, playing both sides, itll be interesting to see where they land in the siege. I've found myself in many alliance despite the fact that my hobgoblin nature forces me to betray them all! currently working alongside the equally untrustworthy Dark Elves so we'll see who betrays first.
