Hello everyone. I've been dabbling with miniature painting and skirmish games for about two years now and I've always wanted to get into Warhammer. Painting all those minis seemed daunting though, and I prefer skirmish games more, but I recently found Mordheim! I'm really excited to dive into it, and someone pointed me in the direction of this community and I really like what you guys have got going here.

I have a few questions:

Nowadays, do most folks build their warbands via random models? The actual Mordheim minis seem really rare on eBay and when they are on, they're expensive.

I'm thinking about whipping up a Cult of the Possessed or Undead warband. For building my warband, I'm trying to use plastics only, and preferably GW minis, in that order of importance, but I'll stray if a model is right or there are no options in the GW line. I'd really like to avoid metals and non-plastics.

So with that said, for the Cult of the Possessed, I'm really torn what minis to use for my cultists. And for the Undead, that warband seems pretty easy to make, all except for the Vampire - GW has some great ones but they're metal, and I'm using their Necromancer as the Necro for my warband, leaving no plastic vamps.

Any thoughts on any of this?

Welcome to Mordheim!

I have built several warbands and have a few more in the works stages. Most of my models are what you call random. Mostly GW with some other lines thrown in when the model works well for scale and style.

The vamp in my undead warband is metal, using an older blood dragon armored vamp. I have not seen a plastic version for a vampire. I do convert many of the models so you could try that direction, and while my greenstuff sculpting is limited you can always try yourself.

And with the mostly conversion work we do not adhere to WYSIWYG rules. Just disclosure to opponents about what would be visible on the unit.

Welcome to the forum. I used to game with a fellow who would not use plastic miniatures in his Warhammer armies. To each his own.

I would recommend just looking through the threads in the Painting and modeling section on Possessed warbands. That's what they are there for and there are many creative and unique warbands to borrow ideas from.

As for a plastic vampire there are a number of fanged heads in the current GW plastics range so you ought to be able to find something. Reaper Miniatures has tons of vampires, some have even made it into the Bones range.
