Thanks Al. Playtable is having some technical difficulties with his phone, so I have some other news from the Karribean:

The Traitor

dead - Pyrates of ye Karribean III--Dead Man's Chest - Page 5 Jungle_clearing_by_Glucka

"Thisss ways Master, thisss ways. Follow Gog, yes? Gog show Master."

The goblin was nervous. The Beast Shaman could smell his fear. The Morgluf was beginning to doubt that his control of the little greenskin was complete. The jungle night was dark as the pit. Morgulf could no longer distinguish the stars through the thick canopy above. The goblin ceased to move. Morgulf could sense clear space around him. They had entered a clearing.

"Weez 'ere." Gog almost sang the words. Morgluf could see little but a huge bulk before him. Then the goblin sprang away as something fell upon the Beast from above. Morgluf struggled with a heavy net.

"No kill Gog! No kill!" screeched the goblin as it ran into the night. His screams receded as the goblin struggled through the undergrowth. The terrified creature had lost the trail in the darkness. Morgluf hoped it suffered before it found its end.

"So-so at last we meet , yesss?" Morgluf tensed as the grating, evil voice spoke from the darkness. "Sso nice-good-convenient of you to come, oh yess." The Beastman could make out several sets of glowing eyes ringing the clearing.

"Show self!" roared the Beast.

"Quiet-still!" growled the voice. "You us know, yesss? So clever-smart-devious are you, yesss so."

Morgluf ripped the net apart. A crossbow bolt snatched one of the torn strands out of his claws. Murgulf threw himself flat as more missiles flew by in the gloom. He realized this was not the best position from which to bargain.

"Yesss, down! Bow down." crooned the voice. "You life wish, yesss? You may keep life...If you serve-slave-grovel us! You ideas give rebel-traitor-curs! You Pustus doubt his Pride cause. Now doubt-worry-snivel you, yesss? You serve us must, rebel-traitors-curs must see you do so. Serve-slave or die! Choose!"

Instead of offering a reward for the head of the Beasts' Shaman the Monks draw him as the Traitor Within. The Amazon's Priestess will have a price on her head next week.

Assassins!

dead - Pyrates of ye Karribean III--Dead Man's Chest - Page 5 Sk_PlagueMonk_LineDrawing_01_02_Daarken

The Plot,
The three conspirators all faced away from each other so that they could watch the entrances to the small burrow. However, since this meant that they could not see each other, there was a constant shuffling about.

"We, no, you honored Monks, strike must!" said one of the cloaked figures. "The tyrant intolerable is! The esteemed Sorcerer killed nearly was in last debacle! Alone! Yesss alone esteemed Sorcerer face many Ghosts, Man-things, many!"

"Yesss," agreed a deeper voice. "Alone, all alone fought each of us. Alone will you him defeat-kill-maim!"

"Yesss!" chimed the first voice. "Honor yours shall be! Honor! Favor of the god! Yesss, brother you alone it must be who us rids of this scourge-incompetent!

The Attack!
The Assassin watched with care. Despite his preparations, the killer was beset with doubt and worry. To calm himself, he silently recited the 13 Litanies of Pain. There was a sound! Something approached! His prayers were answered! The Assassin shrank further back into the shadows of the passageway.

Pustus Pestilus strode confidently along the passage. There was nothing to fear. He told himself this at least once every step. Nothing. The Priest was surrounded by his minions, guarded and warded on every side. No enemy could penetrate his defenses. None! Why Pustus would love to see them try. His Pride would crush their bones! Crush them! Pustus had seen him do it numerous times. His Pride... Pustus paused. Where was his Pride now? Right now?

"Die-die-die!" a cloaked figure sprang from the shadows. Pustus saw the gleam of a dagger. Pustus barely got his sword out in time. As it was his protective ward flared and died as it blocked a lucky blow. Pustus struck back in a flurry of blows, which did not touch his assailant at all! Pustus nearly stopped to check to see if his weapons were real, but with blinding speed the Priest launched another attack. With similar results! Pustus nimbly side-stepped a wicked blow. In desperation the Priest lashed out with an ill-timed blow which somehow connected! The hooded assassin collapsed in a heap.

Suddenly the passageway was clogged with running guards. Pustus' Pride had to be restrained lest he tear the intruder limb from limb before Pustus could identify it. Pustus tore the hood from the prone figure to confront the Monk Ignatz! Betrayed!

Post Battle
The Monk Ignatz is captured by Pustus' guards! Now what? Usually when a skaven challenges for leadership of the band, I would just reduce his leadership in addition to any injury and life would go on. But Pustus has captured his assassin. No way he can let this slide...

Well you managed to illustrate your Tale SPLENDIDLY without the photos. The insights into the twisted machinations of the Rat Guys' minds is always an interesting way to get a headache. GREAT STUFF!  thumbsup

Week 12--Larceny and Debauchery in Torktuga

Suspects
Bob--Sartosan Pyrates
Chad--The Lubbery Beasts
Chris--Amazons
playtable--Ghost Pyrates of Sartosa
Von Kurst--Clan Pestilens

Ye Heist!

The thief sat with his back to the wall.  He was nursing a tankard of grog while he waited for the Mutant Priest to come and collect the goods.  He had hidden the weapon inside a bundle of staves propped against the wall behind him.  The fog helped but he would be glad to part with the loot as soon as possible.  He felt a right fool lugging a bundle of six foot staves about.

"He came this way, I swear," proclaimed a loud female voice from the next room.  The thief collected the loot, pushed it through a convenient window and climbed out after it. Behind him rose shouts of alarm and anger.  The thief attempted to melt into the crowd but it was devilish hard carrying a six foot bundle of wood and iron.  The thief tried to look like an ordinary porter out for an errand.  People got out of his way at least.  The fog was thick as soup, but the drunken revels of Torktuga had hardly slowed down for a little fog.  People were everywhere.

"There he is!" brayed some doxy.  The gent next to him shouted in alarm when an arrow embedded itself in the bundle of staves.  The thief could barely see the archer through the maddened crowd.  He did see someone dump the doxy on her rear.  Served her right.  He had to get out of here!

The hunt closes in as the thief tries to link up with the skaven.

The Crypt Deniers rush toward the alarm.  Most of them will not even get close before its over.

The diabolical Squidface goes all ethereal on the poor thief.  The Ghost floated through the blocking skaven warrior to intercept the thief before he could reach safety.  Curses foiled again!
dead - Pyrates of ye Karribean III--Dead Man's Chest - Page 5 47a3d711b3127cce985488ddb2f100000035100AbOXDRkzbMmWA

Post Battle
The thief attempted to steal the Crypt Deniers' Hochland Long Rifle, but playtable rolled box cars for the first building he searched!  The fog helped the thief a bit, but Squidface refused to fail a stupidity test, which was most inconvenient for the thief.  No one died (except perhaps the thief).  Nearly all the skaven heroes who got an advance rolled leadership, which was not very useful considering Pustus had suffered a loss.  The craven Pi'ed failed his test to challenge Pustus, but he gained two more conspirators.
The Monks of Bilbous Abbey--1 CP

The Ghost of Elvis II was inconvenienced by Bloody Bill's Curse, but that was about all the bad luck playtable had for the game (aside for some awful rolls for how far we could see in the fog...)
The Crypt Deniers--2 CP  (3 actually as Captain Bluebeard reaches 45 exp to earn another CP.)

Thank you sir.

Another image has surfaced from The Heist:

One of my ungors died and the Centigaur took on a nervous condition, down to I 1, ouch. Nothing else happened to my warriors. I didn’t find anything cool either. The crowd and darkness were my enemies. I never fought Chris but to get to Bob I had to go down some stairs and then a ramp.

Guys kept getting knocked down by the crowd and then fell when trying to run on the staircase, and the one guy that tried jumping down failed his roll.

Thank you.  The statue is one of playtable's Dollar Store finds, from some Christmas Village collection.    I clipped the wreaths off and repainted the glittering snow.

Last Orders

"Tried ta take the long riffle," muttered the ghostly presence.  Pustus tried to ignore the drunken spirit.  The Monks of Bilbous Abbey had come to the Blow Hole to meet their new ally the Beast Shaman, Morgluf.  Unfortunately, the Crypt Deniers were celebrating their earlier victory at the same bar.  Pustus had marched in to the bar anyway.  The death of a hu-man thief was nothing to him.  The Monks would have what they wanted, eventually.

"Tried ta take whats ours," moaned the ghost.  "No one steals from the Crypt Deniers! Noohooo!"

"EEEeekk!" screamed Freda, the buxom serving wench.  "That THING pawed me!"

"Which one?" growled a pirate Amazon (or is it Amazon pirate?). "Point the mutant out and I'll geld it."  The Amazon grabbed an empty bottle and broke it against a nearby table.  A Novice smashed a chair and passed the legs around to his litter-mates.  A general melee erupted immediately.

A giant rat flings itself unto the chivalrous Amazon pirate.  The pesky warlock as just shot a Novice full of silver arrows. Things are looking bleak for Pi'ed the Piper.

Post Battle
S'Nerg the Initiate suffered the Black Spot (a Bloody Bill's Curse result that causes all friendly models within 6" of the affected warrior to suffer animosity).  He climbed up into the prow of the Blow Hole so none of his own comrades would be able to charge him. The Monks kept fighting despite some heavy losses.  All the summoned rats, the 'real rats', a bunch of Novices and Pi'ed the Piper went out of action.  No one died (although Pi'ed was close).
Monks of Bilbous Abbey--1 CP

The Crypt Deniers only had 3 models out of action.  None died.  The store closed for a draw.

Week 13--The Lure of Chaos

Secrets of the Beujuntae

Pustus surveyed the surrounding jungle cautiously. There was power here. Great power of change and corruption. The Priest was almost giddy with the prospect of harnessing such knowledge for the glory of the Great Horned Rat. Yes-yes, anything for the glory of the Great Horned Rat, Pustus Pestilus would only be the humble instrument.

The giant rat squealed in terror. The winds blew strong through the cursed valley. Treetops tossed wildly in the unnatural gale. Pustus could feel power gathering about him, but the Priest could see nothing. Then suddenly he could see EVERYTHING.

"GREETINGS LITTLE PRIEST," spoke an ancient voice inside Pustus brain. "THANK YOU FOR BRINGING THIS FEAST TO MY HOME. YOU SHALL BE REWARDED, IF YOU SURVIVE..."

Pustus was suddenly wonderfully powerful and ravenously hungry. The giant rat was the closest living thing. The Hunger demanded its blood. The rat tried to escape, but Pustus was blindingly fast. The rat's blood tasted exquisite. Pustus was transported in ecstasy. The being was not as impressed.

"POOR FARE, LITTLE PRIEST," intoned the voice. "POOR REWARD..."

Pustus felt incredible pain! The Priest's joints seemed to pop. Every nerve in his tortured body screamed. Pustus knew no more.

The Amazon's crazy doxies meet the rat ogre in the center of the valley.

Both warbands had lost their leader. The Beujuntae got Pustus and the Monks' Suicide Squad got the Serpent Priestess. The Amazons whittled themselves down to break point first. Still Skaven Leadership (and my dice) were not up to a war of attrition.

Post Battle
Pustus killed a giant rat. The Priest suffered a Hand Injury (-1 WS). Although Gzz'rot was able to catch a large fish in a bay, the Monks became lost in the jungle.

The Amazons survived a pit trap, an angry salamander (which they killed and robbed its nest of 2 eggs) and clinging vines. The Serpent Priestess recovered from her injuries, however, four of her tribeswomen died of their wounds! The Amazons loot the cursed tomb of the Magic Sickle and Ancient Bone Armor and return to the Heart of Darkness to trade.

The Heist
Pi'Ed reported that there was something wrong with the giant rat.  When asked what was wrong, the sorcerer replied that it was dead.  Pustus suggested that they eat it quickly and move on.  The game was afoot.  If all his plans were executed properly, the Sartosans would be relieved of an item of power this night.  The mist cloaked the jungle like a white cloud, it was the perfect time to steal the Tome!

"Forward-forward my brethren," ordered the Priest.  "We must the thief's escape ensure."

Pustus watched with pride as his minions melted into the mist.  The man-things would never see them coming until it was too late.  There was a squeal of terror from the left paw.  Pustus could see nothing, but he could smell the musk of fear in the night.

"Morgluf!" he whispered. "Do thou and Gzz'rot disturbance investigate-sniff-look."

Pustus followed his minions toward the disturbance at a safe distance.  Suddenly the mist seemed to tear apart.  Pustus could see.  The Priest had scant time to consider if this was good or not. Ahead in a small clearing Pustus saw a horrible spider-thing crouched over Initiate S'Nerg's body.  The beast was huge.  What had that fool S'Nerg done? The Morgluf had frozen in terror.  Gzz'rot rushed toward the spider screaming a battle chant.

Before Gzz'rot could kill the spider, the Morgluf seemed to recover, he chanted a familiar litany. Pustus resisted the urge to stab the shaman in the back. The spider was tamed!  Pustus bustled forward to take control of his new pet.  But as he reached it, the spider lunged at Pustus with its mandibles clacking!  Pustus barely escaped with his life!  Betrayed!

Post Battle
The Monks made contact with the pirates way too soon, which, combined with the appearance of a gigantic spider in their midst, led to too many casualties.  Pustus held on for several turns but Ld 7 rarely trumps Ld 9.  The Monks lost the last giant rat killed and a veteran Novice captured.  S'Nerg fully recovered.  The Monks were able to find their bearings and return to Torktuga.
Monks of Bilbous Abbey--2 CP (+1 for hero OoA with no allies within 6" again!)

Despite early success in searching for the thief, the pirates truly excelled at wounding skaven.  Especially summoned giant rats.  The Tilean Marksman fell in quicksand and was not rescued.  The ogre bodyguard was killed by the orc crew after Morgluf turned the ogre against his employers.  One Sartosan hero now hates Pustus, the others recovered from their wounds.  The Sartosans return to Torktuga as well.

I'm not sure if my fondness for Thanquol comes from Bill King's stories or from his resemblance to Daffy Duck. Either way he's an entertaining character. Whatever, the Battle Report was also entertaining as always.  thumbsup

Down on the Docks

KaBOOM!

Pustus Pestilus ducked instinctively beneath the oily waves as the smuggler's bow gun exploded.  When the smoke cleared the gunner, his gun and part of the ship's rail were gone.  Praise the Horned One!  Something was going according to plan.  Pustus had flung himself into the canal in order to avoid the hail of shot and shell.  The cruel sun beat down on the town, but it was quite pleasant floating in the canal.  Pustus considered soaking a bit longer, but a scream from the streets above reminded the Priest High Commodore of his duties.

"Forward my minions!" ordered the Priest has he hauled himself up out of the effluent of the canal. The sight that greeted the dripping Plague Priest chilled him to the bone.  His Pride lay sprawled upon the cobblestones.  The Ghost Captain Bluebeard and a skeletal beastman hacked at the dying monster with cruel blades.

Despite the victory over Pustus' Pride, Captain Bluebeard fails his first rout test by rolling a 10 or so!  The Smugglers routed a couple of turns later.

Post Battle
The Crypt Deniers suffered Bad Omens to start the game which slowed them down some. They lost Razzmatazz the Traitor, the Only Good Shot (a BS4 crossbowman) and a newly recruited Cursed Crew.  They collected no cargo from the docks, but did open a crate in exploration (which contained a Swivel Gun!)  They also press ganged a drunk off the docks as they fled to replace their losses somewhat.
Crypt Deniers--1 CP

Pustus suffered a minor aliment (-1 WS) as a result of Bloody Bill's Curse.  Hairy the Skeletal Beastman killed the Rat Ogre Pustus' Pride.  How big a blow this will be to the power of the Monks only time will tell.  The monster did absorb all the shooting from the Crypt Deniers for two turns, plus engaging 3 warriors in melee before his death.  Mad Captain Bluebeard's strength 5 attacks did for him in the end.

The Monks captured a full cargo of food and clothing which also included 2 doses of poison and some Crimson Shade. (Why are poisons smuggled in cargoes of food?)  In addition the Monks visited the Cartographer during Exploration and acquired a Map of the Lost City.

The Game Preserve has had two of these bridges in its scenery collection since I started playing here 18 yrs ago. Other pieces have come and gone but these two unplayable bridges survive. I used to see them in game stores all over the Midwest, but I have forgotten who made them.

I need to build some bridges like werekin's from his City of Islands.

The Great Gun
Being the Third Attempt by the Sartosans to Steal a Cannon from the Olde Forte

Them Sartosans, they swaggered ashore like they owned the place. No nonsense there, they went right for the big cannon down by The Point, ye know it? Still there was a couple of flies in the ointment. Them Scaly Wags slithered right along as well. And then there was that Monster Spider! Big as a jolly boat it was. The thing crawled out of the jungle right behind them Sartosans. Scared the living daylights out of the lubbers down by the docks, I tell ye true. Folks running every which way but loose. Crowd trampled most of both crews before the smoke cleared. Then it got ugly.

The Giant Spider attacks the Sartosans from the rear. Unfortunately for the Lizards the crowd runs them down trying to flee from the spider.

Sundayheim--Pressgang!

Chris--Amazons
Von Kurst--Savage Orcs

dead - Pyrates of ye Karribean III--Dead Man's Chest - Page 5 Ac4-havana

The night was dark and wet. Rain fell steadily. Grumpas shoved his way through the motley crowd. He was on a mission for Gork or perhaps Mork to recruit lubbers to man the oars. The young orc was looking for someone alone, perhaps someone who had had a bit too much of the fire-water. There! A man-thing paced the deck of a big-cloud-canoe. Grumpas crept aboard quietly.

"Ugh!" said the orc in greeting. The man-thing nearly choked on his grog. The lout spit in Grumpas' eye and hauled out a wicked cutlass. Grumpas smashed his stone club upside the fool's head. Grumpas looked on as the lubber staggered back, flipped over the rail and landed with a sickening thud on the stone jetty below. Grumpas figured there was more to this 'recruiting' than he had thought.

The young orc moved quickly to the rail to check on the lubber he had chopped. As he did so he heard a loud rumble. Grumpas looked at the sky expecting lighting. Instead flaming rocks rained down from the sky! Gork or perhaps Mork was angry. Grumpas heard a scream from the north. He looked to his right in time to see Uggg's cloak burst into flame. The Nutta was crossing the rickety bridge Grumpas had crossed earlier. Behind Uggg Grumpas could see more of the tribe's warriors dodging the flaming missiles. Bash-Bash-Bash fell from the bridge into the harbor below.

More screams erupted from the south. There Grumpas could see the Jungle Doxies dancing about as one of them burned. The Jungle Doxies had nearly crept up on him! Gork or perhaps Mork had sent the fire to save him! Grumpas leapt off the ship to hide in the darkness. Some of the doxies screamed and ran toward him as the fires died in the rain. Grumpas drew an arrow and began to sing his death song. It was a good night to die.

The event Minor Volcanic Eruption started a few fires and took a couple of Amazons OoA (including the Serpent Priestess!) The Amazons knocked their drunk into the canal, where he promptly drown. The warrior who spilled the drunk into the canal was pushed in after him by the stampeding crowd. A hungry shark took care of that girl and so it went. Chris and I hung on, passing rout test after rout test in the hope that we could recoup our mounting losses from pressed drunks, but it was not to be.

Only one Amazon warrior died, but the Priestess and the Stupid Shooty Girl were both Robbed. This was a disaster for Chris as he lost all his cool toys (Sun Staff, Cloak of Mists, Hochland Long Rifle, etc.) Stupid Shooty Girl lost an eye as well, which might put an end to her shooty ways. With only three heroes available to explore, the Amazons did not make much cash.
Amazons--1 CP

The Red Jaw White Skulls mostly provided comic relief, but won anyway when Chris' Stupid Shooty Girl walked off a roof and fell into the canal below (which actually topped anything the orcs had done by a long ways.) Grumpas became Hardened. Magoth suffered a Hand Injury. The orcs made 40 gold which did not meet payroll for the Hired Swords, so some of the stash had to be liquidated.

On the bright side, four Henchmen rolled Lads Got Talent, which resulted in two new heroes.

Week 15--Here There Be Pyrates

Buccaneers
Chris--Amazons

Von Kurst--Clan Pestilens

The Lustrian Treasure Ship

Pustus Pestilus looked upon the ravaged hulk.  It was a wonder it was still afloat.  The sails were tattered; one of the masts looked like it was held up with splints; the shattered rails showed damage from cannon and musketry.  Still her captain had gotten the ship this far, only to fall afoul of the Priest High Commodore and his erstwhile allies. Pustus watched the distant ship as the survivors tried to raise more sail.  It would do them no good.

The Treasure Ship sails toward three enemies.  The Amazons on the left, Ghost Pyrates center and skaven on the right.dead - Pyrates of ye Karribean III--Dead Man's Chest - Page 5 47a3ce36b3127cce98548890c38d00000035110AbOXDRkzbMmWA

The Crypt Deniers tried to make a fight of it with two ships, but the Priest High Commodore was able to out maneuver the leaderless Ghosts.  The Ghost Ship is forced to strike its colors.

Post Battle
The Amazons suffered from missile fire.  (Hairy Beast got 3 with one blunderbuss shot.)  Then Buffalo Head's attempt at boarding the Ghost Ship ended with the boarding party OoA and the jolly boat sunk.  Buffalo Head is Hardened as a result.  Another Amazon warrior dies.
Amazons--1 CP

The Crypt Deniers had four heroes OoA when they struck their colors.  Mate Marley now hates the Amazons. The rest of their casualties fully recovered (one with the help of the Medicine Chest).  Dancia the Witch is fired for being ineffective, which is sort of cruel since her spell disarmed Buffalo Head so the Crazy Doxy could be defeated.  'Tis a hard world. The Crypt Deniers return to Torktuga to trade.
Crypt Deniers--5 CP

The Monks of Bilbous Abbey cleaned up.  The hired Warlock was eaten by the shark, and a cannon crew died, but they were mere minions of no account.  The Monks collected 11d6 gc and 20 gc worth of jewels and 1 dose of Black Lotus poison.  The Monks returned to Torktuga to sell their prizes.

Hey, hey!  You take your time now.  No rush.  Someday a long time from now. What a Face

The ships are taking some battle damage, mostly scraped paint and dings.  The Ghost Ship had some rigging come untied so the front sail was flapping free.  Not bad after 8 yrs or so, but they could use some TLC.

After the disaster known as the Adventure of the Beajuntae, the Monks had become lost in the jungles of Lustria.  [See Week 13] For days they wandered the jungle trails, constantly on guard against the natives and monstrous beasts that hunted the area.  Finally after much tribulation, the Monks reached the coast.  Gzz'rot proved his worth by fashioning a net and landing a large fish.  Priest High Commodore Pustus Pestilus declared a day of feasting and celebration to honor the Horned Rat, who had led them out of the wilderness.  There was much rejoicing.

Later that night Pustus received word that sentries watching the coast had spotted a sail.  Taking only a few guards with him, the Plague Priest rushed from camp to see this mystery ship for himself.  As the group rushed along a deserted beach a glowing apparition of a horned, albino skaven scorcerer and a decayed giant rat confronted them.

"PUSSSTUSSS PESSSTILUSSS!" moaned the specter.  Pustus' guards sprayed the musk of fear and fled for their lives.  Pustus was made of sterner stuff (or perhaps he was rooted to the spot with terror).  The Priest cowered back from the spirit.

"P-p-palor?" he squeaked.

"AYE!  'TISSS I, PALOR OF PALE BONE, WHOMMM YE WWHWRONGED!" moaned the thing.  The giant rat crouched at its feet bared its rotted fangs and skittered closer.  A shower of pebbles fell among the rocks at its passing.  Even in his terror Pustus thought that spirits shouldn't disturb pebbles.  The Priest yanked his sword and dagger free of their scabbards and leapt at the startled apparition.

The plague rat met his attack, but the foul beast was no match for Pustus' desperate fury.

"FOOLLL!" shouted the apparition in a familiar voice.  The thing intoned an incantation.  Warpfire shot from the sorcerer's outstretched paws!  Pustus was engulfed in searing flame.  The plague rat was consumed in fire, but Pustus continued his charge, trailing green sparks.

"NOOOOS!" screamed the thing as it tried to draw a rusted sword from a painted scabbard.  Pustus was upon it in an instant., hacking and stabbing with righteous fury.  This was another rebel, an assassin sent by his enemies!  See it bleed!

Pustus sword bit.  The pale apparition bled!  But before Pustus could strike a killing blow, the body of his attacker seemed to turn to mist.  The mist fled into a tiny crack in a nearby boulder.  Pustus hacked the rock in frustration.  Pustus was alone on the rocky strand.  His fur was scorched as was the sand where the plague rat had died, but otherwise there was nothing else to be found when his craven guards returned with reinforcements.

Post Battle
Pustus survived another assassination attempt.  Pi'Ed the Sorcerer fully recovered from his wounds.  The sorcerer lost a point of leadership for his failure.
