Caveo-heim [WIP]

Thank you for the replies on my other thread :)I've decided I should stop procrastinating and get started..

Building Related

- The first few batches of buildings will be pretty standard, no specialist buildings [churches, etc] as I want to get a basic town in place. I will try not to follow a standard 'pattern' though.

- All the buildings are going to be based on 25x25cm or 25x12.5cm bases.

- I'm saving all the painting until the end, so in Work In Progress terms, they'll get to a patched together state and then pop up again later as the painting commences!

- Floors!? While I have a vague idea of where I intend to place floors, they'll not be added until much later [perhaps after the painting]. So if there are bizarre open spaces the could be because I plan to have an accessible floor there - or a 'hand' space!

Game Play Related

- You'll notice open sections of walls [especially] on the 1st level, these are for walk ways to link up. There may also be large cracks to help make the cover less helpful.

- The 2nd level will normally be 'unstable' with small areas and patchy floors. They may make good vantage points, but with the idea you can't camp too easily. If you get get hit and start to stumble... how many floors will you fall down?!

- There may be gaps between floors to encourage/force jumping. Simply because I feel it adds to the ruined feel and will no doubt add burst of anger, fear and humour to the game. I tend to play as the Dwarves and having to jump fills me with fear! It's a shame they can't help one another, but as Gimli says: "No one tosses a Dwarf!"

Some of these concepts may change and evolve as I go along. I'll also be posting this WIP thread in another location to get extra critique that may lead to more ideas! I apologise if you loiter in both locations.

GOOD START! Adding the floors after at least the basic paint job is complete isn't a bad idea at all; re, you won't run into any inaccessible areas during the painting.
Try not to over plan. Many a project has died in "the pale cast of thought". Have FUN with the Beasty!  

Just a small update. Between building a [real] chicken coop and battling hayfever I've been drawing out the floor to my board in foam. I think I need to reposition my TV or start the process in a more interesting environment to stop the boredom from kicking in.

Blueness.

I tried the T.V thing a couple of times. For moi, it was a no win situation; i.e., I either missed what was happening on the tube or I forgot about the foam...only when they were covering golf did I concentrate on the foam.   
That aside, the stonework looks TERRIFIC. If you go for smaller cobbles, you find the cramped fingers relieves the boredom.  

Looks promising. I wanna see more of this.

A quick update.

I did do a quick burst of 'floor foam' while watching Men Behaving Badly. However the particles from the foam sent my eyes into melt down, so for the time being I've stopped rather than inflicting blindness upon myself.
DeafNala you mentioned watching TV or doing the foam -- watching a dvd of something you've seen a thousand times I find is a good way not to be distracted, but forms some kind of entertainment.

The buildings above (and a couple of others) have been undercoated and had the walls textured. I will start making up some more ruins soon and may do update photos then. At the moment there's nothing really worth seeing.

Yike! What are you doing to the foam?

Just scoring it with a pencil - I don't know if it'd been kept in a warehouse or somewhere odd (bought it on ebay), but little sand-type 'particles' are coming off it. They are very shiny and I can only assume they're an eye detecting defense mechanism of the foam.

Time goes quickly, eh? I discovered that studying and life can hugely get in the way of making a Mordheim bored. As such everything got halted for a LONG time (as you can probably work out from the original post date). However, I've started it back up and thought I'd show what has been happening so far.

Base

This is basically complete. It isn't perfect but it's playable and I currently have no intention to go to the effort of changing it (although the experience has made me think of other, better ways of doing it).

As you might be able to work out from the photos the middle sections can 'pop out' in two parts to form a ditch which a building can fit into. Mainly because when I played this (ages ago!) we got annoyed by scenery getting knocked or moved by accident. I realise this makes it very modular but I've not lined all buildings up flush to the edges / angled them on bases to hopefully add angles onto the battlefield.



Buildings

I'm too lazy to show them all individually at the moment, but here is a stack of some 'WIPs.' The one top left that is painted is nearest to the finished look. I'm going to try finishing them all to a basic standard before adding fluff. That way I will hopefully have lots of 99% finished buildings.

The style of these buildings is 'lower end' Mordheim. At some point I'm hoping to make buildings including brick work as we move into higher classed areas. Also the way I've done the flooring, especially on the higher levels, is going to make the falling rule a frequently visited page on the rulebook I think!



Hopefully this project has been kicked back into life and will progress from here!

WELCOME BACK! The stuff looks promising...I used a similar method for basing the buildings on the Mordheim boards I made for a friend way back when. Keep up the GOOD WORK as time permits!

I'm trying not to slack too much on the buildings as I'm hoping to get them done / playable within the next couple of weeks as my brother-in-law will be coming over from America (Texas). So we're hoping to have a game or too, if there's the time (they've a new baby to show off to family and friends so we have to pretend Mordheim isn't the main reason he came over! )

So far the woodwork has been painted (minus the last bits of drybrushing) and floor tiles have been added to a few buildings. Hopefully I'll get eleven buildings to the 95%-painted state pretty soon. Just leaving the weathering effects, etc to be done when there's more time available.

Thus far no problems with the basing. Since I've been doing it for quite some time, I guess it's The Way...at least for moi.
