| Hello all! Here's a little fluff to go with my stout-hearted Reiklander warriors! Captain: Werner von Kriegstadt [img] [/img] The bastard son of a minor-yet-influential Reikland noble, he has no lands, no titles, and no chances to better his position save one: risking life, limb, and soul in Mordheim in a desperate attempt to prove to himself and others that he is worthy of his namesake. That, and to make the old man pay once he returns at the head of a force of hired swords. Champions: Marcus Schiller and Kurt Hauptmann [img] [/img] Marcus is the oldest son of a blacksmith for the Krieghaus estate and immediately joined Werner for the chance at getting out of the forge and making his fortune. Kurt was a disgraced Greatsword bodyguard that was dismissed for drunken and disorderly conduct. His demeanor and personal quest for redemption have served his captain well. Youngbloods: Johann Bremner and Detlef Jaeger [img] [/img] A brawler and a cutpurse, these two best friends impressed Werner with their enthusiasm and resourcefulness, and are eager to cut their teeth under his command. Time will tell if they will prove themselves. These men are also joined by two elite swordsmen: [img] [/img] They also are accompanied by a trio of Reikland's famous archers, and two desperate dock thugs they hired just outside Mordheim: [img] [/img] [img] [/img] I put these guys together and painted them about 3 years ago, but I have played Mordheim with them ever since. Hope you guys like the pics!

| I like them a lot especially the ones where you mixed the Mercenari-sprue with some others (Catachan? LotR-Elves?) But why do the two dock thugs look exactly the same? | |

| In agreement with Grimscull here! Good mixing, but it is a bit strange that the thugs not only are identical twins, but also wear the same clothes - must be confusing for the captain when he's shouting his orders. | |

| The Gang look to be a very business-like, no-nonsense Group of Rogues. The Captain & the Great Sword are particularly nice pieces...I rather like the twins also. WELL DONE! | |

| LOL! Guess I was still in WFB mode in which it doesn't really matter if the models in a unit are identical. Most of my henchmen are that way, and I make the heroes much more unique. Glad you guys like them! Used bits from Militia, 40K eldar and kroot (for the captain's head and pistol), Skaven Gutter Runners (Captain's cape), Empire State troops, Chaos Marauders, Empire Knights, and Wood Elf Glade Guard. The heroes also make frequent cameos in my WFB games as an Empire Free Company Detachment. | |

| I've now got enough coin to bring in a Hired Sword, and these are the models I have available: an Elf Ranger, a Tilean Marksman, or a Warlock. Any suggestions as to which one I should go for? [img] [/img] | |

| Three FINE LOOKING mini adventurers. WELL DONE! Just on looks, it would be a hard choice...I'd tend to go for the Tilean Marksman myself. | |

| I agree with Nala, the Tilean Marksman gives the most bang for the buck, with the warlock as runner up. | |

| Decided to give my warband a little make-over in the henchmen category, since there are so many good examples of characterful henchmen here on the forums! That, and to celebrate my crossbowmen reaching their last advancement! They're still WIP, and I will finish them soon, but they'll make a fine addition IMHO. [img] [/img] These guys will also be great to use as Kislevites when and if I get around to building another warband! EDIT: Here's the finished bunch with the rest of the warband.[img] [/img] | |

| Those crossbowmen look good. You will find, if you haven't already, that crossbowmen are best when there are many of them. The weight of many crossbowshots can bring the toughest enemy down!
They seem a little heavily washed, but perhaps you will amend that? The middle guy could also use a highlighting dry brush on his hat (or whatever it's called). Other than that they look really nice!

| Yeah, that pic I took was a WIP, and the wash hadn't fully dried yet. Totally agree on the Crossbow volleys, especially since my main rival seems to be Orcs! | |

| My newest Hero is a promoted Marks[wo]man that managed to bring down a couple of Orcs in my last game. Introducing Juliana Starker. Had a really fun time taking a break from painting elves to get her facial features and hair just right. She'll make a fine addition, using her crossbow to provide covering fire for the rest of the warband, and back up the other henchman shooters. Hope you guys like her! | Love that mini! Strange thing though - I have bought alot of Klocke minis, and I always have problems getting their faces to look good. If you have any advice I would be happy. | |

Well, starting with her eyes, I used a very small brush to get a dab of black over the entire eye area. Once that dried, I then put a smaller dab of white on top, leaving a black outline, giving a shadow/eyeliner effect. Next, I put an even smaller black dot just at the top of they eye. If the dot connects with the bottom of the eye, it never looks quite right. Black/dark brown works best. Blue or green don't stand out as well and just end up looking weird or wrong. The skin was Elf Flesh (the lightest skin tone I have), with a brown wash over it. Once that dried, I drybrushed pure white onto the raised areas, and then touched up the borders with a watered-down flesh tone. This process does take a while, using light layers rather than one heavy coat. Blonde hair is more challenging than brown/black hair I've found, but with practice it's not that bad. I start with a yellowish brown (I use "Bubonic Brown" as the foundation). After that dries, I use a thin wash of brown/reddish brown. I then highlight with a light flesh color. The effect looks much more natural, and gives the layered look of blonde hair. (Luckily, my wife is blonde haired, so I had her for color reference!) Lastly, I gave the border of the skin and hair a VERY fine wash of dark brown/black which gives more of a shadow illusion. Hope these tips help! | |

| Bit of thread-omancy here, but I found some other pics of some Reiklander models that I've used in previous campaigns as well as the one last year, and I figured I'd share. These are some other Crossbowmen models that I ended up using as a second henchmen group. The middle one makes for a nice LGT hero. Some Swordsmen with shields. I though the hooded heads from the Wood Elf sprues gave them a kind of bandit feel to them. Again, the middle one is a good candidate for LGT. As my heroes progress and get better equipment, I've used models like these guys to represent them. At the end of my first campaign, I managed to salvage a blunderbuss, and devoted a single marksman to using it! These guys rounded out my Reiklander warbands, and have served me VERY well in the past. Hope you guys like them! | |

| The Reiklander Lads look very business like...no nonsense here. They are the beneficiaries of some nice brushwork...the Hero with the sworn & axe on the left has a particularly expressive face. GREAT WORK! | |

| Thanks Nala! The sword/axe warrior was a fun one to do a while back, but every now and then, the axe would break off at the base from his hand, hence the seemingly HUGE glob of glue that I never can seem to file down enough! Oh well, thanks for the compliments, and I'm glad you like them. | |
