I'm late to the BTB party, but I've been going over the rules for a few hours and I've a few questions. Starting with this one from the Silent Threat:

Quote :
+D3 Target Eliminated. Whenever an opposing Hero is taken out of action by a warband member with none of his allies around within 6" the warband gets +D3 CP.

So who has none of his allies around within 6", the victim or the attacker? This seems really hard to keep track of, just look at how hard it is to remember all alone tests.

What or who counts as an ally?

Heh. I always assumed that this 6" related to the Hero that was taken OOA and not the attacking warrior. However, having re-read the line I have changed my mind to the opposite that the 6" applies to the attacking warrior because of the fluff of the objective (e.g. a warband member with the Silent Threat objective sneaks into the ranks of the enemy and takes an enemy Hero OOA... just like an assassin...).

Allies would be members of Hero's warband, members of allied warbands and allies as defined in the BTB Beasts of the East section (AKA "Bestiary").

Rational's first interpretation was quite right. The idea is to pick out enemies who are alone. It's not really hard to keep track of it because, well, the attacker is the one who will do the checking whenever he takes an enemy OOA and you don't have to do this like every turn for all models.

Imagine you have one of your snipers with a crossbow positioned in a building and you shoot at enemy models. Obviously you can always satisfy the requirement (having no allies around your own models) yourself so of course the point is to have no allies around the victim, thus giving the opposing player a chance to prevent you from getting the CPs.

Reading the wording now it definately can be interpreted both ways. Maybe this is something for the FAQ thread... Rational...? Wink

This one for example:

Quote :
The Silent Threat
35 Assassination: As the fiendish conspiracy of this scheming clique
comes to a head, nominate a leader from any warband to be
assassinated. The chosen model is treated as eliminated and must be
removed from that warbands roster sheet as if dead. The warband
chooses a Hero to be the new leader as usual.
Only warbands with the Burglary achievement will earn this achievement.

Is this one use only? Which warband chooses a Hero...as normal?

@Cianty... yes I plan to do a refresh of the FAQ from when I first created it to present (and do that periodically to ensure that everything is captured in the FAQ) so this thread will definitely go in.

@VK... This is only one use only. The Silent Threat warband chooses the leader to assassinate.

The idea the late 35 CP achievements is to raise the stakes of the very end of a campaign. This is why a leader can be killed from this Silent Threat achiement or warbands can be eliminated from the campaign in the Damned Shall Burn objective (if defeated in battle) or the leader of a chaos warband can become a daemon prince (in the right conditions).

Also, the condition at the end about achieving the Burglary achievement prevents warbands changing objectives to the Silent Threat objectve late in a campaign and then being able to assassinate an enemy leader.

Thanks Ben.

My question was really about this sentence. Which warband choses? I'm not sure that it could matter, but the sentence is unclear, both players are refered to as warbands in the rule.

Ah. Obviously Christian will have the definitive answer. I take that to mean follow standard rules for replacing a leader as if the leader was lost by any other method (i.e. Hero with highest leadership becomes new leader).

The Abandoned Trading Post

Quote :
Any warband that discovers the abandoned trading post after it has been restored, may choose at any time to play the special scenario "Hostile Embargo" once, with the warband that restored it.

So if 2 warbands both discover the Abandoned Trading Post and one restores it, does the other warband have to re-discover the Trading Post to play the special scenario?

Don't you *love* how playing reveals so many little niggles with how things are worded! Very Happy

I think that to be fair it would be fair to allow the other warband who was unable to restore the Abandoned Trading Post before the other warband to play "Hostile Embargo".

I have a question on when to apply the CP in the post game.

The rules state
BtB page 39 wrote:
Mark a check box for every Campaign Point (CP) the warband gets – similar to gaining Experience points. Whenever you reach a thick-bordered box check the Achievement chart for the Objective to see what happens.

My take is it is applied via my interpritation (and logic) after Experience is allocated (or before but Not sure that matters).

I ask as in some objectives in BtB and even home brewed Objectives can effect the post game sequence. Such as "The Celestial Protectorate's" Achievement of "Conclave" that effects the exploration phase.

We never thought about this so I don't know what we did in our campaign.

In the Post Battle Sequence XP is allocated as the second step. The rule that you quoted says that CPs should be updated "similar to gaining Experience points" so without any other guidance I would do increment CPs at the second step too immediately after incrementing XP. This is before rolling on the Exploration Chart which is the third step.

That is exactly how I assume it is but I want to be sure and that it is the intent... And maybe it can be made clear in MiM when it comes out too Wink

The scenario is a trading post raid. As such it requires a defender to restore the post and an attacker to locate the post and raid it. It needs two warbands to participate. Both need to know where the trading post is. The only way to find a location is exploration.

This is unusual but the rules do state that special scenarios can be 'unlocked' during the course of the campaign. You get the idea now.

Reminds me there was supposed to be a battle report from playtesting this scenario. Rev & I took notes and photographs but sadly it never materialised. Sad

Achievements earned by warbands are checked in the same way that Heroes & Hired Swords would check for skills. You wouldn't expect them to apply mid-game. I think that campaign points tend to be totted up in the post battle sequence anyway.

Regards,

Werekin

I've got a thread where I'm linking to all BTB answer threads. I haven't updated it in a long time though. Embarassed
