No problem...nothing I enjoy more than shuffling posts. It would be easier to recognize a rules thread if it actually contained rules. What a Face

To make matters clearer I have now uploaded the completed scenario file for a hostage game. This should appeal to anyone who wishes to co-ordinate a bodysnatching escapade in their Mordheim campaigns!

Download the scenario Swap Meat now from Liber Malefic

This scenario develop more detail based on the hostage guidelines from the Powder Bridge scenario. This can also be downloaded from the Rules section on our campaign blog.

Further insight into how captured models can make your campaign games more dramatic have been compiled in my tactical post Captive Honour. You can find my notes saved in a new section dedicated to Topical posts on Liber Malefic.

Regards,

Werekin

What i read is that you work out the slaver rules a little bit more.

I personally think that the slaver rule is way too mighty. Every model taken out of action in hand to hand is automatically captured? This is not balanced in my opinion. On the other hand you give more warband to achieve this option to balance this broken skill. This may help. I am really interested how this slaver buisness works in your campaign, i personally tend to not use the slaver rule in our games.

Not automatically captured. If the warband with the slaver routs then the model is not captured, neither is it injured! Meaning that as a consequence of the slaver's warband routing the player gets a better exploration result.

To form a 'balanced opinion' you will first need to play through the material. study

Slavers are broken, elves are broken blah blah. Neutral

Chaos Dwarf warbands have two overseers with man-catchers to capture enemy models. Most warbands can typically hire one slaver in the form of a Hired Sword who hardly cuts an impressive figure in combat! The Ogre Slavemaster and Bounty Hunter Hired Swords would seem to have more clout.

The Mutiny in Marienburg campaign aids do not allow for models to be enslaved universally. There are specific behavioural details which promote doing it and these feed into the relevant warband objectives. Warbands that need to take models captive (because it's what they would naturally do) have a reason to exist in this arena.

It could be argued that in a generic campaign with no guidance on the topic the matter of models being captured by a Slaver can become degenerate.

Two players can certainly create some serious social friction in a group when they fail to entreat with each other over the hostage situation in a civil fashion!

The bottom line is that hostage taking is dramatic. It forms the basis of some excellent plot hooks if the players can ride out the emotional side of their campaign experience. Player aids that I have begun supplying are giving some rational basis for excusing warriors being taken captive in a campaign.

The rest in up to the players! How they wish to contest a hostage crisis or negotiate a ransom or exchange based on the warband achievements from campaign plots and the established guidelines for captured models.

Where is this rule hidden? It is not part of the current rules for the Slaver, either in the largely incomprehensible original form or in the Slaver listed in Hired Swords of the Empire. The Slavers rules actualy do say the model is "automatically captured". No mention is made of routing or such.

The Ogre Slavemaster and the Bounty Hunter may indeed be more objectionable. The Ogre slavemaster is definitely banned from use in our campaigns and the Bounty Hunter was a bit too popular in the last campagn...

Also while Muntiny in Marienburg may indeed have checks on enslaving models, the use of the rules in other camapaign settings, like Mordheim, may avoid these checks to the detriment of the game.

May be Hired: Skaven, Dark Elves, Arabians,
followers of Chaos and Chaos Dwarf warbands may
hire a Slaver.

This hardly seems like a list of "most" warbands... Some perhaps? Smile

That said I do quite enjoy using the expanded pressganging rules from the Sartosa campaign. Capturing henchmen who rolled a 1-2 to survive on a 4+ and heroes only on an Injury result of Captured provides quite a bit of entertainment.

Quite true. It does state this. As has been pointed out, we are talking about the trademark skill for a Hired Sword that is unpopular in it's originally published state.

Slaver is one of the six special skills which I'm applying to my Mobsmen warband list. The current wording that our campaign games are based on reads as follows;

Slaver: Any Hero or Henchman put out of action by the Slaver in hand-to-hand combat will automatically be captured (see 'Captured' on the Serious Injuries chart, p.119 of the Mordheim Rulebook) unless the Mobsmen warband is routed.

Any Hero or Henchman captured must be sold or exchanged to another warband during the post battle sequence. If an arrangement cannot be reached with another warband, then that particular Hero or Henchman is sold into slavery and removed from the warband roster.

There may never be more than two warriors with this skill in the warband at any one time.

Regardless of the 'nerfing' aspects, Heroes picking up this skill have still proven to be unpopular. Players will generally avoid combats with Slavers due to the ramifications if they lose/rout.

There is a lot more to consider than this. I have observed that Slavers not only attract missile fire, they are obvious targets for watch patrols to place under arrest in the risky pursuit of campaign rewards. This also acts as a deterrent for a player choosing the special skill (or hiring a Slaver) as he will attract the attention of any player's warbands who have 'jurisdiction' to deal with criminals; Slavers, Assassins, Poisoners etc.

If a particular character doesn't fit in with a setting then I can understand passing it over in favour of more appropriate choices, of which there are so many.

As far as 'banning' goes, I'd be careful in bearing in mind we're talking about a game that nerds will play for enjoyment . Consider the ogre player who has invested in modelling a Slavemaster character for his warband because its one of the precious few options available to expand the scope of his warband. Hence I tend to find the banning of useful campaign options to be derogatory.

The Bounty Hunter is interesting. I wish more players would use them! Sascha brought one to Marienburg and a Fimir Warrior rearranged his pretty face in the flea market battle. Rolling Eyes

Of course, but aren't most Mordheimers using Skaven and Chaos warbands. Wink
