 Three games tonight with a new Lizardmen warband

Sorry this is so long, but it is three games. I tried to get all the details right, but I did not take great notes on the games. Here goes:

Tonight I started a new Lizardmen warband. My list consisted of:
Heroes:
Skink Priest (short bow, bolas, helmet, free dagger)
Saurus Totem Warrior (Sword, free dagger, light armor, shield, helmet)
Skink Great Crest (short bow, bolas, free dagger, sword)
Skink Great Crest (short bow, bolas, free dagger, sword)

Henchmen
Skink Brave (short bow, free dagger)x1
Kroxigor

I took this group because I was wondering how the Kroxigor would work in the earlier games. I faced off against a Black Orc warband that consisted of:

Heroes:
Black Orc Boss ( Light Armor,Shield)
Black Orc Hero 1 (light armor, two choppas, bow)
Black Orc Hero 2 (two choppas)

Henchmen:
Orc boy archer x2

We played three games. The first game was surprise attack. I was the attacker. The black orcs were deployed near the center of the board. One of his archers was on the left of the table and one at the bottom. Both were on the second floor of buildings.

When I deployed, I came in on the bottom. I deployed two skink great crests next to the archer near the bottom. The rest I lined up so that it blocked line of site on the second archer.

Turn 1: I charged both skink great crests into the archer. Everyone else moved up in a mad dash to the middle. The two skink great crests rolled horribly on the attacks on the archer. The archer in turn rolled horribly as well. No wounds, however, when the archer tried his alone test, he failed. Running away, one skink great crest took him out of action.

On his turn, he moved his guys up closer to the middle of the board and shot at the Kroxigor with no wounds.

Turn 2: The Kroxigor charged into combat with the Black Orc Hero 1. Rolled 2 2s and 1 1 for the hits. The Black Orc caused one wound on the Kroxigor.
I moved everyone else up toward combat.

On his turn, he charged his boss into the Kroxigor and took it out of action with a Crit of 5 (2 wounds +2 on injury table).

Turn 3: After the Kroxigor is out of action, I feel like this is going to be a loss so I charge the priest into Black Orc 2. The saurus into his Black 1 (thinking it was his boss). The skink takes a shot at the other archer, but misses. Combat for me was non effective. No wounds and the saurus was knocked down.

On his turn, he took the Saurus out of action. His boss charged the skink priest. He then failed all his attacks on my priest. My priest, in turn failed to do any real damage to him as well.

I conceded and voluntarily routed.

Post-game results:
Kroxigor fully recovered (I was worried about this).
Saurus Totem warrior was captured by the black Orcs. I then was able to gain his release with all the gc that I earned in the game. I was left with 4 gc.

1 skink great crest leveled up (due to the kill): Of course, he gained +1 Leadership.
The single skink brave got ‘Lads got talent!’ Then gained a skill (quick shot).


Second Game:

This time I had all 5 non-Kroxigor models as heroes. He added one additional archer as well as a lad’s got talent to raise an archer to a hero. This time, we rolled skirmish as the battle.

He got the first turn. He put his archers all in buildings while running his heroes up to fight. I moved the Kroxigor forward and chased it with everyone else.

Long story short, I took out enough of his heroes (in combat with the Kroxigor and the saurus) to make him voluntarily rout.

Post-game results:
I gained enough gc to purchase 3 skink braves and short bows for them.

Saurus Totem warrior leveled up and took Toughened Hide (only out of action on a 6+)

Third Game:

This time, we rolled Wyrdstone Hunt. There were 3 Wyrdstones to be found in the ruins. One on my side, one on his side and one dead in the middle of the board.

Turn 1:
He got the first turn this time. He moved his guys up. My superior speed allowed me to get to out maneuver him.

This time, I had the Lad pick up the Wyrdstone on my side. I then rushed him and the henchmen forward a few inches. I run the Kroxigor and the other skink heroes forward 12 inches each (since shooting was out of range). I also moved the suarus up 8 inches.

Turn 2:
He moved his boss into contact with the Wyrdstone near his side. He moved everyone else up and took some shots (rolling 1s on almost every shooter’s to hit or wound roll).

On my turn, I charged the Kroxigor into combat with his boss. I then charged a skink great crest into a black orc. The Kroxigor failed to wound his boss. The skink great crest was knocked down by the black orc. I moved everyone else a little closer.

Turn 3:
In the combat with his boss, he failed to wound the kroxigor. The kroxigor then stunned the boss. The black orc faild to injure the skink great crest.

On my turn, I charged the saurus totem warrior into the into the combat with the skink that was down. I charged the second great crest into the combat with the Orc boss. The saurus took out the black orc on the skink and the other skink allocated a wound the black orc boss, taking him out of action.

Post-game:
Priest leveled and gained a spell (had a useless one and gained a movement spell almost as useless).
The Lad gained +1 toughness
A Skink great crest gained +1 toughness.

The skink braves gained +1 str.

I then spent the gc I earned on 3 saurus braves with axes.

In three games, my warband rating jumped from 97 to 149! Good times, great fun.

Ok, after the huge wins last night, I faced a Beastmen warband that was 40 points lower than my Lizardmen. The battle was Treasure Hunt. Ultimately, I used up all of my good will with the Dice Gods last night. I ended up losing the Saurus Totem warrior and the Kroxigor as casualties!

I will try to save up for another Kroxigor though, as I enjoyed the speed at which it could engage enemy models.

Big nasties like minotaurs, kroxigors, and the like are VERY powerful when starting out. They seem well worth the investment at first, and by the time they lose effectiveness, your heroes step up to fill the void. Do you have any pics of your models painted?
