Vampires and Frenzy Empty
PostSubject: Vampires and Frenzy   Vampires and Frenzy Icon_minitimeSat 9 Jun 2012 - 5:36

Can a vampire become frenzied?

Vampires are immune to psychology, and frenzy is listed under psychology. One phrase even refers to "other" forms of psychology.

We have a vampire that got frenzy permanently as part of a mutation and she went from 3+1 attacks to 6+1 attacks. It seems to me that part of the reason vampires start with an extra attack is to make up for the fact that they can't benefit from frenzy.

Officially vampires cannot be affected by frenzy or stupidity in addition to not being affected by fear. Some gaming groups (like mine) house rule to allow vampires (and dwarf troll slayers, etc) to become frenzied or stupid because it adds extra gaming options.

In regards to frenzy, some people house rule that it simply adds +1 Attack instead of doubling the base Attack characteristic. My gaming group hasn't used this house rule but my gaming group has yet to encounter a 6+1 Attack brute. Laughing

Lemming's nailed it on the head. For good or ill, Immune to Psychology is just that, so Frenzy does not affect the Vampire (my guess is their will is too strong.) Besides, aren't Vampires usually combat beasts enough? Laughing

I'm wrong. It must have been from Madness on the serious injury chart. A vampire gets mutations from using wyrd stones from the "Power in the Stones" rules.

My minotaur goes into frenzy almost every game after that first kill, with a 2h weapon 6 attacks at s6 is something to stay away from and "shoot it with the big guns" as my dwarf counterpart always says :p

In regards to your Vamp, we play that he can't be subject to stupid or frenzy, although I agree with the others who say house rule it

A House Rule is always an option. But I say Immune means Immune. I wouldn’t believe it fair to the other players/bands if one player/character can pick a bonus and reject a penalty for the same reason. If you going to House Rule to allow “Frenzy”, then by fairness “Stupidly” should also be allowed. Better yet, just drop the “Immune” ability, and let the Vamp take its chances.

Also, if a Vamp is Immune to Poisons, is he also immune to the affects of drugs or the penalties of drugs?

I'm not sure whom your fairness comment is directed at. The only poster to mention a house rule specifically cited the official rules first, then gave a reason for a house rule and included subject to stupidity as part of the house rule. I'm missing the 'unfair' post on this thread...

As for the vampire and drugs; the rulebook specifically lists the Vampire as one of the models unaffected by Madcap Mushrooms, Mandrake Root and Crimson Shade and Tears of Shallaya mentions it doesn't affect Undead.

The “fairness” comment was not directed to anyone specifically, but a general comment to anyone deciding the make a House Rule for it. My apologies for any confusion, no disrespect was intended. I have noticed that players, when a rule is disliked, comes up with a House Rule to gain which ever benefit desired. I was just stating, if a benefit from a category is given then equally the penalty from the same category should also be allowed for fairness to the other players at the table.

Your point is a good one. I sometimes feel the consequences of house rules are like a puppy chasing his tail. Doesn't stop me from trying them out of course, but I'm often amazed at the unintended consequence.

I'd say it depend on your type of play.

In a narrative campaign I have no problem to see a vampire become frenzy, hateful or stupid...But by the rules its not possible.

Its another grey area of Mordheim... I think the game designers did not wanted the vampire to be be immune to THAT kind of psychology but by the rule they are.
