I picked this up toady at Hobby Lobby. I'm going to pop out the portrait and use it as an ornate church doorway.

That will make a very distinctive portal...EXCELLENT FIND! Some of the settings for filigreed brooches & such make fine looking wall decorations, mirror, etc. You could actually build the church around something like that. thumbsup

The work of putting the roof on the inn is going on right now. Lots and lots of boxes make hundreds and hundreds of roofing tiles. Combine that with dozens of hours and a lot of glue and patience. There are in total 20 different roof surfaces, with a lot of custom cut angles everywhere two roof surfaces meet.

The end result is worth the effort...keep telling yourself that clown . The roof really does look good, although the ruined buildings with their mostly-gone style of roofing have a new appeal for moi. GREAT WORK! thumbsup

That is the Mother of All Roofs...you might want expand on the "Mother" part. All the angles that make it interesting also make it a pain to finish. It does looks FANTASTIC...SO the time & effort paid off. WONDERFUL WORK! thumbsup

So, how about a little bit of creating windows?

I make the frames easy enough out of balsa strips and ca glue. Leaded glass is the trick though.

I'll start with wire mesh. I cover the inside part of the mesh with clear tape. Next I work Woodland Scenics water effects into the mesh on the side opposite of the tape. After 24 hours has passed and the W.E. is dry, I carefully pull the tape off and presto! a sheet of leaded glass, ready to be cut and glued into the frames. You can totally make it into stained glass by coloring it with felt tip markers.

I've finally gotten the basic woodwork done on the coaching inn. It's a big building, so it took a lot of time, but I'm happy with it. Supporting columns and shutters, that kind of stuff will all go on after paint, it's just easier not having to paint around them. Up next I'll do the plaster, that shouldn't be more than an hour or so worth of work, then it's off to paint.

Your window construction is really nifty and looks great, do you mind if I borrow some of the method for a future project?
