PostSubject: Hi!   Hi! Icon_minitimeMon 26 Mar 2012 - 10:35

I'm Louise, 29 years old and living in Denmark. I've been playing Mordheim for... a month and a half or something like that, and I'm currently working on my very first warband.

I have a background in LARP and P&P and a fondness for non-hero characters. Still, I like my XP as much as the next guy Wink. My fiancé and I recently moved out in the middle of nowhere and decided to start a Mordheim campaign - we had to do something to lure our friends away from the big city... A few games and I was hooked, and we now have big plans for our small country campaign Very Happy

So, a newbie in more than one way... I realize most of you are pros compared to me. My painting will most likely be mediocre and - yes - I had help transforming a box of Empire Archers into something non-standard. But I'm having fun - and I promise to be humble if I ever work up the courage to post pics Wink

Hey Louise!

In the (adapted) words of H.G. Wells in "Little Wars", Welcome to Mordheim, "A Game for Boys from twelve years of age to one hundred and fifty and for that more intelligent sort of girl who likes boys' games and books"

As a representant of 'that more intelligent sort of girl' WELCOME to Tom's Boring Mordheim Forum! May your fondness for non heroic characters last forever and bring you much FUN!

Haha! I'm used to be a minority Smile - thank you for your kind words!

And if anyone is interested in seeing where a non-heroic fondness can take you, I've just posted the background on my Reiklander warband: https://boringmordheimforum.forumieren.com/t6339-the-hunting-party

Sir Nicholas is, of course, the leader.
Matthew and Thomas are my champions.
John and Robin are my youngbloods.

And addition there will be three units of marksmen: The Hawks, The Falcons, and The Ravens. And - if I can manage to find suitable miniatures - three warhounds, where one will be two-tailed and named Sigmar... Wink

Oh, 6 posts and I'm already there... I love how this forum is somewhat active, though. There is nothing worse than forums with fortnight posting intervals Smile

That said, I'd wish I could overcome my fear of commenting in the gallery section. I still have the newbie flaw of not being able to distinguish between a sub-standard paintjob on a detailed miniature and a great paintjob on a rough one. I don't want to be 'that girl' complementing on rushed work - still I'd love to give creds to those, who's done a great job. It's easier with terrain - most of us start with cardboard boxes and a vision Wink

-shrug- the way I see it, if you like something and comment on it then it's a good thing regardless of what others think, nobody is going to call you out for encouraging/giving feedback to people ^^

Hi Shelena - welcome to the forum! Don't worry about painting skills - they will develop. Best thing is to look at what others are doing on the forum. And of course ask questions.

On the commentary question: if you like something, by all means leave a commentary/compliment/critique or piece of advice. There is NOTHING quite so motivating as receiving commentary on the pieces you've labored so lovingly over; AND, conversely, there is NOTHING quite so disheartening as posting photos & receiving no notice from your Fellow Forum Folk.
A mini/building/whatever can be oh-so-cool, incredibly inspiring, wildly imaginative, & still not be a great piece of modeling/painting. If it makes you smile, causes you to stop for a moment to admire it, or even just try to figure it out, it's earned a word or two & a moment of your time...SO post a comment, pro or con it will be appreciated. clown

Thanks guys! This must be one of the most newbie friendly forums I have joined Smile - and of course you're right!

I may not be able to judge the quality of a paintjob, but I can always leave a comment saying how a model inspired me. That is good advice! Smile

Greetings from the south Texas wilderness, Louise, and welcome to Tom's. Don't spread this around, but I have never actually found the place to be boring at all. And, as you have noticed, it really is a very friendly forum, and not just in the say-hello-to-the-new-folks section, either.

Reiklanders, hmmm? Good choice. I have probably run more Reiklander warbands than anything, through the years. My favorite of them all were "the Pistoliers", a group of pistol specialists led by a renegade ex-Sister of Sigmar. They were fun (and pretty successful).

The plastic archers box is a nice, versatile box. I am using some of those figures for a Kislivite warband I am painting for a friend. Do you have the "Empire Militia" boxed set? If not, it is worth picking up. It is composed of the original Mordheim "human mercenaries" sprues, and it is a great set for building characterful models.

I don't have the actual box, but my fiance has a bits box containing some of the parts. I've used two of the crossbows, if I'm not mistaken. But for a Hunting Party (that's the theme for my Reiklanders) leftovers from a Bretonnian Men-at-Arms box turned out to be golden. It includes tons of bags and pouches with birds Smile

My first two henchmen are as good as painted - I'm currently working on the eyes. God, I hate eyes! I ended up using a very simple colour scheme, including five kinds of brown, two kinds of black, grey, and three kinds of flesh. And the bases will be autumn-ish. Perhaps not the most frequently used colours used for Reiklanders, but hey! I'm a newbie - I'm allowed Wink

Eyes are a pain, no kidding.

My Reiklanders, who double as militia for my Empire army, tend to be black and cream. But my wood elves and the Kislivites I am working on for a friend are painted in autumn colors.

Leaf scatter works nicely with figures painted in Autumn colors:

That's a great webshop (and not placed in the US)! I will definitely order stuff from this for our terrain. Thanks!
