Hey ho peeps,

Quick Opinion/discussion point...

I'm looking at running a campaign in my local area and I am trying to put together a document with all the house rules/changes we will be rolling with.

I know that at least one person will be playing witch hunters and they have asked me to change the starting equipment lists to include Brazier Irons for heroes + Flaggelants (with the justification that allot of GW models come with them, but you have to really go out of your way to use them.) and to allow Sigmarite Warhammers for the Warrior Priest (since this just feels "right" and they have access to them in other settings etc).

He also argues that the core idea behind witch hunters is a small warband that is better equipped than normal mercs, but if we are using standard rules, mercs actually have a much wider choice of equipment and can easily "out equip" them. He feels that adding their special equipment from the beginning will help give them their edge back...

I'm torn on the subject, he makes compelling arguments, but I am worried about making them too powerful. What are your opinions on the subject?

I would add the sigmarite hammer to the Warrior priest only, but the braziers are too powerful for henchmen in my opinion. Maybe make it so Flagelent heroes can use them?

At our place we play as basic as possible or everyone wants changes made based on fluff. But ofc you are free to play however you like!

That said I wouldnt add anything simply because they dont need it. They are strong enough as is.

First of all braziers would/WILL ruin his pocket. Flagg with brazier sounfs tempting, but he's 75 gc. That's almost two "naked" flagellants! Besides, it would be imposible to add new flaggs to exisiting group later on, since 75 (not mentioning rar7 roll and money for experience) is a lot of money. Even if used by witch hunters brazier is really expensive and he would realise that he argued for a weapon he wouldn't be using much (or at all). But yes, I would put braziers on equipment list. What does he mean by "allot of GW models come with them"? As far as I recall there's none model with a brazier. If he's talking about classic mordheim witch hunters - they are not braziers, just torches with iron shafts and baskets. That's what I think. The only model with a "brazier" is a bright wizard configuration from warhammer Empire.
About hammers: why not? It won't break the game, I think. And you're playing beastmen - very powerful warband...
My group however in our first campaign, will be using almost raw rules. Just to find out how much warbands/rules needs changing.

how about letting them access torches as well/instead of brazier iron because that would fit with the GW models

Does he want a discount as well as the addition to the starting equipment? I think they would be fine for heroes to start because they are so expensive. If he takes some, he's going to be hurting somewhere else. Numbers are already a starting Witch Hunter problem, expensive equipment makes it worse.

Otherwise they are Witch Hunter only so if he wants them, even for a Flagellant hero, he can get them later in the campaign.

Thanks for all the responses guys.

I should probably have mentioned that his main reason for wanting these weapons included in the warband equipment list is so that they are capable of using them without having to take the Weapon Master skill, not necessarily equipping them with the starting roster.

I guess it does seem strange that the brazier iron is about the only weapon I can think on that is limited to a single warband, but that warband in question can't actually use it. It's a bit like saying "Hey these dudes use this specialist equipment/weapon all the time." but then when it's handed to them they look at it and exclaim "Deeeeerp?" o.O

I spoke to him about the warhammer/priest issue and put forward the idea that if he wanted the sigmarite hammers I would stipulate that we add an additional weapons list (since currently the WP picks his equipment from the heroes list) that only includes melee weapons, the sigmarite hammers and armour. I've always been surprised the number of people who give their WP crossbows/pistols, it feels so out of character, so maybe replacing these options with the sigmarite hammer would be acceptable?

I feel that adding torches to the starting list, while characterful, wouldn't really matter in the long run. I predict that nobody would pick them in a starting warband and it's easy enough to pick them up and use them after a game or two if you really want them.

Rapier and Hammer of Withces are the same story...
In witch settings are Sigamrite Warhammers available to Warrior Priests?
