| First of all, excuse my bad English. Excellent work but... isn't the material too fragile? If somebody pushes too strong on a mini, will it damage the table or not? I tried to make such a table years ago but this was too fragile to me (and a pain in the ass to create!). Does a secret exist to find high density version of the material you use or is it just that my friends are too strong and brutal? Talking about your masterpiece, it reminds me some backgrounds you can find in the very good french comic book called "De Cape et de Crocs". | |

| That's a cool comic with real poetry and nice duels scenes (the characters are fighting with swords and with words, like Cyrano de Bergerac). Highly inspirational comic book indeed! In english, you'll find it under the title of "Cloak and fang", I think! - Wiki wrote:
- De cape et de crocs[1] is a French comic book swashbuckling series, created by writer Alain Ayroles and artist Jean-Luc Masbou. It is notable for its many references to classical culture and occasional nods to modern references.
The comic draws inspiration from many literary classics, like Cyrano de Bergerac and Molière's works, but also from many classic fables, fairy tales, and even modern pop-culture.
As allusions to modern culture, writer Alain Ayroles notably mentions a pastiche of Andy Warhol's painting; architectural features alluding to Jules Verne and Space: 1999; and an explicit attempt to recreate the atmosphere of Alien (to which it is further alluded when Prince Jean is said to have planned to exile his brother into deep space "so that none shall hear him scream").
Allusions to classical culture are plentiful; writer Alain Ayroles notably mentions Bombastus drawing in the fashion of da Vinci, Hobbes' Leviathan and Rabelais.
The albums of the series are organised into "Acts", rather than tomes.
Many dialogues are written in alexandrines, though the typography does not always underline this feature. Link talking about this "bande dessinée"

| GREAT work. I attempted(and I STRESS the word attempted) to do something similar to your boards quite a few years ago. My work looked like a toddler's work compared to yours. | |

| Newest building in the previous post.
Thank you all for your continued encouragement.
Hellspawn - the only bits I might describe as fragile are the thin blue foam walls but there are not many of these and they will eventually be braced or reinforced in some way. Also the textured exterior wall paint that I use should seal and protect the foam areas. The timber framed buildings are made of foamboard so are really robust. Thanks for telling me about that amazing comic book, it looks like just my cup of tea!

| This is one thread im always look out for. To see how the board grows out of foam is simply glorious. You make it look so easy and effortless and it looks really good. As Christian said, so many odd little angles and levels.
We need an update on this soon! Need...More...Inspiring...Photos

| Thank-you all so much for your encouraging comments. Kev - I should tell you that a great deal of consideration goes into the arrangement of my model, and as this is really only my first major project, I’m still learning the skills as I go. If the production looks as effortless and serene as a swan gliding along, I can assure you that the feet are paddling like mad under the water! I’ve had a few transport issues over the past few weeks that have cut down on my spare time, but I’m sorted now so I promise to reward your interest with some updates over the coming days. In the meantime I thought I'd tell you a bit about the general plan for the whole board. The plan was to have four, two foot square modular sections comprised of two canal sections; one market square and one coaching inn section. I have six MDF baseboards cut ready so I have two spares if I want to add any sections later on. The four sections are roughly planned out: the other canal section will be dominated by an island with a water mill, the island will have a level accessible from the road level and another from canal level. Also in this section I plan to have a fairly long section of road on the upper level running along the canal side with an arched walkway below. The Coaching inn section will have a large partially caved-in courtyard revealing the beer cellars beneath. There will be a few streets surrounding the inn. The Market square will be bordered by tall, mostly ruinous buildings with multiple level walkways (inspired by the shopping arcades in the city of Chester), I’m considering having the square itself on a sunken level in which case the centre piece may be a fountain or well, or if not sunken then maybe a market hall on pillars – although I have to be careful not to crowd too many tall buildings into this one as it will make access difficult. I’ve calculated that the four sections and road/canal layout should allow me 26 different four foot square layouts. I plan to build each section to completion before starting on the next, but leave the painting until all four boards are constructed so the base colours will match up. | |

| I can only concur with everyones praises.
We really look forward to seeing more updates as you get more time to work in the board again. And you plan sounds really good. The mill and the beer cellars sounds especially interesting to me.
Ill be here reloading the page until then.
kev singing out. | |
