| Hi all Got bit by the Warhammer Fantasy bug last summer and been playing, modelling and painting as often as I can find time for it since. Some local players in the community wanted to start up a Mordheim campaign (https://boringmordheimforum.forumieren.com/t6085-the-spring-that-never-were) and I'm going to give Mordheim a try as well. My warhammer army is limited to Warriors of Chaos, so my choice of warband seems pretty straightforward: Marauders of Chaos. Got models and bits 'n pieces to make a couple of interesting models. As I said, never played Mordheim before. The campaign limit is 500gc so I've drafted a list of sorts without really knowing what to expect. I do like the idea of sending my warhounds forward with their good movement while the rest comes after to mop up the leftovers, or use the dogs as a shield of sort. That's my initial thoughts. Here's the list. Any advice is most welcome Chieftain - 95c Hammer - 3 gc Sword - 10gc 118gc Seer (not chosen any mark yet) - 45gc Hammer - 3 gc Sword - 10gc 58 gc Champion - 45gc Hammer - 3gc Hammer - 3gc 51gc Champion - 45gc Barbed Whip - 15gc Hammer - 3gc 63gc Condemned - 55gc 5 x warhounds - 75gc Marauder - 35gc Hammer - 3gc Hammer - 3gc 41gc Marauder - 35gc Axe - 5gc 40gc TOTAL 499

| First rule in Mordheim warband making: always max out your heroes. They gain experience faster, have the best survival rate, and GIVE YOU MORE EXPLORATION DICE, which means more money. That's the reason why a lot of players whine about the skaven being overpowered- they start with 6 heroes, making them get resources much faster.
Oh, and welcome to the board!

| I agree with StrofoamKing completely about always starting with all allowed starting heroes. I am not familiar with the warband you have chosen, so no additional suggestions - but welcome to the forum and good luck in the campaign!

| Going Norse? If you go Kurgan you could drop a pair of warhounds and pick up some bows for a little ranged firepower just in case you need it. Otherwise I think this would be a good first warband. Just make sure you have plenty of Terrain. Otherwise elves, dwarfs, Reiklanders etc will chew you up at range before you can close.
Also, make sure you learn the hiding rules.
I've played a Tchar themed Norse warband before a little. The extra spell on my Seer was useful.

| Yep, Norse was my initial idea. Kurgan also looks interesting due to the very lacking shooting options you have with the Norse. I know for certain that there will be alot of elves in the campaign, so I guess I really should rely on hiding as best as I can whenever possible. I imagine I'll learn it the hard way Had a closer look at the different spells, but being new to the game, not quite sure what's good to have. Tchar seems to be focused on gaining more xp and using this. The first spell even rewards not casting spells at all. Isn't that just a waste? Onagals rituals seems more direct damage related and could be a potential substitiute for the lack of shooting. Shornall a mix of hexes while undivided is also some direct damage but also a light mix of other stuff. Decisions, decisions | |

| I never even consider Onagal! Doesn't fit with my image of tall healthy manly norse marauders coming down and pillaging in the name of Tchar.
But spell choice I say should be based on your theme more than gameplay reasons. More fun that way!
I give my Seer a banner (counts as club) and the whip and the Mark of Tchar. I have no problem with him not casting spells some games. But other times I want him to so it is a good trade off. The whip allows him to stay out of direct combat (until he's ready) and still provide bonus to my wolves. I use Goblin wolves for my warhounds as I wanted to try to keep it Norse themed.
The first few games will be rough as you are learning the rules and shooting will mess you up. But survive those and use the warhounds to your advantage and you will do fine.
