PostSubject: Which Warband?   Which Warband? Icon_minitimeTue 11 Feb 2014 - 10:01

I'm picking this game up since my hobby shop decides to host them. I've scrolled through the http://home.deds.nl/~mordheim/MordheimRulebook.pdf and I counted about 30 warbands. I have no idea which warband does what so I'd like some help on that front.

Failing that, I'd like to know which warband is the best for running up to the enemy and beat the living crap out of them. Extra points if they're hard to kill.

Edit: Alternatively, being able to run up and kill them before they touch me is also good.

In this case I´d suggest Cult of the Possessed or even better Beastmen, Maybe Norse Explorers Smile

I second Beastmen. They are strong and resilient plus they have speed and great models.

Other good choices would be Witch Hunters (flagellants are powerful), Possessed, and Carnival of Chaos.

All the aforementioned seem good at that. From what I gather, Dwarfs and Chaos Dwarfs seem quite strong and resilient. You may want to check them out.

I'd third Beastmen; they are strong in melee, fast, and hard to kill - pretty much hitting everything you're looking for. The models are also relatively easy to get a hold of, if that's a concern.

Possessed are fun to play and model, but they can be a bit difficult starting out due to the high cost of their heroes.

I'd suggest that you would get a better reaction to this thread if it was in the Rules & Game Play Section. If you give me the go ahead, I'll move it for you.   What a Face

For pure melee warbands, the above mentioned Beastmen (Town Cryer 29 or Mordheim Annual 2002 version) or Cult of the Possessed are great choices. I'd like to add Undead to the cast as well - vampire and his dire wolves are very fast and deadly, and almost every model in the warband causes fear. Especially useful, if you play against low leadership warbands such as the Skaven.

I'd advise you to read the proper rules instead of that "updated" rulebook. It surfaces every now and then, and contains official rules, "balanced" rules, fan-made rules and everything else combined into one book. It's not the official version, and it tends to create more problems than it solves. All the official rules can be found e.g. at RationalLemming's wonderful OneDrive-repository.

At 8 months after posting, I would hope that OP has managed to pick a warband by now
