So ive been looking at rolling out an undead warband (love the fluff), can people please critique my starting list:

Vampire - Bow, Sword, Mace
Necromancer - Bow
Dreg - Mace, Mace
Dreg - Hammer, Hammer
Dreg - Mace, Mace

Ghouls x5
Zombie x1

Warlock

Rating = 99

Thanks!

(I did post about a reiklander warband.. which may still happen at some point - but im considering using the models for a different game, so thanks for the feedback from that!)

I don't know how you're doing on extra gold, but I'd drop the bow from the necromancer and give him a sword, as he can only shoot or cast a spell in a given turn. However, if you know that his spell is not going to be used often, then at least give him a second dagger.

On the dregs, I'd replace their second, duplicate weapon, with an ax or a sword, so that they can parry or negate armor saves. You may consider dropping the zombie, who may have difficulty keeping up with the rest of the band, to afford all that.

Other than that, you have a good starting number and some solid close combat - it should be good.

You have a good warband for your first game. I don't like to start with Hired Swords until I get 6 heroes, but I find it works on occasion especially if I am hiring to strengthen an weak area or support a strength.

I usually use a zombie to guard the necromancer or act as a shield for him if he is acting as a shooter.

You can wait until your next game or later to upgrade equipment. The dual clubs/maces/hammers will serve the dregs well enough.

So I played two games last night with varied results. My first game was against some
Possessed which I managed to win (scenario was street fight). I dropped the bow on my necro and went with a sword which was a great idea. I also did dropped the zombie to buy 2 dregs a sword (parry is pretty amazing). I had two core groups - 3 ghouls and my lock - then vamp / necro / dregs and 2 ghouls. The first team managed to take down 3 models in total, ghouls swamping stuff was really satisfying. My vamp was incombat with a beastman for 4/5 round of combat ( mixture of misses and a piece of armour that just cudnt be penetrated. All my dregs went down but survived. Now... The necro was on fire, took down 2 and overall caused alot of key damage. I did lose 1 ghoul Sad

Next game wasn't so great - it was a pit fight with max 300gc which was made up from beginning cost+experience per model so I took all 5 heroes. Aain the necro took out a fair few and was there till almost the end. Vamp did 'ok' but I think I nes to learn how to play against skaven properly... Dregs did better, one gained the fear giving injury. We also did double xp on this which was great for me!

I got 5 shards from it all so 83gc will get me a ghoul and last sword fort 3rd dreg. Really enjoyed it so thanks or the help!

As it stands ----

Vampire - Sword, Hammer, Bow - 1 advance -
Necro - Sword - 2 advances! -
Dregs - Sword, Hammer - - 1 advance -

Ghouls - No Advance
Lock - No Advance

what kind of rules did you use for the pit fight? Sounds interesting. Your necromancer seems incredibly useful, when I tried vampires mine was the most useless Smile

May I suggest this thread be moved to battle reports and fluff? Smile

The pit fight rules we used are :-

300 gold to spend on current warband
Base cost of each model + their current experience + equipment = cost

Xp is doubled

Works well- people with higher ratings get normal xp, it's beengood from the one game I've had, boosts for the heroes Very Happy
