| New here, came over here from the Warseer forums. I've played 40k since 2nd edition and played both 40k and Fantasy up until 6th edition of Fantasy. After a long break from miniature gaming.. I'm back. Essentially got back into it because my girlfriend wanted to get into the hobby and while neither of us have the time to go the scale of any of the Warhammer games.. we think Mordheim is perfect. So here I am, first time even getting into it. We've decided on Undead (me) and Lizardmen (her, pretty much why she even got into the hobby.. loved the models). Looking forward to read through some resources here. | |

| Welcome to Mordheim. This is the game for the two of you. As your new to the game and probably have not played before i'll throw out a few things. 1: see fi you can find some other local players to expand your base, then you guys can even get some 2v2 games going. there is a thread (thats hard to find witch is too bad) to find other players https://boringmordheimforum.forumieren.com/t659-boring-player-locations2: As your GF loves the Lizardmen i'm sure she won't change warbands, but there is a chance you may change (and her too; not like she can't proxy in lizardmen for other guys or just collect to collect and paint them) I recomend that you guys try out the rules at the end of the Rule Book for "Single Battles" to test out some Warbands. you don't have to worry about the end game exploration, experiance, or "death" but do get to see how warbands play. It also will let you two get a few games in faster to experament with warband set up/equipment and get rules down for game play so it's more simple. enjoy your stay in our fare city called Mordheim! | |

| Thanks everyone. We already have secondary warbands planned out as well. I may also have 2 additional people getting in. One will got Dwarf, the other Possessed. My girlfriend wants to collect Skaven as well and I'll either go humans, orcs, or either of the elves.
I have a quick question about starting.. I notice that when we start a warband.. it notes that generally a leader starts with 20xp. Does this mean (according to the roster charts) that I get to roll for stats/skills 8 times for him (based on running across 8 dark boxes) or am I completely missing something?
Also would like to add... I've read through the forums here and I've also come to the same conclusion that it seems like Undead is kind of lacking in fun. I downloaded the "Unofficial" Rulebook compilation and the list in there also includes Zombie Troll.. anyone use that? I might also consider just hiring an Ogre just to add variety. Lastly.. I really like the Grave Guard and Skeleton models.. and it'd be a huge shame to never use these. Any fair rules that incorporate both these units into the Undead list while still retaining everything else? If it comes out to be unfair, I can understand and don't want to go that route, but if anyone else has tried them with good balance, I'd wanna give it a try as well.

Rules questions get quicker answers in the rules thread, but I'll try catch these to start. The 20 exp reflects the experience your leader has gained to become the leader. Those advances are part of his begining stats. So no rolling for extra if you follow the rules. Some folks have played that you do roll for those to add beef to the leader, but that is a house rule. Undead not fun? I haven't had that problem. However if you want alternate undead warbands you can invent the wheel yourself or play one of the many unofficial warbands out there. There are-- Blood Dragons from that cursed city in Bretonnia Lahmians from Khemri: Land of the Dead Strigoi form Karak Azul or some such Dwarf hold. Necrarchs from the Sylvania setting An undead warband from BTB Towb Guardians from Khemri Adding a Ogre Bodyguard is always recommended for punch. Skeletons appear in the Lahmian warband, the Necrarch warband and the Tomb Guardians (which also feature Grave Guard). Feel free to experiment, although if you are just starting the game I would recommend playing it as is once or twice before you amend it.

| another option to going and using skellies is to just use them but call them Ghouls. Use the same rules and roll with it. Undead is undead after all | |

| Thanks for all the input. We ended up rolling the stats for all our starting heroes.. guess we'll just continue from there. Didn't realize if going strictly by the rules, you leave the first black boxes alone.
I played Strigoi back in 6th edition, where can I find the rules for them? For now, I will most likely stick to the standard list but mix skeletons and zombies for the time being. I have Ghoul models. My leader model is the Ghoul King from the new Zombie Dragon model.

| Welcome to the forum! I think you will like Mordheim. Everyone I have introduced to the game has enjoyed it, including some people who had no previous experience with miniature games.
My wife also loves the lizardmen models.
