Thanks a lot, everybody!

Nah, I'll be moving to Berlin, sorry! Smile

If there's more than one interested then I can surely write a tutorial about my roofs...

Alright then. I'll try to write a little tutorial.

Here's a little update: I've been working on the roofing...

So the roof looks like this:

I also added a wooden floor to the building:

Everything has been base-coated now so the next updates will be in full colour! Very Happy

That's a VERY IMPRESSIVE roof, and the floor is beautifully done. It is incredible how your work keeps getting better & BETTER. The Mysterious East comes to life in Berlin, HOW COOL! Cathayan Monk 2

Update! The Cathayan house is finished:

[Give the following image some time to load completely]

The house was so easy to build that I actually built two of them. The second is still missing a roof, though.

EXCELLENT WORK, cianty Khan!thumbsup

Beyond being GREAT models, you, captured the feel of Mysterious Cathay. All the different elements fit together so beautifully. AND, like all yor other posts the presentation is INCREDIBLY well done. You are ONE TALENTED DUDE who puts a LOT of thought AND effort into everything he does. What's next, bunky!Suspect

Thanks a lot, guys! What I like about the buildings and the wall pieces is that you can arrange them in a number of ways. However, I'll show you next time what I actually had in mind, when building them.

For now some more random pics:

Wow, Cianty! They look awesome! Great job as usual..

I'm really looking forward to see the second one finished, and perhaps more buildings? Do you have any plans yet? Smile

Yes, there is much more in the making. Have a look:

Defence Wall
Maybe you remember the walls from page 1-2. I built a balustrade for the middle wall to create a huge defence wall piece to connect the buildings. There are doors on the first floor of the houses specifically for this. Again I used wooden stirring staffs and other left over material I had. Enjoy!

Work in progress

Finished

For those of you who got here I have a little sneak peek of what is coming next (click on the spoiler).

Spoiler:

Ah, The Devious Oriental Mind: making the scaffolding removeable makes the wall multipurpose, VERY CLEVER! AND a VERY nice piece of work!

The Crimson Tower is going to be MAGNIFICENT. Even in its unfinished form it's VERY impressive. How appropriate that this post raises you to a higher level of Forum-hood. INSPIRING WORK! AND WELL DONE AS ALWAYS!cheers thumbsup

The Crimson Tower

This will be the centrepiece of my Cathayan gaming table. It can be used for two scenarios from the Border Town Burning setting (three if you count in the Siege! special scenario). I started building this a long time ago (checking the BTB site I found a new entry dating back to September 7th, 2007!). I hope that this thread can motivate me to keep working on it more regularly. At least I wasn't unproductive in the meantime as you can see in the Cathayan borderlands thread. I will try to describe what I did chronologically though.

It began with a lot of sketches and calculating for the size. The sketches are nothing special so I didn't bother scanning them. So what I did is go shopping at a DIY store:

Then I had all the pieces for the walls and floors. Gluing the walls is rather simple. I did saw doors but didn't bother making holes for windows. That would have been way too time consuming. This is already crazy huge project for me. I'm sure I'll somehow make it look good in the end still Wink

Next up: the floor. Sawing the basic shape is not a problem, but I really hate making the floor because I have to drill a hole into it, open the fretsaw so I can move the saw blade through the hole and then "close" the fretsaw again. That's the only way I can saw the holes into the ground that are needed for warriors to enter each level (using a ladder).

This has to be done for each of the three levels and then we can have a first very rough look at what the tower might look like when it's finsihed.

You see, this building is freaking huge. My initial calculations have been near useless as I underestimated it's eventual size big time. Now if you can imagine some roofwork on it... Geez!

More updates coming soon!
Smile
