Question about animosity Empty
PostSubject: Question about animosity   Question about animosity Icon_minitimeTue 18 Jan 2011 - 23:31

I've posted this in the sticky topic for the rules questions but haven't gotten an answer.
With Orc animosity, a roll of 2-5 states they cannot do anything that turn besides yell at their mate. With a hero nearby, it's changed to 1-5, and it appears by the rule description that the Orcs can't move during these rolls.
I just wanted to know (as I can't find it anywhere) if they can move during the turn and if not, would an acceptable house rule/ interpretation be that a 2-5 is a normal move.

I just want this cleared up as it seems the Orcs are too busy yellin' at their mates than looting and pillaging Mord.

I'm not entirely sure what the purpose of the above thread is either. However I believe it is to collect rules ambiguities. "[m]ay do nothing else this turn," seems pretty clear. That orc may do nothing but "defend himself if attacked in hand-to-hand combat."

If you wish to play orcs without the animosity, there is LotR. Otherwise there are plenty of Mordheim warbands without such rules that are not orcs. You could count them as Skaven or Beastmen or even pirates if you so desire. If you want to house rule away the orcs' animosity that is up to you and your group.

As an old school orc and goblin player I see animosity as the cool thing about Warhammer and Mordheim rules, but to each his own. Question about animosity 665330

No no, I'll stick to the rules, it just seemed odd that only the four heroes could run around doing stuff while the orcs yelled at each other. It just seemed a bit one-sided to the enemy is all, but rules are rules so I'll try them out and if worst comes to worst, I'll use a different warband. Thanks Von Kurst.

Good show!

I tend to go with the flow with orcs and not worry greatly about animosity. Depending on your dice you will have some horrible games and some great games. Most often I find the boy I NEED will decide otherwise. I'd love to say I have a laugh every time the dice come up '1' but too many of my group frequent this forum to lie. However the Boyz entertain the heck out of me and have for years.

Now if you want to minimize the impact of animosity, keep your heroes between the ladz so they don't kill each other off. Once you've rolled a 1 followed by a 2-5 or 1-5 with a hero closest there's not much you can do but rely on T4 to see you through. thumbsup

You ARE reading the part that says "roll 1D6: on a roll of 1, roll on the chart below", right? This means that 1 out of 6 orc henchmen will squabble each turn, not 5/6ths.

The animosity rule gives the warband character. And, frankly, it helps tone them down. They are potentially a very nasty bunch.

I have played Orcs in the past, and I have to say when you roll well on Animosity and Squig movement your warband is unstopable. There is nothing like having a couple of your guys run 16 inches into battle from out of nowhere.

Also the Orc Boy is one of the best Henchmen for the money. Goblins are not bad, and they are cheap. The Same goes for squigs. Although I suggest that you only get 2 or 3 squigs to start with, not 5 they are great the first few games, but as time goes on and models with Exp get better they stay the same.

Sorry for the glacial reply, a combination of uni, forgetting my user name and password kept me away Sad

@Styrofoam king: I did read the rules, I know 1 was the squabble, 2-5 was not moving- he's yellin' so 5/6 times he's not really doing much

I've got no complaints, as the above posts have solidified the fact that animosity makes orcs orcs and goblins...well, not orcs.

I still not convinced you have completely got it right No-beard.. Shocked

You roll a D6 for each Orc or Goblin Henchman.
IF you roll a 1 you roll again on the animosity table.
If you roll 2-6 the Henchman will do whatever you want them to do.

You don't have to put up with Orcs standing around doing nothing but shout every turn of the game, as only one or two will roll that nasty 1 on any given turn. The rest will act normally.

What warboss said. The 1-fight, 2-5 squabble, 6 charge is what you roll for each orc henchman that rolled a one at the start of the turn.

Ah,

I must have misread/overlooked the bit about the first role of one. Embarassed
Thanks for that, I probably wouldn't have realised my misinterpretation. In future I think I'll triple check a paragraph I think is vague.

Playing as orcs ironically requires a lot of reading.
