Here we go, as promised. I got my wife to take pics of my best buildings this weekend, cause whenever I take pics of my stuff they suck...

This stable is from a very old citadel publication which gave detailed plans on how to build it. I made it back in 1997 while in college.

Next up is the Lions Den Inn. It was originally made for WFB so you can't go in it, which sucks for Mordheim cause it's so big. I was in a warhammer group a few years ago and each of us was given an odd piece of styrofoam and charged with making a building. Of the 5 of us I was the only one to finish his.

This is my first building made with Hirst Art blocks a couple years back. Man I love those Hirst Art bocks! The roof comes off and your models can go inside! What could be better!

Here is the next building I made with Hirst bocks. I had planned on making 4-6 of these for a WFB town but this is as far as I got. The roof comes off of this as well and I have a door which I should have tracked down for the pic, oh well. Inside there is a fireplace, nice and blackened with soot. Hmm I should have taken a pic of that also...

Ash's Scenery or Things I spend my free time on. SmallHouse01

This one I made from left over Hirst blocks. I wanted a cool 2 story building and this is what came of it. Also this one I cut individual tiles for the roof. It looks fantastic but I still feel like it took more effort than it was worth. The roof and the 2nd story are removable.

Ash's Scenery or Things I spend my free time on. 2StoryHouse01

Hope you like them. I also got some sweet pics of my ruined keep (my avatar). So as soon as I sort those out I'll post em up.

Ok, I just had to post pics of my ruined keep! I'm very proud of it! Very Happy

It's made from Hirst Art blocks, balsa wood, an MDF base, and sheet styrene/plasticard with a tile pattern around the outside. There are 5 levels! It stands almost a foot tall/ 30cm! You can get your hand in every level. It took me a whole month to build and paint. Enjoy! cheers

Got an update for you guys.

Here's the first building I specifically made for Mordheim. It sat only basecoated black and in pieces (so it could be painted) for the last 6 months or so. It had taken such a beating from being played on that it was looking very sad. This was finally enough to get me to paint it up.

These two buildings are from Flying Tricycle. My friend Mark bought and painted them. I put them together. The are made of bass wood with the details laser etched and cut. They are well worth the cash and were a blast to put together. Plus they are very playable in Mordheim.

Next is one I posted a while back unpainted. My friend Mark wanted to paint it and he did a wonderful job!

This last one is currently at Marks being painted. It looks a little weird in the picture since it was taken at an angle. It stands might tall at over 2 feet!! I can't wait to get it on the table painted up!

Those ARE SO COOL!
I LOVE the tall buildings: i.e., a LOT of swashbuckling possibilities there, PLUS they expand the gaming board vertically. Your take on the Town Cryer building is not only REALLY well done, it's SO MUCH better than the original. The weird towering building IS my personal favorite; it's has a TOTALLY strange Mordheim feel to it [strange is like my thing, man Suspect ]. Thanks for the update. VERY WELL DONE! thumbsup

Which kind of building are you refering to? The stone buildings are made of plaster. The wood buildings are from http://www.flyingtricycle.com/. The tall black tower and the brown multi-story townhouse are made from foamcore and balsa wood strips.

The http://www.hirstarts.com/ molds run an average of $34 us plus the cost of plaster. Well worth it in the long run. If you just want 1 or 2 buildings there are companys who will make a bunch of bricks for you and sell them as a building kit.

I have images of poor marksmen drooling as they run up that 2 foot tower, only to reach firing places to find

A) their over 30 inches from the table for shooting, or
B) their teams all been shot up and their fleeing, so the poor lads have to run all the way downa gain and off the table.

the work looks great, how sturdy is the huge 2 buildings at bottom of post?

Twisted Evil Twisted Evil There are ladders on each level so it's not super difficult to get up high. But will still take a few turns. We try to have lots of tall terrain to make a more dynamic table. For once you may be safer on the ground!

Duce wrote:

They are prettly light and quite strong. All the balsa trim helps to give it strength, plus plenty of glue. The wood glue I use works wonderfully on foam core. The tall building should be fine on the table. The base is big enough so it will take a good knocking to push it over.

In Europe, try Hirst Arts UK, run by Andy Slater. He is the dues ex machina over at TerraGenesis.

High terrain is great! It makes the game more 3 dimentinal, add some bridges to the different buildings and you got some verry exiting games with lots of warriors falling of balconys to theair doom and deadly diving charges! Twisted Evil
I like the terrain a lot! Great work. My compliments to the bended roof, and I also like the the first of the flying trycicle building.

Keep up the good work!

Hi, wanted to share another tidbit with you. I've been reading about how people are making their bases. I learned some nice bits from doing this:

Ash's Scenery or Things I spend my free time on. Base01

My group has put together a lot of buildings lately with a foamcore base. They were fine until we started painting them. At which point they all started warping. So I've begun to cut off the foamcore bases and replace them with more sturdy MDF bases.

This picture is a test run of how to finish one. I used a dremel bit to etch in the flagstone pattern (thanks Karitas! ) and then painted it up with the usual layering and drybrushing. Unfortunately it had quite a bit of warping once it was painted Sad I was able to correct the warping though Smile. I turned it over and soaked the other side with water, a lot of water, and rubbed it in with a large brush, then I put a 10 pound dumbell on top of it and let it dry. Hooray this worked wonderfully to straiten it out again. Unfortunately I've already glued a lot of my buildings to an unfinished MDF base. So I will have to find another technique for finishing those ones. But I will definitely use this again to pre-finish bases before I glue the buildings on.

Bases

lol! My Amigo, Ashton, & I are on opposing teams on the base question. The bases on my buildings are an intergral part of the story the structure tells, AND, with the taller buildings, they add stability. The baseless ones look incomplete to moi. Suspect

Your bases ROCK! GREAT looking flagstone effect; VERY well painted. thumbsup
It MUST be dumb luck, but I've yet to have any warping on my bases. I use 3/8" "fan" pink foam. Suspect
