Hiyo dudes. After a long phase of inactivity I've searched for any rules updates. And I have to admit that iam very confused. Do we just still use the mordheim un-living rulebook and stuff or is there any community-based rulebook?

I searched and did not find anything useful, also the links in the sticky threads seem to be dead.
I hope you could help me and maybe sum up some links in this thread.

The rulebook, updated to include the various rules update (no new ones of those in recent years) is on the GW website:

Tabletop Geeks have a wealth of the old pdf files:

Welcome back to Mordheim!

One significant thing about current situation in Mordheim is, that you probably wouldn't be able to find two groups, using the exactly same set of rules. Every group make its own house rules to deal with those widely known official rulebook issues their own way.

That is on the whole true, but the amount and degree of house-ruling varies widely. My group(s), for example, have relatively few house rules and most of them very minor.

I agree with weaver. While my group happens to one of those that plays with a ton of new rules, I don't think any of them are necessary for the game to be playable or anything like that. Most of them are just to add more depth, and make options other than "double club and no armor" worth while.

Welcome!

You can also find a lot of the GW published material saved on the Mordheim Yahoo Email Group.

PDFs of the more recent (if you can call them that) Fanatic Online magazines are available on the Specialist Games Forum. The Mordheim section of that forum is pretty dead since everyone is here!

As mentioned by mweaver and whiskeytango, the Mordheim rules can be played quite fine as currently written but a lot of groups do play with have a couple of minor tweaks to make armour more viable and duel wielding not quite as good. There are also some groups that have more dramatically changed the rules. Ultimately it is up to your group how much you want to change but I recommend to only change as little as possible and only make changes after playing with those mechanics a lot (both before and after any change).

Probably the best example of that being "Coreheim", which at this point is a ridiculous name since its hardly even the same game anymore. Its creators claim its a "better game", but thats highly subjective. I think a more accurate description would be that its a more simplified game, which depending on what you're looking for could be a good or bad thing. Personally I prefer more in-depth experience when playing a RPG influenced game.

I also agree that if you want to add house rules, you should do it little by little. If theres something the majority of your group can agree on that you'd like to change or add, make the adjustment and play test the hell out of it before you consider bringing in something else new as well.

Coreheim: Simpler rules, yes. Simpler tactics, no! Far more strategic and tactical game and that's God's honest truth!

I think they chose that name because they wanted to focus on streamlining and "fixing" the core rulebook, and not worrying about the balance issues with the TC stuff and other settings (which many people claim are internally balanced, but unbalanced when used against the original warbands).

Different strokes for different folks, I s'pose. My group plays with very few house rules because we're not very competitive players and prefer lots of options and variety (a lot of the commonly accepted min-max strategies hadn't occurred to us until we started browsing forums!). But sometimes with lots of complexity comes poor game balance, and a lot of house rules (and complete rule overhauls like Coreheim) do a good job of addressing those issues, if you're worried about people exploiting those types of strategies.

Like others have said - I'd say start with the rules as-written and find out what kinks you guys run into, and house rule as necessary (or if necessary).
