In descirption odf Zzap and Fire of Gork is written that the spell can be cast at the closest enemy. And now the questions:
1. Does it mean, that it should be cast at a model that is in close combat, of course if he is the closest one? Or it should be cast at the closest enemy "free" model as the same as shooting rules describe?
2. Should I have the line of sight as in shooting? I mean such a situation as below:

Code:
 D
AAA

A1

D - defender
A - attackers
Three A models standing next to each other are not in HtH with D. A1 sees the D model, but don't have line of sight, and this is the closetst model. Can A1 can cast a spell on D?

In my circle we have always played that when casting spells that that say "the closest enemy" as the target mean exactly that - you target the closest enemy - even if they are in close combat.

We've tried various approaches. Rules as written is certainly the best although it doesn't end all argument. (Nothing does really.)

One of the elusive Q&As (TC#12, p. 43) states that
Quote :
Spells cannot be targeted at models which are out of line of sight.
An exception is made for area effect spells like Soul Fire.

Thanks for the answers.
VonKurst's Q&A is the answer form my second question. Don't know how I missed that one.
And the first one, as I understand, most of you play that a model can cast a spell (e.g zzap) into close combat. Am I right?

By rules as written you can cast the spell at a close combat opponent, yes.

As far as the FAQ goes, we often forget that particular stricture and have had endless discussions and proposed house rules before re-discovering it. scratch

Yes, we allow you to hit someone in close combat, because the rules/spell description doesn't say you cannot.

I see. This causes me to ask another question. Smile If I cast a spell into close combat, does it mean that spell hits the enemy? Or is it randomly selected who the spell hits, as in shooting described in Chaos on the Streets for multiplayer.

I believe to think magic is more accurate then a normal Ballistic weapon, therefor I would not apply the "Random selection", rulewise I wouldn't know what it says... Embarassed
