By way of a thank you to you forumites, for all the inspiration and tutorials, here are the first three completed models of Obnog's warband.

Apologies for the quality, it's the best i can get with my phone.

Obnog and his two big'uns.

First attempts with green stuff, which you can tell by the massive thumbprint on the frying pan.

I will update with progress as it happens, but be warned, it will be slow. Sleep

Nice! I like the progress made. The orcs look very clean, nicely painted and good colour use. By the way, the first attempt GS is not bad at all!

Avoiding fingerprints on the GS is rather easy, just use some water. I usually dip my fingers in water before using GS, and this has worked fine for me.

PRETTY COOL STUFF! The thumb prints on the fry pan give it a hammered out look...on stuff like satchels & knapsacks, the prints add a woven feel to the items. About the only advice I'd offer is to add a couple of bright spots of color to break up the neutral shades. Otherwise VERY WELL DONE! thumbsup

Thanks for the cc, i will try a bit more colour on the next one, which is going to be this guy.

Beastman shield, with a repositioned arm, im hoping the greenstuff top of arm will look ok once painted.

A couple of unidentified meat joints on his belt

And this "Troll food" package will be on his back

Can't get a decent photo of the goblin in a sack, i think it is just too small for my phone to handle.

Anyway, i have some greenstuff questions.
Any ideas how i can make a coil of rope?
Rolling it out and coiling GS doesn't really work as i can't roll it an even thickness.

Also, should i leave GS to go off a bit before working with it, does that make it any easier, or worse?

It looks good even without paint! Smile

For rope, roll out 2 thin sausages of putty, let them cure for 45min or so, then twist them together. It looks good enough for most purposes. You can even leave fingerprints on it to represent authentic rope texture! Wink

For rolling it out, start an the centre and apply pressure evenly with both hands. As you roll, move your fingers from centre to the ends. Should give tou something reasonably even. You can always trim off the ends if they end up thicker or thinner than the majority.

You are often advised to leave the GS to cure for about 20min before you work with it but it really depends on how you feel about working with it. It all comes with practice. You'll eventually get the hang of it. I sometimes work with it immediately if I want to do any organic surfaces like skin, hair or fur. Detail stuff works better if it's been left a bit longer.

Hope that all made some sense and was useful.

Catferret did a great job explaining how to make ropes with greenstuff. I would add that you should roll them on a slick surface which is slightly wet. A tile or plastic cutting board works well.

Due to an Orc spearman getting LGT , this has been the next one:

Obnog's Ard Boyz WIP IMAG0106

Obnog's Ard Boyz WIP IMAG0105

Obnog's Ard Boyz WIP IMAG0107

I had a go at more colour, but he didn't look orcy enough with natty clean yellow and red stripy trousers, so they got a black ink wash. Mmm, dirty orcy.

Thanks Catferret for the GS info, i am trying out your suggestions.

Hey, that's good stuff! The repositioned arm looks dynamic and the gs-ing looks fine. I agree with deafnala that some lighter highlights will bring out the depth of the models better. If you haven't already checked out quidamcorvus and warbosskurgans stuff, you should - they helped me realize that using brighter highlights bring out the best in your minis.

The LGT dude looks great. The twohanded handling of the spear is a nice take; I would not be inclined to place one of my poor warband members in front of him. His dirty pants are a tribute to the orc way of life: steal shiny/nice/advanced stuff and dunk it down it different kinds of filth until it's comfy and has nice stench.
