PostSubject: Hello fron Indiana USA   Sat 24 May 2008 - 21:13

Greetings all-

Just found this forum a few days ago and have been reading and enjoying all the postings. I thought I ought to go ahead and introduce myself. Name is Brad and I live in north central Indiana. I've been playing miniatures type games for about twenty years. I started playing Mordheim the day it was released. I also have played WHFB, 40K, and other sci-fi, fantasy, and historical mini games over the years. I also dig board games and RPGs.

My kids are just starting to get old enough to understand the Mordheim rules and get interested in playing. I just finished up a 10 model Middenheim warband for my 7 year old son. I'll be working on a Sisters warband for my 9 year old daughter next. My wife has a Sisters warband as well.

I've also got painted warbands for Orcs & Goblins, Undead, Dwarfs, Beastmen Raiders, Adventurers (from the Karak Azgul setting), Reiklanders, Possessed and Skaven. I plan to get some pictures of my painted stuff taken and posted somewhere. I'll be sure to share once I do.

thanks!

Welcome to the Forum IronBull! I'm glad you're enjoying the posts.

Wholly crap, you've got a lot of warbands. Are they all fully painted? If you haven't heard yet, most TBMF visitors are Picture crazy, and would love to see your warbands. =]

And not to get too off topic right off the bat, but does your wife play much? and if so, how did you get her too? (or did you? Wink) muhahaha

WELCOME ABOARD MY FELLOW AMERCIAN ; sorry I was having an LBJ moment there . God, do you realize, if they used old Americus' last name, we'd be Vespucians? Suspect

Having an inhouse Mordheim group sounds cool. I spawned three RPGers myself . AND ALL THOSE WAR BANDS, WOW! Enjoy your stay; I've found this to be a very inspiring hangout populated by some very friendly, highly talented folks. CAVEAT: there's a crazy old man haunting the forum; BEWARE. geek

Thanks for the warm welcome, all! I certainly appreciate it. I had planned to take some pictures yesterday and post, but something odd and pretty cool happened. I won two tickets to the Indy 500. We were right in the middle of the front straight-away, between turns 4 and 1. We were about 15 rows up from the track. Wow! Those cars are loud and fast. Loads of fun.

Anyway, I took some pics of some of my warbands, but they didn't come out too great - not enough light. I'll work on my set-up and try again. For now, here are a few shots of my Beastmen Raiders warband.

Here's the whole warband

Minotaur

Centigor

Shaman

War Chief

Gor Hero with Two Axes

Gor Hero with Halberd

Ungors with Spears and Shields

I don't make any claim to being a great painter, but I am usually able to produce reasonable looking resutls fairly quickly. Like I said - I'll try to take some better pictures and post again.

thanks!

Yea, all of that stuff is fully painted. Many, many years ago I decided that I hated playing with unpainted minis. I decided that I wouldn't play a game with anything that wasn't painted. That made me learn how to paint quickly and produce results I was happy with in a short amount of time. Actually, years ago I used to keep painting journals. I'd write down what I was painting and planning to paint and keep track of how many hours and minutes I spent on a particular model or group of models. It sort of became a game with me and I learned to crank painted minis out fairly quickly.

Regarding my wife - well, she's always been willing to try all sorts of games. Most of them she isn't too fond of, but she kinda' liked Mordheim. I think having her own warband, naming her models, etc made it feel more like the minis were hers and not just playing pieces.

Don't sell yourself short; those are some very nice looking minis. Nice smooth skin tones and a good choice of colors, cleanly rendered. Very well done, amigo! AND your photos turned out crisp & clear; an excellent presenation. thumbsup

Keep 'em coming!

Wow. Good work. I think this is my first completed beastman warband I've ever seen. Good work. The old guy (=]) is right, well done on the minis, they are well above average.

Great idea for keeping track of time. I love "games" and that is one I could definitely play, esp since I took like 8 hours to paint 5 squigs...

Yea, m' lady saw me doing some "after game" rolls, and she understood (and commented about) that your characters develop from game to game (which is one of my favorite parts about the game), so I think I'm building some interest Wink thanks for the tips.

I look forward to see the rest of your warbands!

Oh yes, and congrats on winning tickets to the races =] thumbsup

PostSubject: Re: Hello fron Indiana USA   Mon 26 May 2008 - 19:30

Thanks guys! Well, here are some Possessed minis. These are just enough to start a 500 point warband. I have three archers on the table that are built and primed - just need to be painted.

I built a Possessed warband immediately when Mordheim first came out. I don't recall how long it was before the "official" minis were released, but I do remember they didn't come out at the same time as the boxed set. As a result, I kinda' slapped my own warband together. I've since stopped playing that warband and decided I want to re-build a Possessed warband, but I didn't want to use the GW "official" minis for it - hence the minis you see below...

MAGISTER

MUTANT with SNAKE ARM

THREE-ARMED MUTANT

CLUBBY the POSSESSED

PINCHY the POSSESSED

THE WARBAND

Oh, and one more thought: You should post these pictures in a new thread in the Gallery > Models section. (instead of in the welcome newbies section =])

Yes, you should repost your two warbands in the Gallery so that they can attract more attention. Great job on them, by the way!

WOW! affraid

Yes, I agree, you should, when the opportunity arises, re-post these in the Gallery.I would have missed seeing them, if not for cianty's post [I ALWAYS check out cianty's words of wit & wisdom Suspect ].

Beyond being very well done minis, these are unique. Kit-bashing the band really personalized the lads. I especially like/love tha Magister: that head always reminded me of Burt Lancaster, although yours is more Jack Nicholson, COOL. It would be difficult to single out any one mini as a "favorite" , but Pinchy the Possessed comes close. VERY WELL DONE thumbsup

Posting your work is a great way to chronicle your progress.; sort of a mini Matakishi's Tea House.

Well put, Ashton. This Whole Forum is like daily Christmas presents without the socks & underwear from Great Aunt Elsie [I don't really have a Great Aunt Elsie, but Great Aunts SHOULD have names like Elsie].
