There are several lists on the 'net as examples of Halfling warbands — could anyone let me know which is considered the "most canonical," since apparently nothing is official?

Well, no one of them is any more official than any other. It is up to you to read through them and decide which you think most accurately represents what a halfling warband would be and which is most balanced for play. Or, possibly, which one your friends will let you play (if any).
I have little experience with the furry foots but the Flame On group have featured halflings in many of their Sartosa and Vercuso campaigns. Give a shout (PM) to Warboss Kurgan or Blessed Knight and they can give better feedback.
