It says:

The Skaven has patiently mastered the deadly art of
open-hand fighting, as taught by the mystics of Cathay in
the temples of the far East. In hand-to-hand combat, the
Skaven can fight with his bare paws without any
penalties and counts as having two weapons (ie, +1
attack). In addition, a Skaven Hero with this skill will
cause a critical hit on a To Wound roll of 5-6 instead of
just 6. This skill may be used in conjunction with the
Eshin Fighting Claws (+2 Attacks instead of +1).

Do I get it right, when skaven hero with 1A characteristic is equipped with fighting claws gets this skill, he goes with 3 attacks in HtH? Or is it just the description so tricky and following the logic the hero has 1 basic attack and 1 extra attack for his off hand claw?
Didn't find anything in FAQ and errata.
Thanx

That's right. It's quite mean!
You get +1A with just the Fighting Claws, and the skill gives you one extra!

I'm having a discussion with our Skaven player and we dont know how to interpret this combo.  We want to make sure we have Fighting claws and AoSD correct.

ok let's say you have one attack on your stat line.  1A+ 1A for AoSD.  2 total dice.  FC give you 1A +1 for having a second weapon, 2 total dice.

If you have FC and AoSD do you get 1A + 1 for a second weapon + 2 for AoSD = total of 4 dice
or 1A + 1 for a second weapon + 1 for AoSD = total of 3 dice

Thanks

This is an interesting case of the RAW and RAI being fairly clear, but also being fairly antithetical to other rules. It does specifically state that this skill, when paired with fighting claws, grants +2 attacks, but it also states the reason it adds +1 attack is because you count as being armed with two weapons. Likewise, the "pair" special rule for fighting claws also makes it clear that you gain the additional attack because you're armed with 2 weapons. So really, the rules just overlap and shouldn't be cumulative since the extra attack is coming from the same source (being armed with 2 weapons), but they are explicitly stated to combine. Its some pretty weird ruling in my opinion.

It's best to read TAoSD as three separate effects.

First, remember the normal case - a fist is -1 strength and only allows for a maximum of 1 Attack (so if you were equipped with a Sword and Shield and lost your sword, you'd have a fist with one attack, but if you lost your Shield too for some reason, even if you had 'two fists', you'd still only have one attack.)

#1 - Crits on a 5-6 To Wound (provided you wound on a 4+).

#2 - If armed with a fist, it counts as having two weapons.

#3 - if armed with Eshin Fighting Claws, add +1 Attack.

Number one is just awesome. It's worth a skill unto itself.

Number two is neat. It definitely means you can just have someone go into combat unarmed but they get two attacks. It might also mean that they can go into combat with a buckler or a shield, although it probably doesn't mean they can have a 'sword and fist' combo going.

Of particular interest is the fact that TAoSD allows a one-armed Skaven to have "two weapons." The usual case is you've lost your off-hand weapon or defensive item. But a monk-skaven is still a whirling dervish of death with one arm, which is sort of neat. Throw in a tail weapon and you still have a powerful hero (even with one arm).

Number 3 is simple - Claws give you two attacks. If you have TAoSD, add another attack.

The Skaven warband can be a wyrdstone hunting machine or a character hunting machine. They're assassins - able to rip up people but soft and furry. All of these rules should encourage you down this path.
