Gnoblar
Scrap-seekers

By Kevin
The Big CheeseDillard

The Chief walked up the
hill at the front of the column of gnoblars scrap-seekers and

looked out over the
burning city, listening to the screams of the dieing, and the clamor
of

battle. So much stuff
that the Tallings wouldn't be needing, so many things to “Barrow”,

so much scrap to collect!
He sighed, turned and hopped up on the nearest Rhinox and shouted:

“Alrights, listen up
evy body. There is a 'uge city down there full of shiny bits an
scrap,

an we are gonna take it
all for my selves...I mean our selves, and almost no one will stand
in our

way!”

With that said most, if
not all the gnoblar hoard started down into the City of the Damned

Special rules:
An
Empire made of Scrap:

A Gnoblar Scrap-Seekers band must have a minimum of at least 5
models. You have 400 shiny bits (GP) with which to choose troops to
make up your band. The maximum number of warriors in the band is 20.

Bickering:
Roll a d6 at the beginning of each of your turns for each hero and
group of henchman. On the result of a 1 the Hero (or group) may do
nothing that turn but bicker and argue. This ability is ignored in
combat and by characters that are immune to psychology.

Insignificant:
Due to the fact that most Gnoblars are seen as nothing more that
competitors for scrap metal and shiny things, Gnoblars don't really
care how many other Gnoblars die (matter of fact they wold just sit
back and laugh). To represent this, more than 75% of any Gnoblar
warband must be taken out of action to cause a rout test. At this
point they no longer have numbers on their side, an so run like a
chicken with its head cut off.

Gnoblar
Tactics
:Gnoblars
aren't the bravest when it comes to fighting. Some of them prefer to
hide themselves in a hole, rather than to get hurt. When shooting at
any Gnoblar that is behind cover the enemy gets an additional -1 to
hit. This bonus is not canceled by the trickshooter skill the enemy
might posses
. Gnoblars never block line of
sight to other models and they don't count as cover for other models
unless other Gnoblars
.

Poor
and Smelly Lot
:
Due to their poor and distasteful nature, Gnoblar Scrap-Seekers may
only hire these mercenary units: Gnoblar Ninja, Ogre Bodyguard, and
the Pit Fighter.

The
largest, and smartest, member of the scrap-seeker crew, the Chief is
the boss. His squeaking and shrill commands are fallowed to the T (or
as close as a Gnoblar can count). He runs his crew with an
iron...thing, and only an ogre can say otherwise.

Wild-Pair:(30

As
a past time among Gnoblar Scrap-Seekers, in between the rusty metal
searching and getting eaten by anything bigger than a bucket, they
need to let off a little steam. So, naturally, they stack on top of
the larger members of the crew, pick up what ever comes to hand, and
beat the crap out of each other. Thus, “Scrapping” came into
being. Some Gnoblars enjoy this fighting style so much that they show
up to a brawl in these wild duos.

Recipes
from The Cookbook of the Great Maw

These
spells are a

brand of sorcery used by the Ogre Butchers of the Great Maw since the
coming of the Great Maw many years ago. It is a morbid form of
shamanic magic that calls upon the devourer of the ogre race and

entails eating many gross or weird things to show their devotion to
the all-devouring deity.

A
Profit of the Great Maw knows D3 of the fallowing spells from their
“personal” recipe book, handed down from Slaughtermaster to
Butcher for hundreds of years...then a Gnoblar got a hold of it.

D6
roll Result

1.)
Spray of Rust

Difficulty:6

The
Prophet ingests a rusty nail, coughs, then spits a cloud of rust into
the eyes of a near by enemy.

Magic
Missile: Range 8”. The spell causes D6 Strength 2 hits
.
The only armor save allowed is a shield save (6+).

2.)
Bladdereater

Difficulty:5

After
the Prophet gulps down a pigs bladder, he wets himself as do all the
nearby enemies... he does not mind as much.

All
enemies within 6” suffer a -1 to hit until the end of the next
magic phase.

3.)
In the Name of Someone...Powerful!

Difficulty:8

The
Prophet shouts out a random and all powerful name of somebody...and
then everyone around falls to the ground in agony, much to the
Gnoblars surprise.

Models
within 4” are Knocked Down and take a strength 3 hit with no armor
save.

4.)
Fear Me

Difficulty:7

Down
the hatch goes a harpy feather, the Prophets eyes bulge and go
bloodshot. He wails in a loud shrill voice, lased with supernatural
terror “FEAR ME”!

One
target within 12” must make a leadership test. If the target fails
its leadership test then it moves twice its speed toward the nearest
table edge. If it goes off the table edge, it is considered Knocked
Out for the rest of the game (although they do not need to role on
the injury table after the battle). Model immune to psychology are
immune to this effect.

5.)
Nutcracker

Difficulty:8

The
Prophet bites down on the severed ball of a male warhound while
glaring at a nearby enemy. The enemy feels a similar sensation.

One
target within 8” suffers a strength 6 hit that stuns on a 2-4. This
does not effect female or non-living models.

6.)
The Great Maws Blessing

Difficulty:-

The
Prophet pulls out a small table and cloth, eating utensils, bib, and a
plate of spaghetti. He then delicately grinds a wyrdstone shard all
over it. Filled with a gut-wrenching hunger at the sight of this
gluttony, nearby Gnoblars tear into their foes with renewed vigor.

As
an additional cost to using this spell you must sacrifice a wyrdstone
shard. While within 6” of the Prophet models in the Scrap-Seekers
warband gain +1 S, +1 T, +1 I, and Frenzy until the end of the
encounter as a feeding frenzy mentality takes over members of the
band.

It looks interesting, but I've got to admit that the messy layout of the first message put me off from reading the whole thing. Perhaps you could tidy it up, to make it more readable?

Anyways, I think that gnoblars should not be permitted to have more than 3 in Toughness. They're weedy little fellas, right?

Also, I'm not sure that such a high number of warriors as 25 is a good idea. Power in numbers is the base of Mordheim tactics, so it might be a tad powerful. 20 works for other warbands, and it might do now as well.

Other than that I haven't found anything that feels too strange. Good luck with the further development!

Also, i looked at the heroe choices, and counted seven! That is pretty off, IMO at least. I usually think that the line-up for a "swarm" kind of warband (with spellcaster) should be more like this:

One boss (generally more "fighty" than the rest of the warband)
Up to two "grunts" (a little less fighty than the boss, but more so than the rest of the warband)
Up to one spellcaster
Up to two "weakling" heroes (youngbloods etc. Start with lower stats than the rest of the warband, but may level up from scratch and roll on the hero table)

That counts six heroes, and is the recommended maximum for heroes (once again, IMHO) and is, according to me, a good number of available starting heroes for any "weak" warband.

Folkets Fiende is also correct in that a maximum of 25 warriros may seem a little steep. Also, the rules for routing seems a little too complicated, as you could only steal the rout rules for goblins in the greenskins warband (each goblin taken OOA only counts as a "half" casualty when counting how many models must be taken OOA before a rout test)

The spells seem adequately "wacky" and fun, which is totally in flavour of the warband Smile

Other than that, I think it seems pretty balanced! thumbsup

I agree with the guys above, but I'd add that in my opinion the Profit of the Grat Maw should start with just 1 spell.

I love the concept, I'm tempted to make a band up myself!

Well, a high Initiative instead of T will always get them somewhere (mobility + striking first in combat). Small gnoblars that are used to get to those small nooks and crannies where the rest of the gnoblars cant get in. Sorta like Gnoblar Spelunkers or something, which woiuld constitute a starting I of 4. Maybe?
