That's pretty much it. It messes with the amount of screen I have for text and makes scrolling within a thread cumbersome.

Also is there a way to get rid of the personal info part of the avatar or whatever its called.

You can PM Tom about it. I don't think there is a way to customize the forum layout for you. I don't really find the keywords/feed useful either...
