The figurehead looks great! You are in the home stretch now.

This really does inspire me to build a larger ship ../ponder.

If Stormgerkin is still in Toowoomba, I imagine he won't have had much time for building model ships this week. That's where this week's Australian floods hit first and hardest. Parts of the town are still underwater.

I've been lurking but following the progress of this awesome build with great interest. Hope you don't have to find out if the Siren's Silence floats for real, mate. Best wishes and good luck with everything.

It's funny how the human being suddently start carring about people they don't know, when things comes too close...
Yesterday they said in the news that an area as large as France + Germany was flooded... That's a hell of a large area!!!!

All my best...

To all that have sent there best wishes thanks for your concern. I have been lucky in the situation, that no one I know or my self have lost any thing major appart form damage to cars and fences which can easly be repaired, and no one has been hurt, unfortunedlty that is not the case for every one.
But Its good to see every one helping out and accually careing about other people for a time.

Good to hear that you are doing all right. Floods are no fun but they do bring a community together at least for a bit.

Wow its been a quater and i havent made note worthy progress, this factor along with the other inspirational pirates threads on this site has made me kick it in to gear once more.
I have gottern around to finisheing the grateing on the bow. also knocked the rudder over, it seems the build is taking on more and more detail as I continue.
I have rapped all the mast under the deck fittingly and started all the doors and hatches a surprisingly time consuming venture, will post pics as soon as i get to finish the current additions or when i get hurried enough.

Well here's the weeks progress wish i had more time to get more done.

Heres the rudder absent of rigging still, but that will change soon.
I used 5mm sheet balsa and 1m plastacard for it, cut up plastacard rod for the rivets. It has been pinned on to the arft of the boat for more structural integrity.

I've only got the grating finished on the bow, now I have to get so 1mm balsa to add the detail.

All the doors and hatches are now complete both the active and static one's just used balsa sheet and plasta card with a bit of jewelry wire for handle and to help hold the hinges in place.

a pic of it in action decided to make all the doors between rooms and levels open for line of sire.

The rest of the active hatches and doors in varying states of function. Also started to rap the masts with rigging visable here. I used brick layers strick for the rope.

It ceased to be a gaming piece awhile ago & has entered the realm of pure artistry with the new detailing. INCREDIBLE WORK! thumbsup

Hey all I've been busy of late but Ive started building lanterns for the ship, so far I have gotten all the Interior one completed. cant start the one's in the rigging yet but have started make a few to line the deck. Will need to paint one so you can get a good look at them.
Basically they are just square tube cut about 10mm in length capped with plasticard sheet and trimmed will 1mm rod the handle is 2.5mm rod and a bit of small tube at the top to hold a wire ring on so they can be hung. I
sorry I don't have any close up shots yet but with out one being painted it would be hard to make out the details.

I plan on getting the deck lined and then starting on a gunnery deck grate next.

Got the deck lanterns in place not real sure on the placement but they look the part. same idea as last time but just used a bit of tube on the bottom so they would glue in to place and look mounted.

And got the grateing in place this one wont need to e removable.

I Have picked up some 1mm balsa to finished the detail work on the bow, so with some luck I'll be able to keep the momentum going.

PostSubject: Re: Siren's Silence   Sat 26 Jan 2013 - 2:02

Has it really been 18 months since my last post, pffft better get you lot up to date with my recent work.

Soooo... I've been working on the bow primarily on and off.. well more off then on for the bulk of the time adding detail work. The trim is 2 layers of 1mm balsa glued in place one over the other to get the desired shape to contour with the bow. the figure head still needs more green stuff but that wont take long.

I have also done the bulk of the interior detailing fixing all the cannons in place adding debris etc, origanly I was going to build all the barrels and suck from scratch but that would have taken even longer to get any progress done. I have wrapped and glued the main masts in place as well, And cut a boarding passage in between the cannons on the main deck.

The captain's quarters I'm really happy with I would like to add a large chest in there too but that will have to wait until after if figure out my plan of attack for the windows.

I spent an entire day building the damn rope to secure the cannons in place with but with the help of a simple jig i built it wasn't testing, Besides I think the end result worked as planed. Also glued the hatches and grateing in place on this level along with a start to the detailing.

Ultimately I would like the entire ship to have the detail of the captains quarters but that will have to wait until i get some of the other idea's in place. I would like to cage off the front of the gunnery deck to break it up a bit, also adding a rudder chain would fill the aft well.

And last a few shots of the cannons riggings.
