Correction to above: 'Eadtaker is not T6 he is only T5. He hasn't taken Resilient, yet. Notice no comment about Granny's 'knock me over with a feather' T2... Elf just try to keep da GREEN down.

“Skirmish”
Fabrication of events by Von Kurst with illustrations by Playtable

The Law elfs confront the Marksmen across a Sartosan square. Its daylight but there’s heat lighting. Lots of heat lighting.

The Law dominates the square with elf bows. Bad news for the injury plagued Outlaws.
</A>

In between the combatants are hundreds of pirates, merchants and thieves, but they will not be struck by lightning.
Nor does the crowd disperse until the Law start shooting at Outlaws hiding in the Temple of Mannon (the Outlaws insist they were asking for Mannon’s blessing).
A couple of outlaws are outside when this happens (out of sight of the Law’s firing line).
They get pushed around by the crowd for a while.

Von Kirst: A new building perhaps?
Playtable: Yes, this is the UPS building, United Pirate Shipping.
Soon to be presented in my Tortuga inspired buildings thread.
</A>

Most of the Marksmen hide inside of buildings...
but this lone hero braves the roof.
The archer strikes a brave pose seconds before being plucked off the roof by lightning or an arrow.
</A>

Lighting and a well-placed infiltrator force the Marksmen to withdraw.

Post battle.
Casualtiy reports are forgotten if there were any.
The Marksmen continue their abysmal luck by not being able to roll above 5 on 2D6 when trading.

Law elfs get rich some more. Easily find more cool stuff to buy.

OK, my bad. I just needed 6's to wound, and I didn't get any.
Dang S3 Elves.

“Dark Ritual”
By Von Kurst with illustration by Playtable

Once again Grootka marches through a dark night at the urgings of his shaman.
Granny Nog is certain that bad juju stalks the night, but if they are in the right place at the right time Granny can make the juju work for Grootka.
Grootka doesn’t get it, but he musters the ladz and moves them toward the edge of town.
There’s an old boneyard down by the crumbling town walls.
Granny says they got to hurry. Nameless shuffle along, look for puppies.

Later Granny says they are near, so Grootka spread the ladz out.
Send Sharp Eye up on a nearby roof. Recka find a nice handy stair, too.
Things go wrong in a hurry.
Sharp no more gets into position then he shoot Slo Bil Too in the back! Sharp say he sorry.
Grootka figure Sharp sorry Too live, that’s what he sorry.
Then Recka come running back down stair. “Ded fings! Ded fings onna roof!”
Grootka say “how many?”
Recka say “too!”
Too say “wot?”
ZAPP! Old Sharp light right up. Lightning blast that orc clean off that roof. Too say “bastid still live, zog it!”
Then there’s a ded fing fighting with Recka on the stair.
Another ded fing charge up to ‘Eadtaker. ‘Eadtaker start to laugh, little ded fing.
Ded fing throw that orc into wall.
‘Eadtaker no laugh. He no get up either. Grootka get mad.

Grootka avenges ‘Eadtaker.
</A>

Law elf advance on the boneyard.
</A>

The Red Ghoul (who represents a zombie) makes a successful diving charge off of the tower! Then it is swarmed by elfs and destroyed.
</A>

Post Game
The store closed at 9 pm. Around 9:40 pm the last Malifaux game ended.
So we finally called it a night. Draw.
‘Eadtaker loses a Pit Fight. Gets robbed. Gets better.
No orcs die. Orcs do get a ton of experience from the waves of zombies.
Orcs make more money.

The Law elfs seem to escape unscathed as well.
(The diving zombie got the sneaking Elf Ranger first! So I had hopes.)
Elves make even more money.

Week VI—Crab Legs and other adventures.

"Here There be Monsters”
Water dripped into the still pool. The caverns were dark and silent. The shadow warrior paused by the pool and looked into its depths. On a ledge near the surface of the pool he spied a glittering jewel dangling from a fine chain wrapped around some underwater growth. The elf reached for the jewel, but froze as an orc stepped from behind a rock pillar on the far side of the pool. The elf withdrew its hand and reached for an arrow instead. It didn’t notice the jewel begin to move until the enraged leviathan had burst from the shallows.
Fletch grinned a toothy grin. Yon elf had sure pissed that beastie off. The huge crab made a red mess of the git, hur! Fletch sent an arrow at it just to keep it jumping. There were more elfs off in tunnels, but the big crab was kinda, well big. And close, you know? The space by the pool filled up with hooting orcs and swishy, skippy elfs. Good fun, but the elfs wouldn’t stand. Jump around. Shoot arrows. Run away. That’s elfs.
Nameless walk out and call that crab. Crab and Nameless tear bits off each other for a time. Nameless grow back. Crab don’t. Nameless win.

Post battle:
The Law Elfs lose a couple of hench-elfs. The shadow warrior gets better. Even though they ran the elfs make money. Capture Tar’d Jak.

Orcs—Find a bunch of shiny stuff in the crab’s treasure trove. Granny develops a Nervous Condition. Tar’d Jak is stabbed in the back by a new git from da Pressgang. Git leaves ol’ Jak to the elfs. Grootka promotes the new git! Call him Jumpin Jak.
As they loot the crab's treasure a hunched figure emerges from a side passage. The Witch Goody Ost offers to join the warband and is accepted.

“Skirmish”

The ladz strike north from the Cave of the Damned, enter the Osso Hills. There on a bright sunny day they encounter the Law Elfs, blighters the lot of them. Granny wave the Friendly Flag, get the ladz in close, but the Law fade back. Worse some ghouls take an interest in Slo Bil Too and Nameless. Grootka got to bash some heads.
Ghouls fighting. Elf shooting the arrows. Zoggin humies what dress like elfs start in with the arrows too. Shoot some elf, shoot some ghoul. Elf got them one of them duppy humie gits. He make the Evil Eye at ‘Eadtaker and Yo’and. Git must have some elf in him. He hop and skip. ‘Eadtaker cain’t cut him. Yo’and cain’t cut him. Goody Ost curse that duppy git. Finally Yo’and nick him. Git.
Some elfs they beat up. Of course before they fall they cut on da Pressgang. Shoot the Pressgang. (Da Pressgang were leading the charge.) Zoggin elf shoot Granny. Granny she hit bad spin around, arrow got through her, hit Jumpin Jak. He hit hard! Both go down. Granny stay down.
Law Elf run.
Nameless stand in the open and drool. Grootka find himself a nice rock. Put it between him and the humies on the hill. Take a good aim shoot his Killa Arra at a humie git. Humie yelp. Grootka take 3, 4 arra. Thunk! Thawp! Thunk! Grootka fall down. Orcs leg it.

Post battle.
Granny die. Grootka get better. Jumpin Jak get the Nervous Condition. Yard Arm Grim of da Pressgang is promoted for charging the Law alone. Orcs make little money off the day,

Law elf get shot up some. More die. No elf heroes have been hit so elfs make money again. Replace losses.

Zoggin Marksmen take no casualties. Lots of gits gain battlefield promotions for making the elf and the orc run. Marksmen have 6 heroes again.

Turn 6 of the online Treachery and Greed
rufus sparkfire wrote:

A pirate haven no longer.
Sartosa. Once the beacon of piratical freedom in Tilea has been sacked yet again. The turbulent city is currently under occupation by the Golden Company. The latest additions to the port torn down as repugnant relics of the hated Tyrians. Whilst the population will no doubt be encouraged by the lack of green skins “ruling” them they might grow to miss the previous administration.

The Tyrian rule was short yet really rather alcoholic, a popular choice with a heavily pirate princedom. Presumably the latest rulers will not rely on continuous drinking to prevent ambitious rivals from attempting to take the crown. Something that might lead to future problems with the naturally volatile populace.

To the seas !
With the seizure of many of their belongings recently, it would appear that many a captain from the Golden Company as decided to follow the example of Captain Dastard and try their luck at sea. No longer do the Tyrian and Cerulean fleets rule supreme, driven from the heart of the Tilean Seas as they are.

Bows, Arrows and String.

Alexander Mikosov opened his brand new archery business in the walls of Verezzo. At great cost the business imported the finest cats from the Estilian capital to be slaughtered to make exquisite bow strings. The purebred Gato being the preferred choice. Each of these lovingly crafted bows costs a small fortune to make and it has become the fashionable weapon of choice for many remaining nobles in Verezzo. It’s use becoming a sign of obedience and loyalty to the towns Tyrian masters.

A new lease of life.
Alesso Alfonti has revealed significant plans to redevelop the empty town of Organzo. Declaring himself ruler he has offered free land to any willing to take the risk of settling in Organzo. The shadow of the extermination understandably lies heavily over any potential settlers. Whether it will be successful or not relies entirely on many external factors aside from whether he can attract new townsfolk. On the positive side, the undead have seemingly all but left the region, leaving it open for settlement. Despite that fact, finding the correct local support will be very important in allowing the town to flourish in the future. Yet Alfonti presses on using his own funds to encourage the growth of a new Princedom.

The back is not broken.

The city of Luccini still stands despite a major offensive on its walls. The dishonourable capture of the Golden Companies diplomat Armand De La Croix and King Leonard’s subsequent demands of a truce in return for his life fell on deaf ears. Mighted Stormbrow, rumoured to be the favourite to be new leader of the faction lead an assault on the city itself. However given the recent fall of Remas and Sartosa King Leonard was suitably prepared. The army of Luccini stood ready to repel the invaders. Whilst the battle was hard fought the well trained civilian soldiers narrowly held out against the massive foreign force.

However it was not due purely to their martial skill that the city stood firm. In an unexpected move the Duke Mordini interposed his army between the Golden Company and Luccini, cutting down any who approached mercilessly. When the Company's armies retreated, Armand de la Croix was seen leaving Luccini's south gate, to be delivered into Mordinis' hands. Apparantly Mordinis intervention secured the continued life of his favourite currently being held hostage. Yet it is also likely to earn him much enmity from his “allies“.

Statue of the protector.

Silence defied its namesake as a massive party was held by the inhabitants. The city joyously declared its fealty to the King of Luccini after he paid for its walls to be made again. Along with the new walls came a particularly interesting ornamental statue of the King deep in thought. Inscriptions on the base state that whilst the statue still stands so does the Kings love of its people.

The old working for the new.

The Despot of Remas finally had some good news. The Reman planes have been retaken by a force friendly to his lordship. Lucius Maximus marches at the command of the ruler of Remas. The cursed Reman lord fought bravely to ensure that the leader of his descendants holds onto land belonging to the empire he died so bravely to protect.

The gates of potential return.

Via Nano. The pass connecting the eastern Border Princes to the western Tilean realms. It is strategically vital for any force wishing to expand into either side. The Cerulean League commander Issac von Siegfriedshof probed deep into the mountain pass hoping to find a safe route through into the east. Whilst he had some limited success any true gains were foiled by a massive Vermillion invasion of the city of Trantio. Yet again the city has been returned to the fold, yet apparent schisms in the camp could raise questions as to who will rule Trantio. The previous Princes death has created a genuine conundrum of legality to rule. Certainly many would question High Priest Columnars motives for invasion.

The invasion and loss of Trantio will certainly ruin the mining plans of Silic the previous Cerulean Prince of Trantio. The expansive and expensive new mining shafts lay dormant whilst the threat to the workers is so high. Another new business suffered monetary losses from the fall of the city. Yet Baron Samedi’s bargain brothel has not been abandoned just yet….

Kurt’s town no longer.

To the east the Vermillion Legion has retaken Kurt’s Town. The town is certainly no longer ruled by anyone named Kurt and has changed hands yet again much to the lament of its citizens. Rowlon Falkon and the Night Warden formed an unlikely alliance to retake the town. A skeletal warlord and a Sigmarite Priest working together for the good of their factions ambitions.

Bad Orcs in the Badlands.

Continued rebellion in the badlands threaten any plans by all mercenaries in the region. Both Tyrian generals Goregut and Grotkicker and the single Golden Goblin General Nigrott are forced to remain in their fortifications as orcs overwhelm the badlands itself. Whilst they are not under massive pressure and exploration is still undertaken the continued loss of territory has to be worrying those nearby.

Week VII—Halfway.
We are halfway through the 14 week campaign cycle. The High Elves and the Gutrippas have passed the 300 warband rating mark. The Dark Elves and the Outlaws are well below that since they have neither numbers nor experienced heroes. (And Playtable took a vacation.)

"Sneaking into Sartosa Town”
A Breakthrough variant from StyrofoamKing’s Sartosa Campaign setting

Background.
A motley collection of human pirate rebels and other adventurers have wrested Sartosa from Warboss Kurgan’s grasp. (Treachery and Greed, Turn 6) Grootka and the lads volunteered to make a sortie into the town to scout things out for the Admur’l’s return.

Grootka.
Of course scouting is not exactly Grootka’s strong point. The ladz arrived after dark, but with one thing (Nameless) and another (bright moonlight) Grootka decided to take the direct approach and see what happened. Ran right into a group of Law Elf sentries. Always thought they was a two-faced bunch (guarding rebels and pirates!). The attack got kind of tangled up with the usual confused falling down in the dark, cussing, scrapping and drooling. Upshot was Grootka had to shoot an elf rather than Nameless eating him. Tricky shot what with Nameless drooling, darkness and all. Elf-git went down but a Pressganger had to run over and make sure he stayed that way. Then all the alarms went off and elfs run everywhere. Elfs hide, then they ambush the orcs in the twisting streets. Grootka keep pushing.
Grootka looked past the pillar he had taken cover behind. Zoggin arrow hit the wall right beside his head! Grootka say, “Nameless! Ye seez ‘im?”
Nameless say, “not puppy.”
“Hur!” Grootka say, “him hide puppy. No let Nameless play wit dem puppy, him.”
Nameless roar. Grootka roar. Both pile into the sniper elf.

Grootka looks like he’s fallen down because the model will not stand due to the texture I put on the steps. (Something else to do over.) Nameless can’t hit the hoppy, skippy shadow elf.

The sniper went down to a blow of Grootka’s axe but suddenly there are more elfs all around them. (I should have walked around to my opponent’s side of the table and peeked.) Grootka and Nameless fight but elf hop and skip. Elf got sharp choppas too. More orcs rushed toward the fight but they were met with arrows and drawn swords.

</A>
On the left flank Mugger Tugg and Rigga Top, Too have a difficulty with a stubborn elf. While he gives Mugger advice on elf killing, Rigga is being shot by 2 of the elf’s less aggressive friends.

Post battle:
Once Grootka falls Yo’and calls retreat right away.
Grootka is Hardened by the experience. Yard Arm Grim and Jumpin Jack recover from their wounds. But the mission is complete failure. The loot gained hardly covers the expense of the attack. Grootka has his eye on a duppy git called Wyrd Doc 4-Eyes, but there is no gold for new hires.

The Law Elfs lose the sentry. But they find some fabulous treasure and loot it to hire new talent.

“Skirmish I”
A Sharp Fight on a Moonlit Sartosan Steet

Grootka and the ladz wait outside the walls of Sartosa for a bit and give this scouting another go. This time the patrol penetrates to the Old Temple Square before being challenged by a low growl from the palms by the temple door.

Nameless say, “puppies!” He run off into the dark. Louder growling and roaring ensue.

</A>
Nameless is behind the palm trees. He doesn’t hurt the puppy.

Grootka say, “Nameless! Ye git back ‘ere!” But Grootka knows that Nameless will play with the puppies until their broken bodies bore him or until too badly injured himself.
“For’ard on da double ladz!” Grootka ordered. “Deys da Bad Elfs!” With a clatter of weapons most of the orcs jogged through the dark toward the looming silhouette of the Old Temple. A couple tripped in the dark. Slo Bil, Too held back as he searched the darkness for Sharp Eye and his zoggin crossbow.
The Bad Elfs rushed Nameless from the other side of the Square. One of them held a brightly burning sword. Nameless shout, “HOT!” Puppies nip and bite, Nameless smolders some and tries to hug them puppies real tight.

</A>
Nameless fights 2 puppies and the beastmaster. Yo’and helps out by killing a beasthound. Nameless is missing a few bits. (1 wound ring)
</A>
</A>
The general melee grows. Mugger Tugg fights a corsair. Grootka and ‘Eadtaker have collided in the dark. No help there. Yo’and is surrounded. Lots of elfs are gathering to swamp Nameless (and his friends).

</A>
The Old Smuggler holds the Dark Elf right flank.

</A>
His shot goes wide so its lights out soon for the Old Smuggler. (He’ll survive.)

</A>
The Gutrippas’ final charge. Big Face Lubber Gar uses his blunderbuss to pummel the dread Dark Elf with the big sword. Big Face hasn’t fired his ‘booma’ yet! Nameless has 2 wound rings but does not go OOA. Hur!

Post battle.
With both flanks open and no reserve, the Dark Elves cave. All of their casualties recover except for one hound. Somehow the sneaky elfs capture Mugger Tugg. The traitor joins right up with the Bad Elfs to replace the fallen hound.

The Gutrippas gain all sorts of loot. But after paying off the orc pirate, the goblin swab and the witch as well as feeding Nameless, the remainder is not enough to replace Mugger Tugg or hire a new shaman. Yard Arm Grim and Jumpin Jak gain Lucky Charms instead.

Grootka makes the scouting report. Sartosa town lousy with them gits, nasty bunch of slavers, too.

"Skirmish" again (It was too late to rearange the terrain much)
Satrosa, night time, weather bad for shooting
High Elves vs Dark Elves

The Church of Mannan is in the center and divides the town.
The Dark Elves start in the center of the North side to keep the shooty elves out of sight for as long as possible.
They fake to the West and then go to the East, around back of the church. (More shooty Elves on the West.)
The Highborn leaves the new Orc, Mugger Tugg, and one Corsair to stop the High Elves from coming around at the front of the curch.

The Beastmaster has a bad time with the ONE Cold one beasthound and his stupidity.
Neither make it into the battle.
Either the hound goes stupind or the beastmaster tries to run and falls down.
</A>

The High Elves set up high 2 shooters on the East and 4 on the West.
They put the remainder as a ground force in the center.
</A>

Those sissy Elves are afraid to do anything but shoot the Orc.

With the bad weather stoping efective shooting, the Dark Elves get into HTH without many losses.
After only a couple of rounds of HTH where both sides forget about hatred, the High Elves flee.
Spineless kurrs.
</A>

Post battle:
Dark Elves find a crate with 3 Lucky Charms.
They also search and find their first 3 Rabbit's Feet. Yeah.

That's a VERY PROFESSIONAL looking conversion. The Old Glory minis along with West Wind's Dwarf Wars & Gothic Horrors are a FINE source of basic minis to fancy up. A GREAT PIECE OF WORK...you even managed to paint the Lad What a Face ! thumbsup

Week VII (Part 2)—Later that same night.
"Skirmish III”
More speculation than fact by Von Kurst, photos by Playtable

The Marksmen found themselves in a disagreement with the Law Elfs. The Marksmen deployed to the west.

</A>

The Law Elfs deployed in the enclosed courtyard to the east

</A>

Both sides deployed firing lines in the hopes that the other would accept the shooting duel. The Marksmen deployed with less hope based on experience.

Post battle:
The Marksmen of Stirwood are routed again. 3 henchmen are reported killed. Despite having the luxury of 6 heroes to explore the Marksmen report little income and high expenses. (You’d think the IRS read these reports.) The Law smugly carve more notches in their gilded elf bows. No report of casualties from the elfs, who are notorious for their policy of no comment in these matters.

“Dark Ritual”
Another outraged necromancer is disturbed while performing forbidden rituals in Ossomunte.
Text by Von Kurst, photos by Playtable.

Grootka and the ladz trudged toward another old boneyard in rain drenched darkness. Nameless would occasionally stop and stare vacantly into the rain with his head back and his mouth open. So far he hadn’t drowned and mostly, Nameless led for once.

Suddenly he stopped. Nameless say, “tickles.” The orcs heard the sounds of bones snapping and Nameless chewing. “Rotten meat” say Nameless. Nameless talk with his mouth full, but no one could see.

</A>
Caption: The Marksmen stare blindly into the darkness. Humans could only see 9 inches. Hur!

</A>
Caption: The Gutrippas follow Nameless through the courtyard.

</A>
Caption: Grootka moves up to check on Nameless. Waves of zombies feed the troll.

Once Grootka glimpsed the zombies Nameless had to look for pieces of zombie to snack on and duck axe blows. Grootka on a schedule, zombies in the way! Chop! Çhop!

Off in the darkness the orcs occasionally heard screams and prayers over the muted chanting from the old stone hut in the center of the graveyard. As the waves of zombies lessened Grootka pressed on toward the stone hut. Suddenly through the rain Grootka could see a lone humie fighting several zombies. The humie was too far away to rush so Grootka shot him in the back. Shortly after that the screams and prayers receded into the night.

Post battle.
Heavy rain and darkness stopped the Marksmen’s shooting cold. Zombies overwhelmed their isolated warriors. The Marksmen gave up as soon as they honorably could. One henchman may have died. The back-shot hero survives against the odds.

Somehow with the rain and darkness and all the duppy stuff going on with ‘ded fings’, the orcs fail to stop the ritual (the store closed). Since the Marksmen had already fled the game is counted as a win. A good bit of loot is collected from the tombs. Unlike previous meetings no orcs are even wounded. Grootka hires Wyrd Doc 4Eyes. Jumpin Jak is expelled from the crew. (Never did trust the git and he got a bit gimpy right off.)

Turn 7 of the online Treachery and Greed Campaign
News and events of the larger war from the campaign website.
Soth wrote:

] Piracy continues.

Following the example of the Golden Company pirate Dastard, Hartwig Feindschlager preys the seas of Tilea, undoubtedly aiming to be able to retire a rich man as well.
His control of the Northern Tilean sea is undisputed… for now. Dastard himself met his doom on the high seas after a gigantic squid smashed his ship apart in a shower of timber and death.

In other piracy news, the Golden company succeeded in securing the entire sea passage in the south, helped in this endeavour by a mystical lack of winds. The steam powered ships of Mighted Sturmbrow and his attack force made good and immediate use of this advantage destroying a significant number of Tyrian ships. Friendly dockyards have been hurriedly producing and requisitioning fight worthy vessels to replace their losses.

] Death, death and more death.

The assassins guild has recovered from its inactivity. Several generals of all major factions were murdered brutally after they were discovered to be scheming together against the will of their betters. Whilst it is rumoured no one paid for theses assassinations there have been suggestions that messages from the Gods themselves willed it.

] North of Remas

In the areas north of this great city, intense fighting has ensued between Cerulean and Vermillion forces. Personified in a duel between two champions of the armies, the Cerulean general was quickly dispatched by Heironymous Lothair, the Middenheimer representing Condlumar in this trial by ordeal. To the surprise of his fellow generals, the Cerulean champion was exposed as a follower of Chaos, who had even murdered his own brother and taken his place. From his letters we can conclude he was misguided by the Trickster God.

Heironymous discovered the taint when removing the dead man’s armour, and quickly changed his plans from an honourable burial to a quick burning, to prevent the taint from spreading.

Meanwhile the armies clashed, but neither was able to gain the upper hand. Due to the shifts in the fighting, the Cerulean master of morale, Von Siegfriedhof, was trapped in Pavona, cut off from the rest of his forces. He fully intends to sell his hide dearly, for he has planted his banner firmly on the highest tower of the city.

] Remas

In Remas, the population seemed eager to welcome its ancient general Lucius Maximus back to the Reman streets. Part of the population even took up arms to assist his attack, but the Ceruleans outnumbered them still. However, they now know they must not only fear attacks from the outside..

] Tomb of the fallen.

After the defeat of the Prince of Sartosa to the Tyrians his body has laid in the waters around Sartosa. Whilst it likely remains in it's nautical grave the general Ludwig von Mises has commissioned a great tomb out of respect for the Prince. Whilst many of Sartosas citizens have little concern for the honour of a fallen leader some consider this act of nobility the sign of a good future Prince.

] The Leopard stands firm !

In Luccini, Leonard di Lucci proves himself worthy of the throne of Luccan by retaining the cities’ independence once again. By use of the ancient art known as diplomacy, di Lucci managed to keep the Golden Company from its coveted prize. Somehow Luccini was even surrounded by a gigantic wall of fire, summoned by purple clad wizards. Aldobrando Aldobrandesco, who is rumoured to claim Luccinis’ throne as his own will probably need to commit many more forces to the siege to ensure its success. With his ambassador freed by Mordini recently, there is nothing that should stop him…. Apart from Alfonti and Vinta, of course...
] Whoring.

A fourth whorehouse has opened in Tilea this week. Making use of several of the husks from previous fights on the Pirates Current one sea worthy ship has been made and commisioned as a floating brothel. Cackelflax Glory is now the latest in nautical naughtness for all your nefarious nudity.

]Benevolent rulers

Many a general has proven to be a lenient lord to his conquered people. By handing out gold and goods, the hearts of the populations of Pavona and Gork were won by respectively Graf de Valois and Groznit Goregut. The latter hopes that the neighbouring orc tribes will look kindly upon him, easing his ascension as lord of the badlands.

Week VIII—The Pirates Current and the Osso Hills.
"The Treasure Ship”
Totally unbiased narration by Von Kurst, photos by Playtable

Background.
The Tyrian Guild gives up its plans of returning to power in Sartosa for awhile and attempts to reassert its power on the seas. The Smasher sails into the Pirate’s Current looking for prizes.

Grootka.
Grootka stood on the aftcastle of the Smasher and drew in the smells of salt and sea. (And the reek of unwashed orcs, goblins and especially troll.) Hur! It was a glorious day. Doc 4Eyes had the wheel. The Smasher was clipping nicely along with the wind. Wallowing off the bow was a fat Marienburger carrack. Somebody had shot it up a bit and it looked just about ready to haul in its colors and share its cargo. Just in case Grootka sent a bolt into the Marienburger’s nearest swivel gunner. The fellow pitched nicely over the rail and disappeared beneath the waves. Sorted that!

Sharp Eye cry, “Sail ho!”
Big Face say, “Bugger!”

</A></A>
Caption: Rounding a small island was the damned crisp sails of a Law Elf ship.

Grootka shouted, “line ‘er up 4Eyes! Larb’ard gun fire as ye bear!” The goblin crews had a brief discussion of what that order might mean, but the proper gun fired and scored a hit on the elf’s bow. The goblins gave a ragged cheer. Arrows arced from the Smasher’s bow towards the Marienburger’s waist to further discourage her crew. Big Face potted one of the elf archers with his Long Thunder Stick.

</A>
Caption: The Smasher’s jolly boat rows frantically after the Smasher to keep the big ship between it and the Law’s guns.

</A>
Caption: The Smasher grapples the treasure ship. The jolly boat grapples the Smasher. Orcs swarm aboard the treasure ship as the Law fires indiscriminately into the melee.

</A>
Caption: A Marienburger fires his pistol at the Smasher’s decks. The Law’s jolly boat rows a parallel course firing arrows into the melee on in the treasure ship’s waist. The ghost of the elf ranger watches. (Big Face scored a lucky hit and the ranger fell overboard stunned. Sharks got him. Hur!)

</A>
Caption: Once the carrack was taken the enraged Grootka flung himself over the rail in an attempt to board the Law’s jolly boat. The elf cowards on the jolly boat row further away to escape. The Smasher casts off the prize and tries to continue the duel with the Law ship.

Post battle:
Mounting casualties and peer pressure from Playtable and Chadwicc (they started their game after we did and finished before we did) meant the orcs gave it up. The goblin crew on the starboard gun was down, Yard Arm was reloading his swivel gun and the elfs kept backing off further to limit the effectiveness of the orc and goblin arrows. (Big Face had 4 arrows in him and no desire to continue the duel between one long rifle and 14 elf bows.) The last of the Pressgang dies. Fibber Jib, the goblin swab, loots several fallen Marienburger sailors (but fails to loot the fallen captain and I forgot all about the elf ranger, doh!).

The Law Elf claimed the defeated Marienburger as a prize and pressed the survivors of her crew. The Law found some contraband poisons in the hold, so they confiscate everything including a Minor Artifact. Sharks ate the hated elf ranger (Granny is avenged!). (Sadly the Law encounter another castaway ranger almost immediately by rolling three 6s on the exploration dice.)

“Chance Encounter I”
Osso Hills, day time, rainy weather, -1 to hit with missiles,
4 ghouls first turn for unwanted company. They came in on the Marksmen's side.

The Marksmen set up on a hill for shooting.
Dark Elves advance through the center where the best cover is.
The Marksmen couldn't hit the broad side of a barn all game.
2 ghouls charge into the rear of the Marksmen.
</A>

Marksmen put up a skirmish line to protect the best shooters for as long as possible.
Dark Elves take cover among the rocks.
</A>

With all the "trick shooters" and just the amount of shooting, some Dark Elves stumble and fall.
</A>

But in the end, the skirmish line gets surrounded and overwhelmed.
The Marksmen flee while they still have a few men left.
</A>

Post Battle:
The Marksmen loose one hero,
and another got robbed in a pit fight. (After 4 turns of double shooting at bs 6.)

Dark Elves lost Corsair, Myradin.
They hired another Cold one beasthound and found garlic for every hero.

“Chance Encounter II”
Ossso Hills, night time, 9" sight + 6" for elves and the orc= 15", clear weather
6 orcs for unwanted company but we never remembered to roll to see if they ever came in.
We also both forgot hatred, again!!! Would have helped the Dark Elves a lot.

The main bulk of the Dark Elves advanced on the South, keeping to cover as long as possible.
</A>

The Dark elves sent 3 members to the North in order to split the High Elf force up.
It worked and 4 or 5 went off to stop them.
They took Orc, Mugger Tugg out with the 1st shot.
He didn't even stay long enough to get his picture taken.
Here the Old Smuggler hugs a tree for cover.
</A>

As HTH started it went pretty even with no clear winner.
</A>

Easily, the hero of the game was the High Elf on the hill. (The fuzzy one.)
He stood his ground against 1,2,3 opponents and just kept giving out the hurt to the Dark Elves.
</A>

Losses were even but heavy on both sides but it was getting late and in the end the High Elves left the field to the Dark Elves.

Post Battle:
High Elves lost a hired sword and 2 henchmen but then in exploring they found a new free hired sword.

Dark Elves lost both beasthounds and Mugger Tugg.
Dark Elves found a Treasure map at the end from a crate and a rapier in exploring.
The Dark Elves now have 2 henchmen with 2 attacks and bought them both great weapons.

“Mule Train”
The Gutrippas rob the Marksmen somewhere in the Osso Hills
Text by Von Kurst, photos by Playtable.

Background.
Once Sartosa was lost the battle shifted into the Osso Hills as enemy armies sought to capture the entire island of Sartosa. Brutal skirmishes were fought as the armies maneuvered through the rough terrain.

Grootka.
Grootka love this part. The line of camels and men move down the muddy road under a leaden sky. Rain drips from the overhanging leaves and branches of the trees. Yard Arm and Big Face blow on their slow matches and keep their weapons dry under their greatcoats. Then Nameless bellow out “humps!”

The dull rolling boom of Big Face’s Thunder Stick followed as well as a couple of half-hearted arrows. The men guarding the camels shouted and spread out into the trees and boulders lining the trail. A cloud of arrows arced through the rain in return. One of the camels baulked, all of them made noise.

</A>
Caption: The Marksmen form a firing line to face the orc ambush.

</A>
Caption: ‘Eadtaker leads a charge up the left flank. Animosity and the Marksman’s priest are about to break the charge.

Nameless stood around and drooled for a moment or two then he rushed into the rain. Grootka ran behind him to keep up. Nameless ran right over one humie (the humie’s pistol misfired in the rain, then Goodie cursed him) and a couple more pitched over with arrows in them, then the whole lot fled off back down the trail toward Sartosa town.

Post battle.
The Marksmen returned the camels to their owners. Most everybody got better as far as I recall. The Outlaws did liberate a load of grog from the beasts before they gave them back, but that was about it.

The Gutrippas lose old Fletch. Caught an arrow where it hurt. Zoggin Fibber couldn’t find his body after the pirates stopped chasing the mules. Zoggin bear must have eaten him. The pirates did find an abandoned circus menagerie so they looted that. Not as good as camel, but there you are.

Turn 8 of the online Treachery and Greed Campaign
News and events of the larger war from the campaign website. Turn 8--The promised assassins arrive.

Turn eight story update

] Remas re-conquered!

The ancient Reman Legions of Lucius Valerius Maximus saw the streets of their beloved capital once more, and even marched into the Forum where once stood a statue of their commander. In their wake, the Reman Despot Nikephorus III Monomachus followed.
Immediately upon arrival in the city, he ordered a grand party, the likes of wich even Remas had not seen. A bit inebrieted, the Despot was in a very forgiving mood, and wanted to make peace with everybody and anybody.
Quite how such a small force was able to take the city is unclear, but it is rumoured they simply marched through the opened gates at night, catching the defenders by total surprise.

The betrayal of Mordini

While their ambassador, Aldobrando Aldobrandesco, was negotiating with general Mordini, seeking and getting his support to attack Luccini –Mordini even funded the construction of siege equipment- several generals under the leadership of Mighted Sturmbrow attacked Mordini city, supported by a large contingent of Priests of Morr and Theurgists. The garrisson of Mordini defended the town as they had done for the past 100 years, but the small force was not enough to stop the assault. Kera Foehunter, one of the first generals on the walls, put a torch to a pitch dry roof, setting it ablaze. The resulting fire soon spread to adjacent houses, destroying large parts of the already worn out town.

A pirates’ (un)life for me…

Ennio Mordini, meanwhile, had taken the full might of his Nightmare Legion to the Pirates’ Current. Embarked on seaweed and shellfish encrusted triremes, he arrived in the current just in time to break the stalemate between Tyrian generals and the Golden Company defense force. When the fighting was over and Mordini turned his ships, he saw his beloved town burn… The rage he displayed was unparallelled, and he was overheard uttering curses over all those that attacked him. Mordini turned his ships once more, for he knows when he’s outnumbered so much he does not stand a chance. With Mordini firmly in the hands of the Golden Company, Ennio seems doomed to wander the lands and seas of Tilea, a true mercenary general once more.

Water warfare.

Ranting and raving about the dreaded fishmen plotting in the sea the Doge of Tobaro personally lead a floatilla of warships into the Gulf of Tobaro. Masses of cannonballs were pointlessly fired into open areas of sea in order to kill these make believe monsters yet he returned to cheering crowds. Despite his quite obvious insanity known by all at court the chancellor and leading nobles had declared that the warships had combated mercenary forces threatening Tobaro. Yet the only mercenary army to have come near Tobaro was long since gone leaving no forces to combat.

The Leopard still stands! Still!

The city of Luccini survived yet again. Massive siege engines were constructed for the assault ramming deep into the bulwark. Whilst thousands of mercenary soldiers stormed the walls. But the Leopard had not been idle. Gathering allies local banners were apparently raised in Luccini's defence, a powerful force of the downtrodden, sick of the perpetual war that afflicted Tilea. The cities brave defenders have become something of folk heros for their services against the invading mercenaries. The massive fire based wall reappeared over the citys walls for a few days giving the defenders some much needed rest against the monsterous machines. Whether or not the city will hold indefinately or not is likely to be a great debate. In fact, had half the besiegers not inexplicably turned around to attack Mordini, it would already have fallen.

The Waaagh in the Badlands

After changing hands from one greenskin horde to another, its seems now that the Tyrian flavour of Orcs gets the upper hand in the Badlands. To be continued, undoubtedly.

Pavona endures.

Through the use of various traps and ambushes, combined with a deadly spider infestation, Pavona was able to hold its attackers off. Due to the nature of the traps, it is generally assumed goblins were responsible for them.

A sparkling end

Viscount Armand de la Croix, the ambassador for his faction, must have angered someone deeply during negotiations, for he received a final present : A golden box, encrusted with gems. The look of horror on the face of this brave warrior when he opened it, and the accompanying wail of terror is grafted onto the memories of all who witnessed the events.
In a burst of blinding light, the Viscount was reduced to smoking embers, his remains scattered in the wind. Despite heavy damage, the note inside it was partially reconstructed, showing a squid like purple symbol. The Tyrian Guild is largely viewed as responsible for de la Croix's demise.

A knife from behind.

As Kera Foehunter stormed the walls of Mordini, bravely fighting her way through rank upon rank of skeletal defender, she continuously scanned her surroundings for signs of the dread lord. "Ennio Mordini, you treacherous dog, where are you ? It's payback time for Luccini !" But the skeletal general did not respond or show his face. Instead, a fighter from the Golden Company suddenly shouted her name "Kera Foehunter !" She turned to see where the sound came from, but before she understood what was going on, the man took a mighty swing at her with the arabian blade he carried. "In the name of the Hashasheen" he bellowed as his blade connected with Kera's neck and cut deep.
She died when it reached her heart, the battlements of Mordinis' donjon the last thing she saw. The murderer rejoined the fray, dissappearing into the press of bodies before anyone realised what just happened.

Rebuilding the damned.

Organzo continues to press for settlers in order to repair the damage called by the massacre of Mordini. Alesso Alfonti has offered numerous incentives to those willing to risk their lives and move closer to the frontier. With the devistating warfare in the middle of Tilea the prospect of a new life under one of the powerful invaders is not an unwelcome idea.

Week IX—Skirmishes in Sartosa and Ossomunte.
"Skirmish”

Background.
Amid the fear and distrust surrounding the rumors of the Crimashin Assassins Da Gutrippas maneuvered the Law Elfs into a scrap in Ossomunte. Law purely hates fighting in the Outlaw Town. Hur!

Nameless pout. “Puppies!” he say.
Grootka smack him. “Puppies ovva dere,” say Grootka. He gestured vaguely toward the east. “Step lively ye git!”
Several arrows slam into the surrounding masonry. From the north comes the sound of Big Face’s Thunder Stick. Ka-Boom! Big Face is real serious about his Thunder Stick. Always saying “time meez re-load!” “Betcha Ize hit dat rat!” Things like that. Go through powder like a Man o’ War Big Face do. Grootka glance to the north, looks like Face finally got the range right. Clouds of arrows seek Big Face’s perch, but no orcish screams or oaths so far. Yard Arm over there with Big Face and them other Arra Boyz.
Nameless say, “Nameless see no puppy, meez!”
Grootka sigh. “Puppy ovva dere past dem elf,” Grootka say. “Gotta get pass elf ta da puppy place.”
Ka-Boom!
Grootka risk a look around the corner. One or two fewer elf. Arrows slam into the wall near his head though. Grootka pull back. “Nameless!” he call. “Go play inna path.”
Nameless say, “rainin, no play inna rain. Boss sez.”
Grootka say, “bain’t rainin! Sides, who Boss?”
“Iz too! Rainin pointy fings!” Nameless say, “Grootka Boss!”
Grootka shout, “Zoggin right, Grootka Boss! Zoggin get yer scaly stern inna path!”
Grootka say, “Goodie ken ye makes em stop?”
Goodie say, “troll or elf?”

Post battle:
Nameless and Goodie draw elven arrows as the orcs rush across the street. Once the orc crew recombined the Law Elf gave it up. Orcs win!
The Law loses the new Shadow Elf and another veteran archer. Both are killed not captured, but Fibber loots the fallen archer. A few of the elf heroes have minor scratches but all survive and make good money again. Caught in an unfriendly market, the Law can only recruit a replacement for the dead archer because their tastes are too refined for poor criminal Ossomunte.
The Law have lost no heroes but the last 3 games have each claimed a hired sword. Hur!

Goodie recovers from her wounds, but Slo Bil Too took an elven sword in a necessary place. After the fight Fibber cain’t find the body to loot it. Zoggin nasty elfs! Aside from the dead archer’s long bow and sword, the orcs find all kinds of loot and quite a bit of grog. Also liberate a barrel of Bugman’s. Showed those Elfs! Hur!

“The Press Gang”
The Gutrippas raid the Blow Hole in Sartosa-town
Gloating and lies by Von Kurst, photos and laments by Playtable.

Background.
The war has created an urgent need for sailors. Da Gutrippas draw recruitment duty for the Tyrian fleet. What better place to recruit but among the former subjects of the Guild?

Grootka.
Grootka gather the crew on the deck of the Smasher.
Grootka says, “avast swabs! Weez gonna hit da Blow Hole come moonrise dis night. Any gitz on da path ain’t ussun, ye bonk em on da noggin and truss em up. No re-mits or ex-emps, ye hear! Big Face, ye an Yard Arm an yer ladz take da Gummint Road. No killin less itz elfs! Or stunties, or gitz wot look like elf. An ye kin rub out any o’ Snotfangs lot ye meet. Mork, Ize hate dem gitz.”
“Eadtaker, Yo’and, Nameless take da center. Juss folla meez. Collic Jak, Jibber an Goodie, yer wit ussun. Keep back o’ Nameless. Git peckish, ‘e do.”
“Doc, ye takes da gang an sweep da alley behind da Lenge's Dry Goods dere. Da Gang,” Grootka glowered down at the three new gitz, “ye mind Wyrd Doc, ye ken?”
The new gitz, who bore lumps and bruises themselves, bowed and tugged at their ears. They were grinning from ear to ear at the possibility of bringing others to their current state.
In a few moments the crew moves into the familiar neighborhood. Three Sistas on the starboard and Lenge’s to larboard. Grootka walk up to a humie standing by the Three Sistas back door. Grootka say, “So me lad, likes ye ships?”
Humie say, “waaa? Cor, ye an orc! ORCS! HELP!”
Grootka thump him one or two and give him Da Doubloon. Humie join Da Fleet. Sorted.

Caption: Fell Blades and a Corsair mug an angry drunk behind the Port Authority.
</A>

</A>
Caption: Da Good, Da Bad and a couple of ugly friends. Big Face and Yard Arm walk da walk.
Plans gang aglee.
</A>

</A>
Caption: The Beastmaster stumbles in the dark.
</A>

Caption: Nameless wanders about the street near the Blow Hole. As they move through the shadowed palm grove, ‘Eadtaker and Yo’and trip and fall. (It will get worse before it gets better.)
</A>

The Elfs strike again.
Caption: The skippy Bad Elfs reach the Blow Hole first. The stupid spear elf argues with a patron.
</A>

Caption: A Corsair mugs a drunken night watchman in the UPS building.
</A>

Confrontation on Gummint Road.
Yard Arm fires a warning shot. Oops, hit a couple of elfs. Stupid spear elf is knocked down. Bad Elf Highborn skips and hops.
Caption: Bad Elfs and the orcs face off inside and outside the Blow Hole. Nameless smell them puppies!
</A>

Missed in the photo journal is the battle going upstairs in the Blow Hole.
Orcs hold the line since the initiative 6 elves fail more than one test to climb up.
This combined with the stuborn drunk out front changed the elfls whole battle plan for the worse.
</A>

The Trap is set.
Caption: Grootka, Yo’and and ‘Eadtaker move into position in the alley behind the Blow Hole. Bad Elf cain’t see them. Hur! Nameless gurgle with glee, “Puppies!”

The Puppies take the bait!
Bad puppies! Ded Eye Bil (the archer who’s not there anymore) becomes the first orc to fall. Rigga Top roll on the ground, try to get that beast off him.
</A>

Oops!
The trap is not sprung. Nameless so excited about puppies he trip over his own feet. As he falls he grabs onto Yo’and. Yo’and fall over, too. Grootka so mad he forget about the back steps. (Steps got no safety strip, Grootka sue!) He trips but doesn’t enjoy the fall. To top it off ‘Eadtaker decides them puppies look mean. Maybe ‘Eadtaker stand real still puppies won’t see him. Not chew him up like Ded Eye and Rigga.
</A>

Doh!
Moments later a fresh wave of Bad Elfs attack the orcs. (Rigga got tired of being bit, cut that puppy till it stop.) Rigga ask for a little help with the crowd of elf. Big Face and Yard Arm get tangled up in their haste to krump elfs. Down they go. ‘Eadtaker sees no puppies, tries to charge and sprawls on his face. Only Rigga was standing. (Till the elfs got him…)
</A>

(Playtable is laughing so hard he cannot focus his camera.)

Then most of the orcs stand back up and things go south for the Elfs.
</A>

Post battle.
The Elfs try to tough it out but the longer they stay the worse the casualty count. Mostly everyone get better. The Bad Elfs suffer some wounds and lose one Corsair captured.

The Gutrippas press the Corsair. Grootka scare him real good keep the git in line. Yard Arm lose an eye to that trashy doxy’s flaming sword. The bounty from the pressed swabs and a hefty exploration swell the orc crew with new greenskin recruits as well.
