World Cup Soccer

So, this is really the only message board I visit regularly that has any kind of international flair. I was just wondering how many of you Euros were paying attention to the soccer world cup. I guess you all probably call it Association Football. I've never watched soccer on TV before, but I may catch the tail end of the US v. Ghana match (which starts soon).

So, how many of you care about the world cup? Just curious is all.

PS - I will admit to having watched on women's soccer game on TV back in 1994 when the US women beat China to win the women's soccer world cup. Brandy Chastain took her shirt off. It was awesome (for a 10 year old).

We call it football

I'd think most people will have atleast a passing interest if their country has qualified.


I'm always amazed how woman's football never takes off it's got fit women and football, sometimes two rights make a wrong.

I've watched every England game but I only really watch the Major games or the occasional cup tie

I'm not too much into football but the world cup (and european) is always an event in germany. I'm gonna go to public viewing tomorrow. England vs Germany is a classic. It's absurd to see how the British newspapers are going all crazy over it. I really look forward to it.

Still believe Argentina is going to take it, I actually put money on this!

Well, I caught the overtime of USA v. Ghana after a friend texted me regarding the game. I should have broken out my paints and painted minis for the half hour. I'm afraid this sport is just lost on this American.

We've got a tough one coming up tomorrow... but all in all, I enjoy the world and european cups casually... it's just good at public viewings in the parks or bars...

Just came home after a couple of months in south america... and there's just no escaping it there.. the countries collectively go crazy, even if they're not in the cup! great vibes all around!

We're not even in the cup but (almost) everyone here is supporting for one of our neighboring countries (except the netherlands! nobody would ever support Holland!!)

I'm not into voetbal (football/Soccer) but it's very difficult here to listen to Radio or Tv and not notice the world cup! Even in the supermarkets you get free World Cup Goodies. I just got back from France and it's the same there, propably all over europe... I just don't get what the fuzz is about: Some guys running after a ball, desperatly trying to catch up with it and when they do they kick him away... crazy... ... though I have to admit I often enjoy a game of street soccer with my friends, playing the game on a friendly base is just to much fun

I watched some World Cup, and it was alright. Maybe I am spoiled due to Basketball's high scoring (with smaller nets) or the hard hitting of American Football and Hocky all with well defined time clock. I guess it's like baseball fun to play but not as entertaining to watch.

Also the USA lost (as did England) so now I am rooting for Deutschland!

Ha ha. Awesome. I know the Dutch are soccer crazy - just like Germans. The game today will also be a tough challenge.
