Hello everyone,

A friend and i have decided to get into Mordheim, and as i have never played before i dont know where to begin! i am familiar with warhammer and 40k but dont know enough about morheim to pick it up. obviously i want to get a rule book but i have heard there are different versions and alot of play groups ignore the rulebooks and play by fan made rules anyway. i found a PDF rulebook on Coreheim but dont know if that is any good. I dont have a warband yet but do have some empire militia figures from my WH days, and i would like to know if these are ok to use?

any feedback on getting started would be greatly appreciated Complete n00b Icon_cool

Yes, as Nala said, welcome!

I say get your hands on the living rulebook, then tweak using your own judgement as you go. Main tweaks are often cnoncerning "Dual Wielding", weapon tweaks, henchman groups and making skills or rules suck less Smile

You can definately use you old WH figs! In fact, the Empire MIlitia set were the basic Mordheim sprue you got back in the days when you could buy the box! You can build any and all sorts of henchmen from that sprue alone (at least for human mercenary warbands). Then you can convert or get your hands on some more spectacular models for your heroes.

Also, be sure to download all the issues of Town Cryer and the rulebook.

A lot can be found here:

http://tabletopgeeks.com/downloads/

(i took the liberty of posting a link, Svenn Smile )

Get the rulebook and other goodies here:

http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/content/article.jsp?catId=cat1290025&categoryId=1100014&section=&aId=5300009

(its GW official site)

Anyway, in any pother case, you can just browse the forums and see what we discuss about the game here. A lot of people use their own house rules, best is to search for them (they pop up frequently, such as topics about slings, spears or dual wielding... and watch out for getting knee deep into discussions about powergaming Complete n00b Icon_lol )

Anything else, done hesitate to ask!

Welocme to the forum Keelhaul (great name by the way!!)

I think the best advice I can give is to play Mordheim straight out of the book to begin with, then change things only after discussing with you regular group and testing new things for a bit. That way the new bits are added a little at a time and everyone has input and will be able to keep up with the changes. Each player will have their own taste in gaming and it's best to try to keep most people happy or they won't want to join in!

Well, a few buildings would be preferable. Though you could just clutter up boxes or other debris to make narrow streets. Some scenarios, like street fight, is basically fought in an alley, so you can take pretty much any old household boxes or clutter to make a small alleyway with forked roads.
