I have heard it varies depending on the heat, but at about room temperature how long should it take to dry?

it depends from multiple factors...
-room temperature...
-green stuff dimensions(thickness, wideness) and volume...i let it rest for a night...8 hours...before working again on it...
-your preferences about working on it when it's still soft or not...(for some jobs I prefere first choice, for others the second one)

The question is:
What do you have to do?

More so general curiosity. Tried the stuff for the first time yesterday and put a hood on one of my Bretonnians. Think I may extend it into a cloak though.

I think it's generally said to be completly dry after about 24 hours. But I'd say that's mostly for painting. The stuff is usualy hard enough to let you keep sculpting after 8-10 hours (sometimes 5 hours if it's realy, realy hot like 30+ degrees celcius.

I wonder if you can make it dry even quicker if you put it in the oven....

Well...if you have to make a cloak...it's better make a thin sheet with GS and let it rest for a night...then you can cut it in the right shape and glue it to the model...

Don't use a oven...if you can't wait too much it's better put your gs under a lamp!

A little extra advice when working with GS, use water. On your fingers. It will release better and help you to smoothe it out nicely.

Just do not eat it!

Not that much of a health issue, but it will most likely f... your stomach up.

I have found that humidity is more of as issue for me. I live in Florida so it is always warm. If it is really humid outside then I wait a day on the green stuff to fully dry. If it is not humid then 5 to 8 hours is plenty of time.

I can usually come back to a project a few hours later and find it firm enough that I won't leave finger prints if I'm light. That's typically enough for me to continue sculpting the next portion without ruining my previous work.

Personally, I'd leave it for 24 hours just to be safe. If you are really in a hurry then maybe do as others have said and leave it for several hours at minimum.
