Project: Space Crusade Empty
PostSubject: Project: Space Crusade   Project: Space Crusade Icon_minitimeFri 19 Feb 2010 - 7:01

After seeing the relaunch of Space Hulk I decided I'd like to buy a copy of Space Crusade [played it alot as a young fella, preferred over Space Hulk]

But due to living at the end of the world or at least the first country to see the morning sun. Postage cost killed that idea very quickly [on average it can cost me anything from $30USD to $70USD depending on the weight of the package]

So I started buying up small lots of stuff and slowly building up the troops. but I don't like the old space marine, orcs, & gretchins minis.

so rather then getting them I have bought AoBR orcs, marines, the old gretchins from the WH40k box set [not sure which version]

I did manage to get two of the orginal space crusade Dreadnoughts, plus an AoBR space marine dreadnought [converting it into a chaos dreadnought].

wasn't sure what I wanted for the chaos guys but found I had some spare chaos marine helmets and AoBR marines add them together and you got chaos marines.

I have made up my own homemade tiles using stuff I've downloaded off the net.

I should have it finished in the next 6 months.

But was wondering if anyone has made any special rules for this game? and is it possible to use Necromunda rules instead of the Space crusade rules. I guess I am looking for the ability to add flavour and layers to the game. Also make weapon choices more important. the only other way would be to use WH40k rules but fight in the rooms and corridors. [I have 4th edition rules/codex's for all of the races.]

I'll post some pics soon of my conversions and all the figs I have to paint up. this is not going to be a quick project.

Any ideas or rules/back story let me know would appreciate it.

Cheers

You could try some of these rule sets, although I've never used them:

I also wrote some Skirmish rules for 40k yeeeeaaaarrs ago, but they are not meant for competitive gaming!

I had a good look at the Death Squads looks good.... mostly Imperial players as the Space marines scouts is still not out yet [which would be great as I have three squads on order]

the NiS doesn't look like it has been finished alot of "old" posts on the forum board....

I'll try Death Squad once they bring out more races I want the Necrons.....

Hummmmmm...... Necrons in Death Squads? I think they would be too OP however you do have to have a OP squad in a small game like Mordheim or Death Dquads. Your going to have to talk to Mordhiemer an Da Bank about that. You'll have to put that in the Death Squasd game fourm's suggestion box

Have a good one

Right now we are working on Chaos Cultists... they are lead by a Chaos Space Marine. We are experimenting with balancing the 'Space Marine' (nobody has been able to do it yet in other skirmishes with much success)... so far so good! Once we finish this round of testing, we will work on the Space Marine Scouts and later on the Space Marine Chapter Squad.

In the future we are planing to add Tyranids (my babies!) and Necrons (my 1st Army!)... all due time. Also we plan to add 'tiles' for special Scenarios (fighting in caves, boarding ships, etc) as noted on the Fighting in Close section. I suggest you visit the forum (www.DeathSquadsGame.com) and get the rules... so far they are VERY solid. Soon you would be able to play (I think... from memory) one of 17 Squads, each of them offering something different. We are tackling the harder Squads last... Smile

Cool! Very Happy Thanks for the kind comments. But Death Squads is not mine... is OURS! Yes... you included!

If you have ANY feedback (good or bad), please let us know. Our objective is to have a game with ZERO FAQs, that is fair and fun for everyone. Mordheim, Necromunda and Gorkamorka have their own place (in history and the gaming tables), but we want this to be a great game for everyone. While we 'retain control', everyone can suggest and work with us in improving it.

Several issues on Mordheim (for example) we managed to address with 2 or 3 short sentences (simple rules) that define and guide any kind of related event. For example... who goes 1st in Close Combat. Mordheim has 2 pages of FAQs... depending on weapons, who is attacking, who is defending, skills, items, etc. We managed to reduce every situation to 3 steps, using the true Initiative attribute. It was not easy... now that is done, it seems simple! It all came about because someone asked.

So read the rules... tell us what you think. We are open to new ideas (although we can't work on all of them right away!) Very Happy

I've already joined the Death Squad forum and I have also downloaded the rules.
I just don't have any imperial troops. Only minis I have are Space marine scouts, Space Marine tactical squads, a small Eldar guardian squad, a small Necron force, and some dreadnought [all three are chaos]....

Not sure if I want to go out and buy alot of Imperial troops to play the game...... Will have a to talk to my brother inlaw and see if he would like to play Death Squad and see if he'd get into it as well.

Cheers

Well due to spending some time on the Death Squad forum board I am going to make up a Adeptus Arbites squad and help create some working rules for them.

I might get a imperial box set and make up a couple of squads for my brother inlaw and me to use [One squad of Imperialists and a renegade squad.]

All ready listed the stuff I don't need on to a local auction site will use the $$ to buy minis to use in Death Squad. Will keep my Eldar Squad and use them to also mke an Eldar squad for the DeathSquad rules.

Will use the scouts, plus some other bits to make my Adeptus arbitus squad....

what figs would be good to use as Dogs?

or cyber dogs?

Cheers

GreyWolf...welcome to the Dark Side...oops I mean Death Squads.

I would use regular dogs as cyber dogs for now. It is not a big deal.

As Mordheimer noted we all want Nids and Necrons but it will be a little bit a we have four plus squads now in progress and Space Marine Scouts will be a challenge but it can be done.

As noted by others...you can get a box of IG for$35 for trade for them and now you have a squad.

Just so you know the "basics" of the game started from a zombie game I was working on and then Mordheimer and I teamed up to play "Space Hulk" but I did not want to play with Terminators. I don't like them and I wanted to use IG. You know the "Aliens" or "Starship Troopers" type feel and then over 1.5 years later we have them from many many people.

Thx Da Bank...

I am really looking forward to playing a game. I've found some imperial guard sprues on line waiting to see if I can win them....

started digesting the rules last night. certainly helps that I've played games like WH40k, BloodBowl, Necromunda, etc as I can see elements and feel from some of those games in Death Squad. For years I've been hunting for a game just like Death Squad glad I finally found it.....

you all have done a great job....

Another one bites the dust joins the team! cheers

While aspects of Death Squads are clearly still under development, the core rules are pretty well down and a lot of what needs to be done is filling out the squad count. With Chaos Cultists on the table, Marines won't be too far behind, and then various others will follow. Hopefully, by the completion of the game, it'll be a fairly comprehensive 40k-universe skirmish game, and will fit your bill perfectly!

P.s. Space Crusade is awesome! I got lucky and bought a copy just a couple months ago, and it's a lot of fun. Quite simple though, compared to GW games - it really is a board game, not so much a skirmish battle game.

I've just finished converting up an Imperial Renegade squad and will be making an Imperial squad and maybe even and Ork mob as well. Just depends on the amount of figs I got in my bitz box and what my insane mind can make from them....
