Albion Barbarians' Special Skills Empty
PostSubject: Albion Barbarians' Special Skills   Albion Barbarians' Special Skills Icon_minitimeTue 29 Dec 2009 - 17:42

Im just about to start playing/ testing the albion barbarian warband, but:

There are a few problems with my war bands special skils, they are over
balanced, maybe over powered and who knows what some of them mean! here
is sum suggestions to changes:
Do let me know what you think?

Current:
Barbarians are never allowed to use Blackpowder weapons, not even when taking a skill that would otherwise allow them to do so. Their technical standard is too low that one of them could learn how to use such a thing. Besides those skills, each Barbarian can choose from the special Barbarian Skill list.

Experienced Fighter: This Barbarian has proven himself a master when it comes to fight back dangers from the cave. A Barbarian with this skill will always strike first, no matter who charged.
Attack Howl: Barbarians always use war howls when fighting each other. This Barbarian is a real master, capable of imitating the howls of wild beasts. If a warrior with this skill charges, he receives a bonus of +2 instead of the normal +1 for charging. (WHAT DA?!?!)
MasterShot: Being an experienced hunter, a Barbarian with this skill stands head and shoulders above his comrades. He will shoot where others, less experienced, would not. When using any bow, a Barbarian with this skill may extend the range of his weapon by additional 6".
Savage Fury: This Barbarian has proven himself really fearless and dares attacking nearly everything and everyone. When charging, he will receive +1A in the first round of combat and is immune to Fear.
Concealment: Barbarians are very silent by moving through the Albion landscape, but this one is a real master. To detect him when hidden, any opponent must
halve their range at which to spot him. In addition, a warrior with this skill may shoot when hidden. If he does, throw a D6; on a 5+, the warrior remains hidden.

Suggested:

Experienced Fighter: This Barbarian has proven himself a master when it comes to fight back dangers from the cave. A Barbarian with this skill will gain the strike first rule.

There is some things about these special skills that may have to be considered. First off, almost all of the rules represented in these skills are available through the normal skill list. Remember: "Less is more". That means, one should make whatever special skills available be just that, SPECIAL skills. There is nothing wrong with the fluff aspect, but as some of these skills just seem as small enhancements to the normal skills, I think we can tweak them a bit.

Savage Fury is good, but I wonder what the bonuses you mention is? To my knowledge, the only bonuses when charging is that you strike first (correct me if im wrong, as I know I have missed stuff before). IMO, the Savage Fury could be like this instead:

Savage Fury - The warrior throws himself at his enemies in furious rage, gaining a momentum as his enemies are crushed before him. On the turn in which he charges, the warrior doubles his Attacks. (If he get +1 S that would mean it is exactly the same as that strength skill, cant remember the name).
This makes the warrior fight as if affected by Frenzy in the first turn of combat! Also, if the warrior becomes the subject, or already is, of frenzy, I would suggest the warrior get x4 attacks, as he would get double attacks from both rules! (EXTREME!)

As a barbarian, I gather the warriors are great hunters. How about:

Hunting Mastery - The warrior is an adept at hunting and killing animals. The warrior get +1 to hit and +1 on all injury rolls against animals.

Those are just suggestions, though. Are special skills even needed?

Experienced Fighter: This Barbarian has proven himself a master when it comes to fight back dangers from the cave. A Barbarian with this skill will gain the strike first rule.
Attack Howl: Barbarians always use war howls when fighting each other. This Barbarian is a real master, capable of imitating the howls of wild beasts. A Barbarian with this skill causes fear.
Savage Fyur: This Barbarian has proven himself really fearless and dares attacking nearly everything and everyone. A Barbarian with this skill Causes Frenzy.
