| Anyone have any feedback on this item? My friend thinks using them with bows seems dumb, and I tend to agree. I also think they shouldn't be useable with slings. I think they make sense on crossbows and black powder weapons, though. I almost don't want to nerf them though because I'm gonna be using a possibly bow-heavy army for the first time ever very soon. | |

| Well, for what it's worth, you can buy scopes for modern bows so I don't think that it's beyond the realm of possibility that someone would or could attach a telescope to one | |

| I think its more using the scope to spot distant targets, than shooting at them ... not attaching some Solid Snake style sniper scope (wow iteration!) bow together. | |

| What Mort said. Although (just curious) how would you reload a period crossbow with a giant sight (we're talking pre picatinny)? or use them with bows as they aren't ranged to the extent that it would be useful. (usable distances would involve lobbing anyway.) and then there's the optics. Then again a 18th-isch century scope on a flintlock would look really really cool. | |

| How about the difference between the price of a telescope and a spyglass (pirates only). I think for what they do the spyglass should cost way more. Why different rules for such similar pieces of equipment? | |

I always took it that they where put together by different authors ... I get the impression alot of stuff released back in the days of early Mordheim lacked alot of collaboration and such led to some confusing elements (Whats a 'Normal Animal', why is a telescope and spyglass different? etc).

| For balance purposes you look at what they do, and then asign a cost. For "Realism" you look at what that would really cost and charge that That is an arguement for the ages, "Realsim" vs "Balance" | |

| Like the torch as a weapon discussion that has been floating around on occasion. REALISM: You will catch fire easily and if you do, you are pretty much F;ed in A, if you dont "Duck and cover" (KO), in which cases, you are more often than not: F;ed in the a. Also, the torch is cheap and everyone knows what to do with it. Point at dark to make it less dark, stick flaming stick up in the enemys nostrils for insta-kill.
BALANCE: To not make every single player equip their warriors with torches, the price goes up (yeah, 20 gold crowns for a piece of wood. I can get better prices at a brothel, har har har).
CONCLUSION: Use your own judgement, and most of all: fluff!!! (A Vampire DONT use bows, and they certainly wouldnt come after you with a Torch... And comparing todays extremly engineered bows with scopes on to the medieval ones doesnt cut it for me. IMO, scopes are a no no for all but Rifles, which I can see myself use them with, actually) |

| I'm not sure torches are that good as weapons in real life Opheliate! You don't see many "Man killed with burning stick!" headlines...
Telescope vs. Spyglass is just down to the fact the rules were written by two different people without any cross-checking.
I've always imagined the telescope on it's own stand of some sort, rather than attached to the weapon!

| I agree about the scopes on bows thing. I'm not a historian, but I do imagine not seeing any kind of scoped bow until the 20th century seems the right way to go about it. | |

I've always imagined the telescope on it's own stand of some sort, rather than attached to the weapon! Cuz today we have flame throwers and machine guns. Also, I dont say the ppl in the medieval ages went about hitting eachother with torches, but we dont hit each other with claymoors today either, but that doesnt make them less deadly |

| Hmmm. Still, I don't think a torch will "Insta-kill" anyone unless they are made of paper! There are plenty of knifings these days: old fashioned weapons still get used. (Sorry this is so off-topic. There is another thread for torch-related discussions!! ) | |

| There is a difference between being burned and catching on fire. It is really hard to catch on Fire. Usually when someone gets a bad burn they are not the ones on fire, they are near or touching something that is actually on fire. When someone catches on fire they are covered in something, like Gasoline, or Lighter Fluid. That gets their skin to a temp that it actually catcher flame. I would say that it would work like a blunt weapon with a different crit chart, Something like: 1-2 No Armor, 3-4 Burned! causes 2 wounds, 5-6 on Fire No Armor, and +2 to Wound Roll | |
