hi guys,

as some of you know : i'm a sucker for colours
so i need your help (just hope this is the correct place to place the topic)

i'm painting these Selsym Kestrel guys from Rackham (see below) and I'm doubting in which colours to paint the cloth around their belly and their armour plates+face mask
I definately did not want their plates and face mask in any metallic colour, so I tried with one guy using hideous blue and adding white (maybe it needs a wash ?)
Of the 3 guys, 2 have two flowing pieces of the belly-cloth. I don't think I want to do it brown like the card that came with the mini's.
I was thinking something regal/royal like blue or purple, but am having doubts.

Any ideas, suggestions, etc. would be more than welcome !

the card :

what I did so far :

For the facemasks I would use some Reaper paints that i fell in love with. First start out with a good black wash of it. On the high points use a paint called Nightmare black, it has an eerie blueish tint to it, then add another highlight of NB with alittle of shadow grey. Should make it pop!

For the plate portion I like the white, use alittle wash in the recesses, the raised outside portion I would keep a brighter white and with the design in the Middle, like you said, a purple color, start with dark and lighten it up as you go. Three good coats of lighter purple should help it stand out some.

thanks for the reply Drugart !

I was thinking of painting the facemasks the same colour as the armour plates (given the black colar) like it is on the card (picture came out a bit small, but if you click on it, you'll get a bigger version)

would you give a black wash on a black undercoat ??? what's the use ?

I'm gonna think about the purple ... don't know why, but i'm still having doubts

anyone else have suggestions ?

After bundling up for awhile [good advice, Bo], I started picturing the shoulder pieces in a yellow-orange with reddish brown shadowing; the face scarf & waist sash: dark blue; trousers: dark blue with thin yellow-orange stripes. Looked GREAT in my mind's eye, but that could be cold induced hallucinations .

pascal the rascal... you know you ARE crazy! Those are GREAT models man! Don't sell yourself short dude! The glowing effect is good. You want more? I would suggest, drybrush scorpion green... prepare your brush for drybrush and when you think it is ready, then you are sure you STILL have too much paint! Other than that... if you don't want the models, I TAKE 'EM!!!

GREAT PAINT JOB!

thanks mate !
I do tend to move away from drybrushing for none metal colours.
I was aiming for that glowy eerie green effect on the eyes and armour plates.
Drybrushing the eyes might prove a little bit difficult ...
And since I saw the dvd with Jeremy Teboul, I tend to water my colours down even more than I used to, and try to get graduate effects that way.
My efforts on brown and red are not too bad, but that glowing green just doesn't seem to work.
And I really need it for some mini's for my son's game Hybrid by Rackham ; you know, fluorescent dripping pipelines and the likes ...
Think I'm gonna try Deafnala's suggestion next ; highlight mid green with yellow, do a green wash, maybe re-highlight with yellow, maybe I'll even go to a near white and do some more washes
