Wow, idea just popped into my head... Harry Potter setting? My GF is sick and watches it as I write, and I just cant help starting to think about them as miniatures, with spells instead of weapons, magic brooms and maybe even a Quidditch Scenario for all Blood Bowl enthusiasts!!!

I am probably to old, but still, fascinating!

No no no no no! Not in Mordheim! Using the rules for Mordheim, but in a Harry Potter setting, just like Lustria, Empire in Flames or Relics of the Crusade settings. By gawd, Harry Potter in Mordheim!? No no no. BUT, maybe as a comic parody of the same.

Dramatis Personae

Larry Butter (Imperial wizard in training)
This young wizard is a well spoken lad, with a famously nerdy haircut. He has decided to go to Mordheim to fight another wizard, the infamous (or not famous at all) Lord Wally DeMord (real name Tit Diggler) who tried to kill the young Butter when he was a baby. Larry Butter is known to carry a grudge, and will go to any length to get to his nemesis.

M - 4
Ws - 3
Bs - 3
S - 3
T - 3
W - 3
I - 3
A - 3
Ld - 8

Special Rules:

Naive Peacekeeper - Larry Butter cannot take anyone OOA, as he thinks killing is wrong, and only uses stunning spells...

Cool Scar - Larry has a scar depicting Sigmars kidney in his forehead. People in the empire seem to think he is chosen in some way, but mostly people just tire of his arrogance, "He thinks he's so special!". Everyone "Hates" Larry Butter.

Equipment:
"Magic Wand" - When Larry strips his leisure suit, his magic wand will make anyone panic.

20 gc initial fee
10 gc upkeep???

I like it, but you may add...

Special Rule

STUBBORN UBERCOMFIDENCE:
Larry is so convinced that his quest is the one and only, that he will ignore any order or advice.
Larry can't use the gang leader's leadership and must always test on his own leadership.

Seriously, a Harry Potter setting sounds cool, and even better if you can involve your GF.

You may want to check these Copplestone figures:

Hope that helps.

Sure does Smile
I have been outlining all spells from the HP universe now, but to my astoundishment, there are prctically no offensive spells! Most of them do the same thing (stun you, burn you, push you or insta-kill you). Gotta need some balancing.

Anyone got ideas for "warbands"? I was thinking of the following:

Wizard School - Hogwarts, Beauxbatons, Durmstrang (Each with some special rule or the other, just like the mercs)

Death Eaters - Think "Possessed" sorta, with evil mages, necromancers and those scary inferi or whatever they are called.

Aurors - Sorta like the WH Witch hunters, huinting down renegare wizards, with a member of the Wizengamot as a leader.

Beasts - The Centarus, spiders and really any beasts living within the dark forest.

Renegade Mages - Well, pretty much what it says, renegare mages. Not intent on world domination, like the death eaters, but rather things like getting rich and stuff like that.

I think it's actually a pretty cool idea. Obviously not HP in Mordheim, but the idea of an HP skirmish game.

Personally I'm not so sure that Mordheim is really the best engine for it, though. Mordheim is a bit too combat-oriented, and to shift almost completely towards magic would be tough. Spells would have to be fairly easy to cast, otherwise you're looking at a rather slow-moving and probably frustrating game. I would also give everyone really shoddy melee stats (WS, S, A), unless they're non-magicians. This will dissuade wizards from running up and punching each-other in the face, which is very un-Harry Potter, and will encourage spell-slinging duels instead.

Cool idea, though. Are different parties going to have access to different spell lists, whill there be only one spell list? Also, what about artifacts like Gryffindor's Sword, the Invisibility Cloak, etc?

Yes yes, the magical artifacts of HP will also be there, but not from the beginning I wager. And all teams would have acceess to different spelllists. Avada Kedavra should be known only to the Deatheaters, really, as well as the other forbidden curses (yes, im a HP junkie...)

And about switching weapons for magic, I really thought about it, and I think you can "mask" the weapons. The sword, for instance, can be a conjured magic blade that must be "summoned". That way, all teams can "summons" different magic weapons of lower levels at any time, as long as the spell succeeds. That way, you can be more strategic by allways choosing what to arm your wizard with. Of ciourse, a magic sword instread of a wand in hand, will make spellcasting more difficult, but you will at least have an advantage in close combat (+1 dif as long as a weapon is conjured).

I think you could even go as far as multiple spell lists for each warband - maybe even one per type of hero, so the different warbands would have a bit of choice in what kind of magic they use?

Illusions (invisibilty, disguise, fake monsters, etc), movement (flying levitating, apparating), charms (that effect the behaviour of the enemy?), weather (wind, rain, light, darkness), offensive (stunning, sleep, push-backs, pain-causing), defensive (shields, patronus, disarming), healing, transformations (underwater breathing, changing size, animagus), luck/curses, psychological (fear, panic, stupidity, bravery).

I'm sure there are more!

Best WD article ever. still play it regularly and its lots of fun. To make it fantasyhammer theme simply change the wizard models and background (perhaps nicodemus' master found him!)

Great stuff, both of you Smile

I will dig even deeper. WarbosKurgan: Excellent ideas, and i agree, there will have to be some differences between the warbadns and their choices, otherwise, the teams wont differentiate enough.
