Araby Campaign Setting? Empty
PostSubject: Araby Campaign Setting?   Araby Campaign Setting? Icon_minitimeThu 19 Nov 2009 - 10:02

I jhave noticed there are several campaign settings (Khemri, EiF, Sylvania etc) but I would love to get my hands on some rules for games in the bustling cities of Araby.
I am thinking, Alladdin style, with underground crimelords and smugglers (both slaves and exotic goods and drugs). If there aren't any allready made, would anyone be interested in making one???

Concidering miniatures for use in such a setting, the LotR miniatures are perfect (I use marginally converted Corsairs of Umbar as slaves, and harad Warriors as warriors). Any ideas or suggestions???

Very interesting and appealing idea!
An araby-themed city of the damned is very cool indeed. Anyways i don't know if in khemri there were such cities, check this out first.

I would like to see re-created the intense atmosphere of the cursed Lut Gholein

The last Animosity campaign run by Da Warparth was set in Araby - I'll see if I can find a link as they posted loads of resources for Araby themed Mordheim.

There was those Khemri scenerios in some of the Town Cryers ... theres an Araby warband there (Araby being right next to Khemri).

I also thought that such a campaign would not really take place in a "cursed" city (some scenarios, of course could!). I thought more of small skirmishes between underground crimesyndicates, smugglers, guardsmen and mercenaries.
Several different "warband" types comes to mind that would fit this setting:

"Guardsmen" - Keeping the streets clean and warring against any criminals or others threat to peace within the large cities of Araby.

"Street Performers" - Thieves and urchins, living as beggars and street performers, with trickster wizards and scharlatans.

"Crime Syndicates" - Depending on their specialisation (like the Merc warbands in Mordheim), such as Slavers or Drug-trafficking, these gangs rule the underworld of the cities by bribes and "pest removal" jobs.

"Merchant Guilds" - The powerful merchant guilds also have both domestic and foreign interests, and are not astrange to using covert methods or hired muscle to get rid of competition or other threats to their commerce.

"Skaven" - Well, the ratmen should be present here as well, ast hey are all over the world...

"Pirates/Tomb Raiders/Treasurehunters" - Think Simbad the Sailor or Alladdin. Flashy pirates and adventurers who not only roam the seas but also look for old shrines and temples where one can find gold and treasures.

Hired swords could be:
Djinn Sorcerors
Hashashin
Bodyguards
Foreign Mercenaries

Serpent Cult: Even to the far South in the lands of Araby is the taint of chaos, a growing cult springing up amongst its cities for those wishing to sink into the depths of indulgence and depravity.

Chaos cult somewhat Conan inspired (forgot the snake cult in it). Just an idea Smile

Wow that seems like an awesome campaign setting. Maybe I will pitch it to my local group to be the next one we do.

Relics has some fun elements and we still use some of them in our current campaign in Lustria. The forum discussion of the setting is here--

Battle reports and fluff from the campaign our group ran is here--

It is, isn't it! My original idea is a little different though. I rather imagine it taking place within one town, or major city, with adventures both above and beneath ground. Also, political power can be gained and lost, and each "warband" should have different, individual, goals to accomplish. I will be thinking more about this...

There is plenty of useful material in the RotC setting without using its locations or scenario tables (which are Empire in Flames based not Araby based).

Our modified scenario table for one of the locations:

Khalibon
Type: Town
Day: Apply the following rules: Hot, Unwanted Company
Night: Darkness, Unwanted Company

Die roll (2d6) Town of Khalibon scenario list
2 Your choice of scenarios 3 through 11.
3 Assassins!
4 The Eaters of the Dead*
5 Bodyguards
6 Sirrah, you lie!
7 Last Orders
8 Dark Ritual*
9 Knives in the Dark*
10 Protect the Prince**
11 Scourge and Purge*
12 Your choice of scenarios 3 through 11
*The scenario must be played with the Darkness rules.
**The scenario is set in the streets of the town not in the countryside.

Yeah, there's no reason why you couldn't borrow from the Relics of the Crusades setting and set your campaign in one city. Khemri offers a lot of cool equipment that you might want to add in as well.
