So, I recently (as in today) aquired some boyz and look forward to modeling and painting.
I've had a few experiences painting, got a band of Norse Marauders I currently play, but I've always been a greenskin at heart, so I thought it was about time to get a warband of those.

Now to my question. I live with a cat and I got to thinking if the shed fur would be something I should watch out for?

The fur in question. In this picture still attached to Bowie the cat.

I don't think cat hair is a serious problem unless you make a habit of rubbing newly-varnished miniatures against the poor creature! Laughing

Hi mate! As a cat lover, I gotta your cat is awesome (all cats are, I turn into a wittle girle whenever I see one) Got a cat myself, a long haired one too, but I have never had any problems with ther fur sticking to my minis. A bigger problem is that she likes to poke my minis whenever Im not around, pushing them over my hobby-table edge with glee. She has broke aprox 20 plastic minis whom I have had to re-glue...

A pic of Lafva (my cat), showing her decieving cuteness...

Cats can be a bit messy to work with; white mice work better for detailing... What a Face
Actually, having had a few dogs & cats, the shedding/hair thingy hasn't proved too difficult; especially compared to the benefits of companionship. thumbsup

I agree wholeheartedly, I would never give up my cat. Not even for Warhammer Smile.

But glad to hear that he won't pose too much a problem, as long as I can keep his paws off the figures Very Happy

Thanks for the advice and thanks for the welcome. Very Happy

Mice are definitely better for detail work. Cats are better suited to larger jobs (although the cat will resist this vehemently and at length.) I find cats better for distressing scenery and creating casualties. Mice take forever to texture scenery. Cats have an innate talent for it.

Just be sure to keep the cat away when spraying sealers and primers. Not good for you/really not good for pets.

Welcome Ork!

That does happen a lot Kurgan Razz But mostly to people who doesn't own a cat.

So far, my cat has managed to knock a single model off my table. (Orcs are tough though, so all it lost was the base Razz)

The thing I have a problem with is that I leave my brush water out.
When I'm gone the cat gets on my painting table and drinks it.
No problem for the cat, when the water gets bad I change it but...
she leaves hairs on the paper towels I set my models on and yes, it gets all over and in the way.
My recomendation: do not leave the water out when you are away.

I have two cats and a dog, and I never found fur on my miniatures, so I assume you will be fine too. Just don't let the animal walk over your painting station, except for orcs and Space Marines, most miniatures don't like being bashed around Wink

@Eliazar; are you refering to some miniatures familiar to me? some ogres, perhaps :p?

Brooming, Brooming, Brooming...

I have four cats at home (I do raise siamese kitties I love you ).

They are not just animals they are my friends but when times come to painting - its a nightmare !!!!
Fur ! Fur ! Fur ! There is always a little hair that comes to stick in the paint .. Argh !!!

The only thing I found that help me is dry cleaner sprays.. Shoot before, while painting, and after... before the clear coat...

Good luck with you cats !!!

As a cat, everything in the home is the cat's. She is allowing you to use HER plastic models. Wink

Only time you are likely to have a problem in my experience is using a spray primer, or varnish, where you have to leave the minis to dry for a while. Then the really fine insulating fur that just seems to float in the air can sometimes stick to the drying paint, especially a problem in the spring when they are moulting that type of fur.
