How do you make a barrel?

I have only seen one tutorial and it is a bit complicated. Do you have any ways of making some of these or do you know where to but them cheap?

What are they made of?

They're pewter castings. Mega Minis used to be called Hobby Products & were produced in Germany; most of the rereleased line is at the same prices as the were back in the 90s. Cool, huh?!

There is also pardulon.com.
They make some beautiful resin fantasy buildings and a huge range of resin accessories to go with them.


Edit: Ah, it seems Pardulon are taking a break for a few weeks and not taking any new orders at the moment.

I havne't seen anyone mention the accessory mold from www.hirstarts.com

You can cast your own barrels, crates etc. $34 US isn't bad.

The only thing with this mold is that you need a strong plaster for the thinner pieces.

I must admit I'm looking for cheaper ways, even if that means I have to roll up glued paper ...
It's amazing what is available at Hirst's, but I find it rather pricey.

Rusty Rails offers some REALLY nice & reasonably priced barrels, boxes, et all: http://rustyrail.com/BoxesandstuffCastingsOScalePage1.htm . These are 1:48 scale; SO they are slightly larger than 28mm [1:56].

And sure you might be able to find cheaper stuff for a particular project, but the way I looked at it is this.

One mold = $34 = lifetime of casting as many barrels as I want.

if you have legos, and know how to make a simple mold

just make a mold of a lego barrel and cast it in plaster, some times you need to add some putty to hide the lego logo but after that you cant tell
